Hey there, and welcome to Fire Emblem: Raging Shadows! For your reading convenience, the bulk of this front page will be stored away in spoiler tags. Yes, I am aware that it is very rough and blunt right now, but the kinks will work themselves out in time. Have questions? Ask. I have answers!

  1. No lords! Or manaketes, for that matter! This may change as the Rp progresses, but for now in the sake of fairness they will be NPCs.
  2. Don't control other players! If you didn't make it, don't touch it! tongue.gif
  3. Please refrain from killing other people's characters without permission. Do note though that I will give permission to lynch characters that remain inactive for too long without reason, or that hinder other players by breaking rules.
  4. Now that the serious stuff is out of the way, make sure you have fun, too. This is a very important rule! If you aren't having fun, we might have to eat you, and that would be very sad. sad.gif

If you've ever played a Fire Emblem game, then skip this section. But if you haven't, you may find some of the sections below a tad bit confusing. So, here is a crash-course in Fire Emblem mechanics!

All aspects of the Fire Emblem universe work in balance, with no one aspect out-shining all the others. Swords are good against axes, but are weak against lances. Light magic burns through Dark magic, but has a weakened effect on Anima (nature). Now that's not to say an axe-wielder can not defeat a swordsman, or an Anima mage can't blow up a Dark shaman, but they'd be fighting an uphill battle.

The people themselves, however, do not follow a balanced cycle; rather, everyone continues to grow and attempt to become stronger, until they reach their peak. It's because of this that the potential for a swordsman to beat a lancer exists at all.

Now on to the tough stuff! Everything in the Fire Emblem universe has a class. That class determines things like the weapon types that can be used, and whether there are any special weapons that have a benefit against you (Example: the armorslayer sword causes extra damage to knights, but is just a regular sword against everything else). Characters can be promoted to a more powerful class once they have received a special trophy that varies between classes.

Now one of the more memorable aspects of a Fire Emblem game is weapon durability. Each weapon could only be used a set amount of times before breaking, and that was that. I'm debating whether to have a similar system in place, but for now all weapons in this Rp will NOT break or lose effectiveness over time.

Backstory
Spoiler: Click to Toggle the Spoiler.

On the continent of Anaco, there exists four kingdoms.
To the east lies the militaristic Desert Kingdom, Cynn, with her mighty citadel, Athandros.
To the west lies the feudal Plains Kingdom, Dunham, and the castle town, Zanaria.
Between the two stretches the secretive Mountain Kingdom of Herta, with Terrano Keep at her heart.
To the north of them all is scattered the luxurious Islands Kingdom of Alesia, and the royal palace, Aurora.

The two ancient kingdoms, Cynn and Dunham, have swayed in and out of war for many centuries now. But, with the difficult terrain of Herta in between, neither side has ever gained a strong hold on the other for very long.

Herta itself has come a long way from the simple no-man's land it was years ago. With the creation of Terrano Keep, the citizens of this rather quiet nation finally have a safe haven to call home. The Keep itself is rather unique in that it is one of the only natural breeding grounds for wyverns left in the world.

Alesia is the relatively new merchant kingdom, which stretches over the many islands north of the continent. It was founded by a handful of very rich merchants, who sought an easy life without war or turmoil. While Alesia does have a navy, her forces are stretched thin defending the more lavish islands from greedy pirates.

This part will be updated regularly as the story progresses
  • On the eve of the New Year's, as a black fog began flowing onto the southern shores of Dunham, Cynn launched an attack on the eastern islands of Alesia. They destroy one island, and make it their new base of operations.
  • Cynn soldiers begin pillaging nearby islands. Ereshk, sensing something in Tato, secretly saves his life and the lives of everyone in Pole by betraying the Cynn army.
  • The black fog engulfs a Dunhamian outpost. Bizarre, demonic creatures within the fog kill off everyone in the base. There are no survivors.
  • Three Cynn soldiers are sent to deal with Ereshk and Tato; a pirate, Blaine, and his mentor. Ereshk mortally wounded the pirate and managed to get a solid blow on the mentor, but now Blaine has attacked Tato.
  • A wyvern gang began pillaging a village in Herta. Will came by to stop them, but an aerial fight broke out between him and the leader, Snake. Before the other gang members could go and help their leader, a second wyvern rider showed up to challenge them. He and Blaze have a game of cat and mouse in the clouds before Snake orders the gang to retreat.
  • Ereshk recruits two more Cynn soldiers to his cause, but Blaine's master stays true to Athandros and tries to kill all four of them.
  • Lute arrives in Teirm only to find that it is infested with zombies. She meets up the one band of survivors within the city.
  • Helios and his crew agree to join forces with what remains of the Alesian navy to launch at counter-attack against Cynn.
  • The black fog creeps further across Dunham, and claims another village.
  • Ellibereth appears before Will and Simon, followed by the arrival of Anu. The four decide to head back to Terrano Keep.
  • Lute, Leeroy, the monk and the cleric are split up in Teirm when an aerial fight begins dropping spears haphazardly around them. Amidst the chaos, undead townsfolk begin to surround the two groups, further seperating them as they flee.
  • Blaine's master dies, right before Helios arrives on the shores of Anoi. Some of his pirate crew heads over towards Ereshk, Blaine, and Tato.
  • The wyvern riders encounter a village being ransacked by bandits, and decide to lend a helping hand.
  • Lute and the monk clear out the zombies on the first floor of the embassy.
  • Ereshk, Blaine, Tato, Virgil the pegasus knight, and Daniel begin travelling to Cynn in a rowboat.
  • Ereshk's group eventually reaches one of the island naval bases of the Cynn navy, and stow away on a ship headed for the Cynn coast. However, Ereshk was wounded trying to secure passage, and fell unconscious.
  • The wyvern riders and their passengers quickly dispatch of the bandits. However, Simon's wyvern was badly wounded in the fighting.
  • Lute and the monk encounter a man on the second floor of the embassy who appears to be very much un-undead.
  • During the night, a grotesque beast appears on the deck of the Cynn ship, terrorizing her crew. Ereshk is missing, with evidence suggesting he was killed off by the beast.
  • Will encounters a group of travellers on the road, and quickly ferries their healer back to Simon to heal his wyvern. However, he and Simon soon get into an argument over whether a wyvern's life is worth saving.
  • Through the combined effort of every able hand on the Cynn ship, the beast is finally slain. The captain calls a roll call, and is suprised to find out just how many of his crew was killed by the beast. He also finally gets the chance to talk to the stow-aways about who they are and why they're on his ship.
  • The beast's corpse vanishes in the night, but the crew finds the battered and broken body of a dead Ereshk. They put him below decks.
  • Finally, the ferry limps in to Ahrahab port. After a tense moment with the city guards, the captain sends the stowaways on their way to Athandros.
  • However, on the journey, Ereshk resurrects himself, and acts as if he had just fallen asleep for a while. The group stops their covered desert wagon, and Ereshk hops out, thinking they had already reached Athandros. The group was only in the hamada of Cynn, a rocky wasteland between Athandros and the northern coast. Unfortunately, the damage had already been done; the driver of their wagon had seen a dead man walk, so Daniel had to dispose of said driver.
  • As Daniel and Virgil are loading the dead driver into the wagon, a pack of six wolves made entirely out of shadows rise out of the ground and attack the group. Ereshk and Daniel try to fight them off, while the rest hid in the wagon.
  • The two of them suffered severe wounds to the wolves, and got seperated on opposite sides of the wagon. While Ereshk could heal his wounds with Nosferatu, Daniel had no such luck. As the pirate felt his life fading, a mysterious dark-robed figure arrived. This summoner took care of the remaining wolves through a combination of his own dark magic, and his summoned minions.
  • Meanwhile, Ereshk began fighting a more sentient shadow, which had appeared only when Ereshk was isolated. However, in the middle of their duel, the necromancer Ellibereth teleported in from Herta. The shadow, unsure of its ability to take on both Ereshk and Ellibereth, vanished. The two dark mages conversed for a bit, then went to check on the others.
  • Upon seeing Daniel's near-dead condition, Ellibereth decided to give a little help to Ereshk's group and heal the pirate with his dark magic. He departed for parts unknown shortly after.
  • Later that evening, the desert wagon was amok with confusion when Daniel finally woke up. While his arm was in perfect order again, his left iris had turned blood-red, and felt like it were burning.
  • Meanwhile, half-way around the world, the wyvern group had a long, boring, extremely long period of little to no talking as not a lot happened. Finally, after Anu's consistant pestering, the group left, with the wyverns flying west to Dunham. Once at the border, however, they saw that their destination was blanketed in the thick black fog that had been spreading across that nation.

