What isp do you have? The maximum I see around me offered is 8mb per second, and it only delivers about 5-7mbs

I recently had mine upgraded to 10mb from 4mb, and it is so much better; although it is annoying when you download something and the website will only give you 3mb/s.

Our family recently switched internet services, and for some reason someone messed up and we got 10 for a week. Now they fixed it and we're at 6.

LOL had a 20mb connection where I could hit speeds of 18mb...

But then I started running out of HDD space so I downgraded to a 1.5mb plan... Cheaper and double the downloads of the 20mb plan.

350 kb/s download time, ahaha, But I'm happy with it, I can get a 1gb or so torrent done while I'm at school... then watch the movie that night, I live in the middle of nowhere though, and I can barely get highspeed - my girlfriend is 10 minutes away from me and she can only get dial up, so I'm perfectly happy with mine...

Ive been downloading GTA IV (14 GB) for a day and its only 46% done .... Its a really big file though, my max speed so far is 960kb/s

I find it surprising, it's wireless but still loads all pages extremely quickly. Downloads stink though

My Internet has seriously picked up over the past few months. We used to be lucky if we got 200kb/s.
We pay for 8mb/s but our line only supports 5.5 (yay villages) . So no complaints from me

Sucks, I know, but granted, i'm using a laptop, and i'm going through 1 wall. Charter isn't the greatest, i know. Also it sucks being in the middle of nowhere. I sometimes hate the south.....

350 kilobits is around 40 kilobytes.

Its not bad I guess for $25 a month. I originally had SBC from 2004 until AT&T took over everything. If I could afford it I would get roadrunner turbocharged and run a speed on that. I'm going to see if anybody that I know has roadrunner.


Whats weird is that on my laptop its says 100MBs when I drag my mouse over the wireless icon. I know that my Wireless N can support up to 300MBs, but if my comp only gets 8MBs then how could m laptop get 100Mbs. I'm going to run a speedtest and repost or edit this one.

Well, its much slower on the laptop. Only 2.4Mb/s

That 100Mbps is the connection between your computer and your router. 100Mbps is a wired connection on 802.11G, while wireless is about 54Mbps on the same standard. It looks like you're connected to your Wireless N router through an Ethernet cord and either your router or your NIC is only configured to 802.11G speeds.

It's late at night and my mind is beginning to rest, so I'm not sure why you're only connected at 100Mbps wirelessly to a Wireless N router if that is the case.

5k works for me, no point spending more money than you need.

I get about 18000kb/s download and 700kb/s upload (but idk if it's bits or bytes), but the highest speed I ever got when downloading something was 1.5 megabyte/sec.

Speedtest measures in kilobits.

I have a high powered, Yagi antenna pointed at my school. I get T3 for $0 a month.

Im gonna sell some stuff to get some money to upgrade my computer. Im going to get 4GB RAM, XFX 9800GT Graphics Card and an AMD 6000+ dual core processor...

All hopefully before christmas.

The AMD 6000+ is over 2 years old now, I wouldn't bother getting it now...

For $23 more, he could get an AMD Phenom Toliman.

I WAS going to get a triple core Phenom or whatever, but I found out my mother board couldnt support it so I had to get that

What kind of motherboard do you have? I'd like to check it out for myself.

I heard they make those out of quad cores with a defective core.

I'd suggest getting a new motherboard rather than buying an old processor.
