Anyone else use Virgin Media as their ISP? Poor speeds, bad customer service, and a contract tied till next year.

Haven't had an issue with the internet for ages, but I would class the customer service as average. Speed wise, we pay for 10mb/s and get 10mb/s. Brilliant service, if you can get Virgin Media your lucky in my opinion. Cable > ADSL any day.

Sometimes stupidly bad service. I am the one who pays the bill, and I was promised 10mb and their largest TV package for £26 a month. My first bill, which was going to be high anyway, was £45, next bill was £45 again. I got onto their customer service and went through 90 different departments. Eventually ending up in Customer Retentions because I told them I would be going elsewhere.
After 3 phone calls, each about 45 minutes long, I have gotten what I want for £26 a month. Since then, I have only had one problem and that was when I was being STM'ed without a valid reason.
Agreed: Cable > DSL.

I have had one problem where the main server went down so no internet for 2 days, apart from that with the odd glitch on the tv no problems.

In that case, you are most likely on one of these up to 8mb packages. You'd likely get the same speed with one of the ADSL ISP's. How far are you from the exchange?

How do I determine how far I am from the exchange? I am on the 2MB package. My internet spikes regularly and its made more frustrating by the fact that I use a wired LAN connection

Are you sure you are on a DSL package and not Cable? They only offer 2mb in Cable form, not DSL.

I was originally paying for something like 4mb and they upgraded us to 20mb for free so I think they're great, never had a problem with then, when I needed a router they sent us one for £8.

http://allyours.virginmedia.com/html/internet/bb_deal.htmlYep, thats Cable.
I would imagine the internet spikes is caused by either your neighbours or a dodgy connection. May be worth calling them out; they'll come and adjust your connection.