*Note that Athandros, Zanaria, Terrano Keep and Aurora are just capital cities. Many smaller towns and villages exist in each of the four kingdoms alongside the capitals.

*Note that there are eight general weapon types: axes, swords, lances and bows for physical characters, and light, anima (nature), dark and staves for magical characters.

*The difference between your weapon type and your weapon: Say your character uses a katana. Their weapon type would be sword, but their weapon itself would be a katana. If your weapon of choice doesn't fit into one of the weapon types, talk to me about it.

*Classes: There are many, many different classes in the Fire Emblem universe. Below are some class trees, which I encourage everyone to look over. Do note, though, that not everyone can be a general or a hero or a sage right from the get-go. Also, if you have any other class ideas or requests, talk to me about it first. I'm pretty open to suggestions.

Gender: Male
Class: Pirate
Clothing: He wears a sleeveless brown leather jacket, hanging loosely from his shoulders, open at the front. His pants were once white, but countless months at sea have turned this colour into a dirty grey. He wears leather armguards on both arms and a black bandana on his head.
Appearance: His long voyages on the wide oceans and the hard work on board the ship have made him muscular and gave him a nice tan. People find him intimidating, his dark brown eyes never seen to smile. He has brown hair, lightened by long exposure to the sun, and he has a short beard.
Weapon Type(s): Axe
Weapon: A throwing axe and a regular steel axe, both hanging on either side of him, on his belt.
Home Town: The Snake's Fangs, a harbor town on one of Alesia's islands; The Slithering Isle.
Kingdom: Alesia
Other: Daniel is actually a spy for the admiral of Alesia's navy, keeping an eye on the pirates and their movements. Together they prevent the pirates from becoming too powerful. At the moment, he is a member of the Pirate Captain Helios' crew. He occasionally kills and robs innocents alongside them, to keep his cover intact.

Is this alright? I've never applied for an RP before, so I have no idea what to expect, or what I should do. When do we start, for instance?

EDIT: Xtel, you're thinking of the Laguz tongue.gif

Accepted.
As for starting places, there's a bunch of spots that could be. For one, there's a new year's celebration in just about every city and town across the world. Not that any of our characters are from Dunham yet, but there's also the black mist drifting in on the southern coast over a military outpost. Then, of course, there's the islands in eastern Alesia that are being attacked by Cynn's armies.

And I'll have to look in to these 'Laguz' beings.
Xtel
Thank you for that.

The Laguz are a race in the Wii games that have the ability to transform between an animal form (cats, wolves, birds, dragons...) and a human form. I think that somewhere in FE8 (The Sacred Stones), they mention the Laguz, like in a cutscene or something. The Manakete are most likely a form of the Laguz.

Still working on an app.

Don't listen to Xtel, it's actually game cube.

? I played Radiant Dawn on the Wii.

Path of Radiance is for the GC

Radiant Dawn is for the Wii

I still mean what I said about FE8 saying something about it too.

I wanna be a flying class but then I feel like I'm copying Sila and being a Pegasus Rider....
Because all the Pegasus Riders in the series are girls....it just feels weird.....

Normally I'd be a mage/shaman or a thief/myrmidon, but I feel like doing something different.

I'll keep working on an app tonight. Hopefully I can get on tomorrow and post it.

It's all right if you want to be another wyvern rider. Think of the potential we could have with a flock of wyverns! Or is it a murder of wyverns? A pack? A pride of wyverns? Eh, a large group of man-eating dragon-like beings with guys with pokey sticks on their backs! biggrin.gif

I think the first IC post will come very soon.

o rly?

She's pretty good in the game, and if you view the support conversations, she isn't that bad. But Knoll's dodging is bloody awful, how can he dodge her attacks?
Falzar
Because Knoll is awesome! If we want to continue this, do it over pm.

Lute's cool. No reason to shout at her.

Besides, if you check the FF RP and Silver Dawn, you would know he can make her rock.

