Yah, so my mother's work OKd her getting a laptop, and I think for her it would be best to have a mini laptop (or whatever you call them, ultraportable?).

So I'm not asking for general laptop suggestions, but just ones in the Asus Eee pc market 0of laptops.
So far all I've looked at is the basic $300 Eee PC, the kind they sell at target.

Price isn't a major factor, although preferably as low as possible, around $500 max.

It's "Bob" or "Bob-sama".

Anyways--this would be about the best EeePC with a hard drive.

Typical Atom 1.6GHz, 1GB DDR2, 160GB hard drive, and WinXP Home. It's a 10" model so the keyboard is larger and setup much more like a typical laptop. Overall a decent laptop. Also available is a white&red version that is basically identical to the above but costs a bit more. If that red (well, pink) is more her speed, it's basically up to her. I'd only caution her, out of personal experience, that the white touchpads get noticeably dirty. Mine has changed colors already. That's my only regret with the white EeePCs--they do get dirty. I'm going to try cleaning it with isopropyl alcohol later--and see if that improves it.

Anyways, just realize that the screen is quite small. If she's used to 1024x768 screens on desktops or laptops, she'll be fine. There isn't any other laptops that I'd really suggest in the sub-$500 price range.

My brother just got my mum the eee Pc tongue.gif
Great minds think alike.

I think the eee Pc would be okay as long as your mum doesn't game and stuff, it has a decent speed. I don't think it has a CD drive.

The Eee 1000 was considered the best. As a thought, if it's a gift you might want to get a coloured case. I've always found them sort of 'right' on small laptops.

I'm pretty sure she's getting the 160GB 1GB one, but we're (Mostly me) are still deciding whether or not to get a 8.9" or a 10"...
