Found this on mechscape world forums and I thought it might interest a few people. Basically Jagex are planning a third MMO to be released in 2010. This is not mechscape. It was revealed by Geoff Iddison. All the information he said, was that it may include micro-transactions:

Interestingly, he pointed out, "It's not the game, the game is going to come and go." By 2010, Runescape is only guaranteed to be supported for three more years. Coincidentally, Jagex has to renew their domain (runescape.com) by April 2013, exactly when support for Runescape is unknown. Does this mean the end is nigh?

Part of me thinks Jagex has been going a bit over the top. Do we really need two more MMORPGs? I'm not even looking forward to MechScape, so this other one is probably going to go over my head.

I picked RS because it wasn't a futuristic game if they end support then that will be gone.

I personally am not really interested in any more games. Mechscape's too futuristic for my tastes. The 3rd one? uhh....

Whether RS will truly die or not, I believe, depends on the # of players. If by 2013 there are still like millions of people playing rs, Jagex wouldn't be like, "Ok everyone, RS will close down in five months. You all better move on to [whatever the other game's name is]." Then again, you never know what'll happen.

Look on the bright side...this means someday they may take the trade limits and junk off. Dunno if I'll ever play that long but theres always hope.

12k for a game on funorb. 33 games. 33 * 12k = 396k. They spent half a million on Funorb? Can't believe there'll be another MMORPG from Jagex.

I really don't think jagex will drop runescape like trash unless there is a huge popularity and player drop.

Get over it, Jagex is a cruddy company. Runescape just doesnt hold its fun value, especially when the updates are cruddy and Jagex likes to go on Banning sprees. The pvp in this game is horrible, no skill whatsoever. Maybe jagex will crawl out the ditch with there new games.

The only reason i play runescape is to go on Sals clan chat, and of course most of the mods on there are freaking
noobs ands it no wonder they got the silver crown, Jagex likes to hand out mods to power abusers and wannabes.

The only cool mod on sals clan chat is Finisterra rofl.

I suggest Jagex makes a more mature version of runescape so i dont have to worry about little kids and mods reporting
me because they can, not because they want to or feel like it truly offends them.

Runescape might possibly end in 2013, huh? That would be sad, especially for Jagex, seeing as they make so much money from it. Although if these new MMO's they are planning turn out to be a huge success, they may no longer need Runescape. Although, why wouldn't they want more money?

Yea im a little worried about the domain thing in 2013 and since they making 2 new MMO games im scared whats gonna happen to runescape. About the new games i dont want to more just 1 is fine and its a bit good because less people will play runescape and you have a chance to be good in some game.

No surprise...your the fanboy, protecting Runescape likes it your life, Runescape was once a good game, i just think the fact that being banned is so easy, ruins having to pay for it. When i pay 15$ a month for wow, I can say all the crap i want and not even get a warning, and im currently not paying for wow because im saving up for a guitar, runescape is like a backup game for me. If i didnt get muted / blackmarked all the time, id still be a member.

although, i do thank runescape for being my first mmorpg. rs member since 05 : P

You probably got muted/banned for doing somethin stupid, and now have a deep hatred for jagex. It's not their fault a free MMO happens to pull in more younger players, and thus they focus their game towards the larger percent of the player base.

Aside from that, the mention of Runescape only lasting till 2013 isn't certain. They only have support for it up to that point, it's like planning ahead. They can't tell for sure when the game will "die" as there may always be loyal players, so if there are still a profitable amount of people playing by 2013 they'll likely renew any support/domain contracts and such.

However the planning for a game which will include micro transactions kinda bugs me. Games including micro transactions always struck me as greedy, since they almost always guarantee profit. Plus it gives way for those lazy bums that just wanna dumb a few hundred dollars on a game to become 'the best.'

i dont thik they ill stop updating rs completly even after they get the other games out. they have too much too lose. or maybe they expect all of the rs members to go on to the new game so they don't lose on anything.

Although I would hate for Runescape to go away, I'm not too worried. In 5 years, I'll be graduating from college and on my way to law school. Between that, my dance crew, and finding a way to pay for law school, I doubt I'll have ANY time to play this game anymore.

Even so, I don't think that they'll take runescape off completely. I mean seriously - look at RuneScape Classic. It's still up for those that use it. And how many make up THAT fanbase? 10? 20? (lol jk for all u RSC'ers out there)

I think we all should just wait and see. I mean it's 5 YEARS. That's a lot of time to get your character maxed up, get all the quests done, and then be completely bored because you have nothing else to do but make money and buy pointless rares.

Just normal contract stuff no one sell's domains for a lifetime and it would be Jagex's best interest and there wallets to keep RS running.

I think what is being forgotten is the fact that RuneScape is a seriously popular mmorpg. Jagex wouldn't remove the game unless it was causing more negative effects than positive one. Jagex is a company, and within the company there is a RuneScape team, funorb team and probably a few other teams we don't know about. The main thing i'm saying here is though, is that RuneScape will still be there and updates will continue as usual because the same amount of people will be working on it.