The Nomad Trooper was replaced by the Ranger. They have essentially the same abilities and can use the same attacks and everything. The only classes that wasn't continued between FE7 and FE8 are the Nomad and Bard classes (I think)

Just noticed there isn't a History section in the app. Dunno if you forgot or intentionally left it out, which wouldn't be a bad idea. People then can explain it if they want to and not if they don't. Plus then people can live normal lives (if there's a History part in apps, people normally have weird histories.)

I'll proabably wait until after you start IC to app, as I haven't thought of a good one yet and I don't want to slow the RP down.

Two characters is fine, if you think you can handle it. Having a Sage is fine, too; currently, Lute is the only promoted character besides Sir Bryson and a few unmentioned-as-of-yet villains. None of the legendaries from previous games will appear here, but eventually there will be unique legendary weapons yet to be seen making their way into this world. As for having a ship, it shouldn't be a problem.

Like others have said, the nomad trooper is now called a ranger, and is a promoted unit. Things like bards and dancers won't really have a use here, but if your character happens to feel like dancing, or knows how to play a flute I'm not stopping you. The enemies might, though, if you do things like that in battle.

I purposely left of the history section partially for your reason, and partially because I think it makes for a better Rp if the characters reveal their history through their actions rather than having everyone know what they're like right from the get-go.

Ok! IC time!

IC:

On the southern shores of Dunham, near the border to Herta...
"This is so boring!" The recruit exclaimed, sitting down on the top of the wall he was guarding. His partner was lying on his back, spear casually left to the side.
"Mhmm..." He mumbled back in response, closing his eyes.
"I mean, nothing ever happens here, ever! We just sit here, day after day, night after night, patrolling these walls, keeping this fort safe. Safe? Safe from what!?" The first recruit inquired angrily of the night air. The second rolled over on his side, trying to sleep.
"At least the pay is as steady as the boredom," He mumbled back, half-asleep already. The sound of clanking armour running towards them woke the sleeping recruit up immediately. In a flash, the two were on their feet, spears at the ready, looking out aimlessly into the dark landscape, pretending they were doing something. The knight that ran up to them wasn't fooled, however.
"You two, stop loafing around!?" The knight smacked both of their helmets with his armoured glove. "Do you not realize that Cynn could strike at us from any time, from any where, in any direction? Soldiers! How could you live with yourselves if our entire nation fell to those desert pansies because you two couldn't keep your eyes open?" On the last few words, he violently poked the nearest recruit in the chest with each beat. "Now get back to post! Don't let me catch you slacking again!" Angrily, the knight stormed off down the wall, looking for more recruits to bully.

"I still can't believe we're stuck here in this crummy fortress on new-year's eve!" The first recruit exclaimed, after a few minutes had passed. The two recruits were back on the floor, unwilling to stand and wait for yet another uneventful sunrise.
"Mmhm... go to bed... watch the ground... Dude, I'm trying to sleep..." The second replied lazily to the first. Angrily, the first recruit picked up his spear and headed off down the wall in the opposite direction of the knight. There were only two screams that followed; one of extreme panic and mortal terror, and then a shorter, cut-off one of intense pain and agony.

The second recruit jumped up, very confused, at the sound of the screams. He scrambled for his lance, and as he picked it up noticed how a thick black fog had rolled over the fort walls and hung in the air.
"Eh, that fog sure moved quick..." He shivered, only now realizing how bitterly cold -no, how deathly cold- the air had become in the fog. The torch lights along the edge of the wall seemed dimmer, as if their light no longer held any power. The recruit shivered again, this time out of how bizarre the whole situation was. The fort was eerily quiet. Too quiet. The natural noises of the soldiers inside the fort celebrating the new year were gone. The cackling of the bonfire was strangely missing. His world was devoid of all sound, and nearly all light. Entering the paranoid state of a red-neck who has lost all control of his world, the recruit violently threw his spear to the ground. The clanging echoed, abnormally loud in the silent, still world, through the fog and into the darkness beyond. The recruit, quivering in terror, quickly grasped his spear once more and held to it tight like some sort of life raft. Slowly, ever so slowly, he inched his way forward towards where the first recruit had gone. In the dim light of the torch, he could just make out the figure of a man. With a sigh of relief, he loosened his grasp on his spear, and moved more quickly towards the figure.
"Dude, you scared me there! Don't do tha-!" His voice cut out quickly, unable to speak, as the figure turned its head to face the recruit. The recruit could make out some of the details of the figure now, and while his mouth kept trying to move, his throat was stuck. The figure, while definitely humanoid, was most certainly not human. Its eyes were hollow voids, with only a small red light glowing dimly within their vast emptiness. The creature's skin was mottled and rotten, with bits falling off. Its fingers were more like the fingers of a demon from a children's story; they were blackened, and sharpened to a claw-like point. The creature began to move, slowly shambling towards the second recruit. In a panic, he tried to back-pedal, but tripped and fell to the ground. His hand touched something warm and sticky. He pulled his hand to his face, and nearly fainted at the crimson liquid that was dripping off of his fingers. The recruit looked around in a panic, and saw the source of the blood. Lying on the ground was the eviscerated body of the first recruit. Quickly, the second recruit scrambled to his feet, and tried to run from the creature. After taking a few steps, he turned his head from looking over his shoulder at the thing that followed him to look at what was in front of him. He immediately slammed on the brakes as fast as he could. Staring him right in the face with those cold, empty eyes was another one of those fiends. The recruit's final screams did not land on any living being's ear.

Somewhere, in the eastern islands of Alesia...
The new-year's party was loud. The entire town had gathered on a single beach of their island, and had lit a gigantic bonfire. Alcohol was freely passed amongst the adults, and of course some of the teens managed to swindle some themselves in the darkness. Fireworks were lit. They rocketed to the sky, exploding in a brilliant dazzle of colour and merriment. The townsfolk danced around the bonfire, oblivious to the danger lurking just outside the light of the fire.
Silently, the captain gave the signal. Catapults, loaded onto a vast armada of ships, all fired their loads at once. The island was bombarded with a plethora of exploding rocks. In a flurry of panic, the drunken mob began running everywhere and anywhere they could, but nowhere on the island was truly safe. Their screams of merriment turned to screams of panic, although no one from the neighboring islands could tell the difference.
After the catapults had finished unloading their burdens on the island, damaging much of the infrastructure, the soldiers moved out. These 'marines' appeared to be no different than the naval pirates that plagued Alesia; they all had axes tied to their belts, and fought just as well in the water as out. Dozens of them dove off of the ships, and swam ashore. Their orders were simple; eliminate the island. Not a single man, woman or child was spared, if they were found. There would be no prisoners. Needless to say, the island didn't put up much of a fight to Cynn's naval attack. By the time dawn broke, Cynn had a new naval base of operations up and running, behind enemy lines.

Deep at the heart of Herta's mountains, in Terrano Keep...
Sir Bryson slammed his empty ale mug cheerfully onto the hard stone table. Across from him, on the other side of the table was one of the ground knights of Terrano Keep. Moments later, he slammed down his now-empty mug, too.
"Ha! Is this the best drinker you ground-folk have? Is there nooo one else in this entire Keep that can challenge the all-mighty Sir Brysoooon!" He exclaimed, standing up and looking around at the crowd. Despite the extreme merriment of the new-year's festival inside the Keep, no one stepped forward to accept his challenge. The men had all learned their lesson by now; no one entered a drinking contest with Sir Bryson and escaped with their pride intact. Even so, they all laughed heartily. When no one stepped forward, the bar maid approached and offered to refill his mug. Sir Bryson was about to accept the offer when he saw Will leave the party, and run up the stone stairs leading to the surface. Curious, the Wyvern Lord paused for a moment to decline the bar maid's offer, then hurried after his student.

On the roof of Terrano Keep, Will was lying on his back looking at the stars. His wyvern was lying down next to him, his big muzzle resting lightly on Will's chest. Breathing heavily from the long climb up to the roof from the mess hall, Sir Bryson stood at the edge of the steps and simply watched Will for a few moments. When he had caught his breath, Sir Bryson headed over to Will.
"Hey, kid, what's up? The party's downstairs. And, ah... so are the pretty ladies," He inquired, half sitting and half falling down beside Will. The youth turned his head to look at his mentor.
"I just prefer being up here... He doesn't like large crowds, and I'd rather be up here with him than down there in that drunken crowd," Will replied.
"But think of all the pretty ladies!" Bryson exclaimed, definitely too drunk to remember this conversation later.
"If any of those pretty ladies are worth my time, they'll be the kind of person who would rather be up here with me and a wyvern than down there with a bunch of drunken old sods." Will's voice was soft and quiet, not wanting to break the serene calm that had fallen over him and his wyvern before Bryson arrived.
"Oh? S-so. So now... now I'm a drunken old sod!? Why'd no one... um... why'd no one tell me?" Bryson burst out into laughter at his own joke, and began rolling around on the roof. His noise level alarmed the wyvern slightly, and the beast eyes Bryson cautiously. The wyvern would defend Will with his life if he had to, but having known Bryson since he had hatched the beast didn't see him as a very big threat; just a noisy one. Will sighed, and pushed gently on the wyvern's nose. He obliged by lifting his head off of Will's chest. Will stood up, and extended his hand down to Bryson.
"Come on, lets get you back where you belong," He stated calmly. Sir Bryson took Will's hand gratefully, and pulled himself to his feet. Will escorted Bryson back down to the party, then came back up to the roof. After checking to make sure his barbed spear was safely secured to the wyvern's harness, Will hopped up into the saddle and took off into the night air.

OoC: Feel free to have your own new-year's eve party if you want, or join one of the other parties already in motion. It's mostly just a time to establish your character amongst the other characters right now, anyway.

OOC:
Am I accepted? If so can I IC now? (Also, I added history, because I just wanted to and I kinda feel it's important)

Italics means Virgil talking to himself.

IC:
Virgil sat at the table, the drunkards walking around, laughing and joking around. Not drinking anything but water, since he knew what beer would do if a battle were to come. Of course he didn't bring any weapons, except for his sword which lay hidden beneath his cloak. Getting up after a drunkard spilled beer on his hair, he starting shaking his head fast, trying to dry it. "Why am I here..." Virgil groaned, looking out the window, he saw a wyvern and it's rider soar into the night. Getting tired of the pointless party, Virgil went outside, and was soon thinking deep, about his wife, and about wyverns. "A wyvern nearly killed me, so should I hate all wyverns or get over it... Why didn't I help my wife? Why wasn't I more careful..."

Virgil was awoken by a shrug on his shoulder, his best friend who he saved countless times, as he had saved Virgil countless times. "Why are you out here? The party's in there." Virgil turned around and sighed, "He's drunk. Great." Virgil explained about drunkards, and accidents. His friend went back to the drinking and Virgil thought again.

Falzar saw Will run off, and sighed. It's too dang loud in here! he thought. Falzar looked around for a few seconds, and picked up his book, the Wyvern Crisis, which was writen about fifteen years ago, when there was a shortage on wyverns for all sides of the kingdom, and that Tyranno Keep was almost invaded by all sides because we still breed the wyverns. How true that was, he didn't know. He tried to run into his room, but a general stopped him.
"Why aren't you in with the other Party goers?" He asked, sounding annoyed.
"Can't I just go to my room? I'd honestly like to read my book then have drunk, sweaty warriors swinging their swords over my head." Falzar admitted.
"Well, I guess that just this once, you can go, but stay in your room. There's a black fog rolling outside, and we don't want anyone to get lost!"
Falzar shuddered. The last time this happened, they were overun by Maneketes, and that was a fight to remember. But it was probably just a coincidence last time. But a battle on the New Years? That had to be one pissed off regiment.

OOC: Still asking about a boat/ship.

IC: Tato sighed. It was New Year's Eve, and Master wants him to do nothing.
He wanted to see the fireworks, socialize at the party, and count down to the New Year.
He turned twelve a week ago, why can't he go? Master says he needs sleep.

Tato twisted and turned in bed. Can't sleep!
He sat up and and picked up his lantern from his bedside table. Maybe eating will help, He thought.
He walked over to the larder and picked out some milk, rice, and some biscuits. Good eating.
Tato was about to walk over to the dinner table, when, suddenly, the front door blew open, destroying the bamboo sliding door. A soldier was standing at the door.
Tato's eyes widened as he saw the Cynn coat of arms. He glanced at his spellbook, across the room, and back at the soldier, who was about to attack him. He rapidly stuffed his foodstuffs back into the larder, and turned to run back to his book, but the soldier was upon him, ready to strike the killing blow.

Then, all hell broke loose.

Tato woke up to birds chirping. He blinked, blinded by the morning sun. Must have been a dream!
But then he noticed the larder beside him, and the body of a Cynian footsoldier. He realized he was soaked in blood. He propped himself up against the larder, dazed. What is going on? I'm injured, Tato realized, as he saw a slash wound in the side of his chest. "Master won't be back for another few days..."
He glanced again at the body. Tato noticed something that he had missed before; a large gaping hole in the soldier's chest! His vision blurred, he felt like he was going to faint. Then, his mind shifted to a lesson Master had attempted to teach him a week back...

"Tato! Nice to see you up so early." Lute popped into the room, smiling. "Happy Birthday! I have a special treat for you today." Tato rubbed his eyes.

...

"Remember how I taught you about the two universal types of magic a while back?" Tato nodded at Lute's words, happy that he was getting a special lesson. They were standing on the beach. Tato recited "Yes, there is spellbook magic, and magic that you have to will your mind to create. The latter could kill you if you do not know what you're doing."
Lute acknowledged Tato and picked up a rough marble stone. "This is a very precise technique. I don't expect you to get it immediately, but pay attention!" Tato bobbed his head up and down. Lute continued, "Magic can be used many ways..." She concentrated for a moment, and a small red ball of energy floated about an inch above her palm. Tato gaped. Lute then moved her palm, turning it upside down, as she picked up the stone. Barely making contact, she polished the stone. Tato gaped again. "Now, you try it."
After about fifteen minutes of concentrating, Tato produced a green ball of energy, and attempted to polish the stone. He bore a hole right through the stone. He sweatdropped. Lute stared at the stone in amusement, but still at a loss for words. Tato felt faint and weak. He forced a small laugh and said "That'd make a good souvenir..."

...

"Wow..." He murmured. He then drifted back into unconsciousness.

OOC: Wow indeed! One of my longest IC posts. Tato is going to be out of action for awhile, until somebody finds him. Tato lives in one of those airy Japanese houses, with the thin wood walls, and sliding doors. It's a great place for a resort like place, which Alesia is. I'm naming the island Anoi, it sounds good for an island, imo.

As for having a ship, it shouldn't be a problem.

IC:
Ereshk narrowed his eyes, staring curiously at the small resort island in the darkness of the night. He quickly glanced back down to the map of Alesia, illuminated dimly by a small lamp. Ereshk slid his finger up the eastern side, stopping at each island that had been raided until he reached their current island.
"Anoi Island..." Ereshk read out loud quietly, then turned back to looking out at the island. "There's something strange about this one..." The shaman headed straight for the captain of the small raiding ship he was on.
"Captain, have your men gather all the supplies they need then return to the ship. I want to take care of the survivors. Execute them, of course," Ereshk replied, slipping the lie in under his tongue in such a fluid manner that the captain didn't even notice. He grinned roughly, and nodded to Ereshk.
"Gotta get yer kill count up some how, eh? Well, good on ya. I'll pull m'boys out, you'll have the island by dawn," The captain replied. Ereshk bowed politely in thanks, the scurried off the ship in a silent flutter of black robes.

At dawn, Tato had his brief moment of awakening, but failed to see Ereshk standing in the doorway. When the pupil fainted again, the shaman couldn't help but roll his eyes. With a slight grunt of pain, Ereshk lifted Tato off of the ground, and placed him in a nearby chair. The kid taken care of, Ereshk then dragged the corpse outside, onto flat ground. He closed his eyes for a moment in concentration, and raised his left hand. A ball of shadow formed in his palm, then sunk into the ground. Moments later it appeared again, rising up and around the corpse. The shadow engulfed the corpse completely, and with a gruesome crunch and a quick snap the sphere of shadow sheared itself in half. As the shadow faded away, Ereshk smiled lightly to himself to see that none of the corpse remained.

Ereshk had started up the cooking fire in Tato's kitchen. He eventually found a frying pan, and some eggs in the larder. While Tato remained unconscious, Ereshk made breakfast.

IC: Lute stood at the helm of her ship. It was a small racing yacht. Racing boats was her latest hobby.
Of course, Lute wanted the best. It was the fastest ship in Alesia. Behind her ship, was whatever left of the Alesian Royal Navy. Two ships. On New Year's Eve, the King had urgently requested that she lead the two ships to safety. Anoi island housed the capitol and the remaining garrison, but the two ships she was leading would be vital.
Lute's thoughts drifted to Tato.

"I do wonder how Tato is doing."

-

Tato woke again, this time to the smell of eggs. He found himself on a chair.
His wound was still hurting terribly, but it had stopped bleeding. The room showed no sign of what had happened the previous night, however. He knew somebody was in the house, so he called out "W-what is going on?"
Silavor
Ereshk did not reply to Tato right away, too busy looking for plates. He eventually found two in a cupboard, and slid some of the scrambled eggs onto each of them.
"You are a very peculiar fellow," Ereshk finally responded to Tato, placing a plate in front of him. The shaman pulled up a second chair beside Tato, and sat down in it with his own plate. "You should eat. You're going to need your strength."

----------

The cloaked figure walked slowly, with a noble air through the hall. The dark stone floor had a blood-red rug on it, leading down the hallway to a throne at the end. Dark stone pillars lined the sides of the hallway, with dim torches hanging on every second pillar. The place had a miasma of darkness, of the cold grip of death. It was much like the black fog, only there was no fog here. Just the cold, clammy air of this stone hallway.
The figure apporached the stone throne, and knelt in front of it.
"My liege, I am here to report." His voice was enchanting, both rich and subdued at the same time. It was the voice of a well-kept young man, although with the figure completely enshrouded in black robes it was impossible to tell whether the voice was a lie or not.
Black smoke, finer than the fog but still brimming with malicious intent, began to pour out of cracks around the throne. The smoke slithered its way from any crack it could find in the room to the throne, where it solidified into a second cloaked figure. This one was slouched, almost like it was too frail to sit up straight.
"My liege, the assault has gone as planned," The first figure stated, not looking up at the frail being sitting on the throne.
"Rise, my friend. Were there... survivors?" The voice was strained, and seemed aged more than it should be. The figure on the throne suddenly erupted into a bout of coughing. The kneeling figure stood up, and took a half-step towards the throne.
"My liege, there were no survivors, as planned. The ones with potential were brought back; the rest are mere fodder now." The pale figure on the throne smiled lightly.
"That is... good. Thank you for this good news." The figure on the throne began coughing violently again. "Please, find it... I don't have much time. Destroy the entire kingdom if you have to..." With a sigh of relief, the figure dissolved back into the black smoke and slipped back down through the cracks it came out of. The first figure, once all the smoke had gone, smirked and walked out of the hall.

OOC: Is it allowed for me to write my ICs in first person? If so, here it is! If it is not allowed then I'll have it changed to third person immediately!

IC: I sat down on the wooden bench beside my mentor. "The ships look fabulous don't they?" He asked me. I wanted to say yes but realising that these ships were being loaded for war purposes I did not say anything.

"Why must we attack on New Years' Eve?" I asked my mentor, looking at him. "Even if Alesia is our enemy." The thought of thousands of innocent people dying on New Years' Eve was too unbearable.

"Blaine," My mentor spoke softly, laying his heavy hand on my shoulder. "You are a recruit. You are trained in the art of warfare. You should not let petty compromises stop you from your true purpose, to serve Cynn as a loyal soldier. Attacking Alesia at a time like this is the only way to gain the upper hand in our endless war. They are distracted on this day and are unaware of our navy heading toward them." His softness soon turned to a whisper. "By tomorrow morning, one of the eastern islands of Alesia will be ours! Now go. Go enjoy the festival. I have bought some wine and a whore for you if that is what you want."

"No," I whispered, looking down at the ground. "I am not in the mood. I'll be in my quarters if you need me."

"Very well then," My mentor said. "Goodnight."

I lay down on my bed, staring up at the ceiling. I had originally planned on becoming an author. Writing was my greatest hobby. I had no interest in slaying people just because some leader wanted me to. But after the death of my father I was forced to join the army as a replacement. I long to see the freedom which I once enjoyed. My mother, living somewhere within the fortification of the Citadel, must be lonely. Knowing that there was nothing I could do to change my destiny, I shut my eyes and let the New Years' Eve go by.

* * *

My maid served me a plate of scrambled eggs. I thanked her and began eating. "Blaine!" I heard my mentor. He entered my quarters and sat down on the other side of the small, round table. "I have good and bad news about our navy."

"What's the bad news?" I asked, eating my breakfast without any concern to the situation.

"Why the pessimism?" My mentor spoke. "The good news is that our navy has pillaged the nearby islands."

"And the bad news?" I asked.

"I knew it," He spoke, disappointed. "Well, the bad news is that one of our shamans, Ereshk particularly, has betrayed us. Apparently he did not execute the survivors as promised but rather he saved them all." I felt a sudden feeling of joy go through me. I could not help but think about the good deed which Ereshk had committed. But then again, the thought that our navy was being betrayed by one of our own men was disturbing.

"What will you do about him?" I questioned, gesturing the maid to come and take away my plates.

"I don't know," My mentor spoke not-knowingly. "That is up to the higher authorities." He got up from his place. "Come on, Blaine. Time for your training to commence."

A rather burly knight entered the training arena. He pointed to two nearby soldiers.
"You two! Here! And..." The knight scanned the area, looking for a third target. His eyes fell upon Blaine. "You! Recruit! You three are to head up to Pole by boat and deal with these rumors of survivors. We upper-rank soldiers don't have time to deal with rumors about a possible traitor! We've got a nation to crush! Your boat leaves in 30 minutes. Don't be late!" And with that, the burly knight with the booming voice left to go find more orders to fulfill.
The two soldiers, one a lanceman like Blaine, the other a pirate, looked at each other curiously, turned to stare at Blaine, then shrugged. Without saying a word to their new partner, the two left to go get ready to deal with Ereshk.

IC: I was rather confused as to being selected so suddenly on a mission. This would be my first mission and, despite my worried state, my mentor did not even show a hint of fear. "Aren't you scared?" I asked him, astonished by his bravery.

"Scared?" He said, looking at me surprisingly. "What is there to be scared of? Even though this is only my fifth mission, I am not scared. The fact that I'll be serving my nation in any way possible is a blessing to me." He was certainly a great inspiration for me. And his words motivated me to carry on. We didn't even get to start our training and I, along with my mentor and a pirate, was selected for a mission. I produced my bag pack from under my bed and filled it with two suits, two daggers, and my mother's painting. It was a rather small picture, painted with proper care. I opened my drawers to check if there was something I was missing and saw an ink bottle, my feather and my journal. A few years ago, before my father was killed, I had planned to use this journal as a medium for writing great novels. However, I was selected in the army long before I could accomplish that dream. But now I decided that my writing skills could be put to test. So, I put the journal along with the feather and ink bottle into my bag with the intention of writing down any memorable moment that would occur on the mission. "Are you ready?" My mentor entered my room, holding his own bag.

"Yeah," I said. I picked up my bag and hung it on my shoulder, then held my training lance.

"You won't be needing that," My mentor took the training lance from my hand and put it aside. He went outside the room and picked up something, then he showed me a handsome lance. The entire body of the lance was made of iron and painted silver. The tip of the lance was made from iron and steel and it was sharp to the touch. It wasn't painted silver however, it had the flag of Cynn hanging just below it. "You'll have to represent your country with great honour and pride." My mentor smiled at me.

"Thanks," I said, holding the lance with great pride. It was six feet tall, just a bit taller than myself. "But, how will I use this? I am not experienced with a real and heavy lance."

"There's always a first time for everything," My mentor smiled. "Just remember what I taught you. Assume this to be your training staff, only this one's sharper and heavier." I nodded and held it tightly in my right hand. "Come, the boat leaves in fifteen minutes." My mentor left the room. I quickly tore a page from my journal and dipped the feather into the ink bottle. I began writing a letter to my mother so that she may understand the reason for my departure. "Blaine! Hurry up!"

"Just a second!" I yelled. I finished writing the letter and placed it in an envelope. Also, I placed in the envelope a small, glass bottle of a cologne which my mother gifted me for my sixteenth birthday. It was to act as a reminder to her about me. I left my quarters and handed over the letter to one of the scouts, telling him to deliver the message as soon as possible. Then, I climbed on to the saddle of my mentor's gelding, sitting behind him and then we strode away.

"You do realise that we'll be dealing with the traitor, Ereshk," My mentor reminded me.

"Yeah," I replied faintly.

"You seemed depressed," He said. "Why so?" I wanted to tell him how I didn't want to kill the traitor. He did something which I wanted to do, but had not the strength to do.

"No reason," I told him. In a matter of ten minutes we reached the boat.

"What took ya' so long?" Asked the pirate who was already on the medium-sized boat.

"Sorry for being so late," My mentor said, climbing off his gelding and stroking his neck. "We'll return, Terra." He spoke to his horse, kissing its forehead.

My mentor jumped onto the boat, followed by me and we started paddling.

IC:
Somewhere, deep in the Hertan mountains...
There were four of them. They watched, sitting on the mountain tops, as the small village slowly woke up from the night of partying. The guy wearing crimson platemail sneered, and hopped up onto his wyvern. It was covered in scales blacker than night itself, and its eyes were both repulsive and mesmerizing, being the same colour as its rider's armour. Following the first wyvern rider, the other three quickly followed suit and jumped onto the backs of their own wyverns. The wyvern whose scales were a corrosive yellow/green took a hesitant step forward, then paused and turned to look at the black wyvern. The other two, a blood-red wyvern and an electric blue, also turned to watch the black wyvern. When he was sure all of the eyes were on him, the black wyvern's rider raised is right arm, then took off into the sky. The other three were in the air moments later. The four of them as one descended with lightning speed on the small village below, like a murder of crows descending upon a fresh carcass. Once they reached the village, they spread out in a fan shape. Using their lances like fishing spears, they nabbed whatever they wanted from the open markets, and terrorized the townsfolk running through the streets.
"Archer!" The electric-blue wyvern's rider cried out. The other three immediately without even thinking about it flew straight up into the air with their stolen wares. As the four of them glided up in the sky, they spotted the archer down below on a rooftop. He had an arrow notched and drawn, waiting for an open target. The black wyvern's rider smirked, and pointed silently with his lance at the archer. The other three nodded, and grinned wickedly themselves. They descended upon the archer, moving in a seemingly chaotic spiral. The archer loosed arrow after arrow at the four, but their well-rehearsed plan was soundproof; the dance the wyverns were doing through the air made it too hard for the archer to figure out where to shoot the arrows to make them hit. Within seconds the four had fallen down to striking distance of the archer. He barely dodged the first lance attack, and was forced to roll off the edge of the roof and into the narrow street below to avoid being hit by the second. The four of them just laughed at the poor archer's predicament, as the fall had most likely broken his arm.
"If you value your lives, you will leave Riolin right now," Will stated in a quiet, cold voice. He had flown down from a nearby mountain after hearing the screams of the villagers. His wyvern now hovered just above the rooftops, staring the other four in the face. The wyvern snorted his impatience; he could sense the desire to destroy in these four, and had learned through experience with other wyvern gangs that types like these do not fear words, only actions. The black wyvern flew forward, towards Will. His rider eyed Will and his wyvern with both caution and critique.
"Hmm, not bad. You'd make a half-decent fifth member. Want in?" The black wyvern rider inquired, still keeping a cautious eye on him. Will was slightly taken aback by his offer.
"W-why would I join you? You're nothing but a bunch of vagabonds, dragging the reputation of wyverns through the muck!" He replied. The three wyvern riders behind their leader grew tense, and grabbed ahold of their lances. Their leader simply gave Will a half-smile.
"So is that what they teach you at that over-hyped hill of yours? Kid, you've got potential. Don't throw it away to a bunch of old sots with fat wyverns! Join us, and show the world your real potential!" The leader rebutted. Will simply shook his head, and readied his barbed spear. His lance was back at the Keep; he didn't figure there would be trouble this soon after new-years when he left.
"My potential is shown when I bring down gangs like yours. And the only old sots with fat wyverns will be you four, as you rot in jail with your wyvern's wings clipped," Will replied. Scowling, the leader flew straight at Will. He dodged by flying straight up, then hovering for a bit. The leader charged up at Will, who dodged again by swooping to the side. Both of them expected the other three to come rushing up, but they were presently occupied; a second wyvern rider had entered the scene. The wyvern had dark grey scales and golden-brown eyes. His rider was wearing a ridiculous smile, which was slightly unnerving to the corrosive yellow, blood red and electric blue wyverns. They all paused for a moment, unsure whether to strike or not, but then the blood red wyvern got up the courage to strike at the newcomer.

The black wyvern charged at Will, whose wyvern fell gracefully down through the air for a few seconds to dodge. Now having a clear shot at the underbelly, Will shot straight at the black wyvern as fast as his own wyvern could go. The gang leader was barely able to fly to the side, noticing Will's attack at the last. They both paused for breath, hovering at relatively the same plane.
"Heh, you're pretty good, for a Keep'er. I think you've earned yourself some names; I'm Snake, down there is Venom, Blaze, and Cobalt," The leader stated, then readied his lance once more. Will nodded slightly when Snake revealed his name.
"I guess it's only fair, after a compliment like that, to tell you my name is Will. Now die, you mangy pirate!" Will shouted back before flying at full speed at Snake.

OoC: The yellow one is Venom, the red is Blaze, and the blue is Cobalt, in case you didn't get that by their names. Xtel, just don't kill them off yet, but feel free to have your fun with them.

IC: Meanwhile, in a far off corner of the Alesian empire, on the forsaken Fiery Island, Helios' pirates had been celebrating the New Year, hoping it would be an even better year for them. Finally, the captain had allowed them to go on shore leave, and there was no better place for a pirate than The Busty Wench, the most famous pirate tavern in all of Alesia.

Daniel, too, celebrated their success, though his heart was filled with agony and sadness, as it had always been. There had not been a genuine smile on his face since the day the Admiral called Daniel to his chambers. He remembered it like the day of yesterday, the day that Admiral Kingston ordered him to find and infiltrate the pirates. Daniel was resentful of this task, but the Admiral was adamant. There was no-one that could complete this mission, but Daniel. His dark and clouded past, of which Daniel had told only the Admiral and no-one else, would allow him to locate the pirates quicker than any other man. With pain in his heart, Daniel left the beautiful city of Aurora to look for the pirates. It didn't take (...)

"Arrrr, why the long face matey!"

Daniel was harshly torn away from the memories of his past by a member of the crew.

"The hull's filled with booty and the wenches are prettier than evarrr! And not one of them stuck-up soldierboys will ever stop us!"

Daniel smiled at the man, who had obviously been drinking to much mead. Daniel chugged the last bit of mead in his own mug and got up. While he was walking along the beach, back to the ship, he noticed the sun was starting to rise. A new day, a new year even, dawned on them. "Will this be the year we finally stop these rotten scoundrels?" He asked himself, while staring at the horizon.

Suddenly, Daniel noticed a small black dot on the horizon, too big to be a seagull, moving too fast to be a whale. It was a ship! He quickly whipped out his telescope and studied the ship, which was sailing right at them, for any sign of who was on board.

His eyes widened as he realised what he was looking at. It was one of the Navy's Royal Sloops, and it was sailing under a white flag!

As fast as his legs could carry him, Daniel rushed to the ship, to warn the captain.

OOC: Awesome, you just added some more remnants to the navy! Now why is it flying a white flag and sailing for them?

OoC; My first thoughts were that they are going to try to sign a peace treaty with the pirates to try and fight off the invaders together or something like that, or at least use The Fiery Island as a safe heaven from which the Navy can plan an assault, since the Cynn army has better things to do than go sack pirate islands.

OOC: Ah, I see. Currently the majority of the remnants (Two) is skirting around the island of Anoi; doing whatever it is they're doing(I don't have an idea what to do of them yet)

I missed a lot (as usual). Just finished reading through all the IC's. Hopefully I didn't miss anything and can seemlessly assimilate into the story. Hope not to ruin anything.

IC: Simon grasped the leather saddle of his wyvern hard as he let out a laugh. The blood-red wyvern that was following him was catching up fast. He didn't care though. He pulled his body closer to his wyvern, hoping to catch less resistance. His wyvern rose quickly into the sky, approaching the thick clouds above. Within moments of cutting through them, the wyvern and rider who were chasing him broke through as well. Instead of continuing the chase, Simon's wyvern turned and began to hover, facing the opposing wyvern. The rider held a long spear, clenching it tightly in anger.

"What do you think you're doing, boy? Think you can outrun me? Afriad to fight?" He huffed angrily as he waited for an answer. Simon chuchled under his breath before speaking.

"Nah, I just wanted to see how many of you I could pull away from the village. Looks like the other two are smart enough to stay behind their master."

"What did you say?"

"Face it. I could easily tell. From the moment you guys attacked, it was easy to see that that man with the black wyvern is your leader. The three of you are just dogs, following their master."

The opposing wyvern roared as it charged at Simon, mimicking his rider's emotions. Simon laughed as his wyvern nosedived into the clouds, the rider's shouts and the wyvern's snarls easily head behind him. His wyvern sped up as the ground came closer, the wind ripping at Simon's face. At the last second, his wyvern pulled up, narrowly dodging a collision with a large hut. His persuer, however, was less fortunate. As his wyvern continued to fly, staying close to the ground while trying to stay away from buildings, roars could be heard once more. He looked behind for a moment, noting that the opposing rider, his face nearly as red as his wyvern's scales, was closing in once more.

"Looks like this game of cat and mouse needs to end. Quick! To the skies!"

His wyvern understood and began to increase speed, quickly rocketing back towards the clouds. Simon could barely hear his persuer shouting about "this old trick again" as he followed. As they entered the thick clouds, Simon's wyvern moved nimbly, flying blindly through them rather them continuing into the skies above. After several minutes of silence, Simon heard a loud roar and the sound of wings flapping towards the earth.

OOC: It's kinda long and it didn't really help much, but I dunno.

OoC: The Sloop at the Fiery Island could be just a scout, sent away from the battles by Admiral Kingston with the mission to get help, meaning that it has got nothing to do with the two remaining vessels at Anoi and doesn't even know of the Navy's defeat. At least there are 3 remaining ships then, and even more if they can persuade the pirates to help them.

IC:
Daniel barged into the captain's cabin without even knocking. "Captain! A ship approaches on the horizon!", he said, while gasping for air. Helios, who had been sound asleep dreaming of a fleet of his own, awoke with a growl and immediately reached for his double-bladed axe.

"You maggot! How dare you wake me like that! Give me one good reason not to kill you where you stand!"

"She..she's a Navy ship, sir!" Daniel replied, keeping a close eye at the axe, ready to dodge it, should it move. "One of the Navy's vessels? Here? And alone too?" Helios seemed confused.

Daniel, seeing the puzzled look on Helios' face, said: "Captain, there is something else you should know. She's flying a white flag..."

This confused the captain even more. Daniel could only guess what kind of thoughts were going through the captain's head at that point, trying to discover the point of that lone vessel at his doorstep.

Helios rushed past Daniel, pushing him aside. He searched the horizon for the ship Daniel had told him about and it didn't take long for him to find it. The captain's eyes were getting worse with age, but he was one of the best pirates ever to sail the waters of Alesia and he could still recognise a ship from afar.

Daniel came up next to Helios. "Captain?"

A lot could be said of Helios, but that he was unintelligent certainly wasn't one of them. The approaching vessel was so strange, it's sailors deserved to be heard. The captain seemed to have made up his mind and, in a harsh voice, he replied: "It seems that good old Kingston is trying a different approach this time. They're flying a white flag, so I won't attack them...yet. Let's go see what they want. Rally the men!"

Daniel ran back to the tavern, which he had left only minutes before. Thank the gods

IC: Lute noticed a new flag atop the ships she was leading. She sighed; the Admiral would be better off leading with his ship then have her yacht speed about and leading them. It was impractical. The sigal notioned for her ship to change course to a considerable degree.
They want to go to Isla Leona? What an odd surprise.
So she turned the ship, curious on why such action was needed.

OOC: Ok, I need to talk about ships now, because I was not able to place it into there... bleh.gif

Lute's ship is named the Vitesse de l'étalon; French for the Speed of the Stallion.
The second ship is the 136 gun Ship-of-the-line Navy Flagship, Which Kingston commands from. It's a command ship. It's name is the Rigwald, the name of a fort in Alesia.
The second is the Continental, a 52 gun Frigate.
They both fled the disasterous battle. The enemy continued to pound the crippled fleet, and those were the only two the survived. They are both moderately battle scarred; the Rigwald's topgallant mast was blown off, replaced, and blown off again, and the side of the Continetal was considerably burnt.

Ok, ok, too much rambling!
