I would go for the second one. It has a better graphics card, comes with windows 64-bit, more RAM and has more hard drive space.

It will be okay for games like Runescape and GTA Vice City, but if you want to play new games like Call of Duty, GTA IV or Crysis, then you should really think about getting a desktop as those laptops will not be able to run them.

If you can, get a quad core or even an i7 processor. The dual cores are already 2-3 years old and will not be able to play the more demanding games. You should also think about upgrading the graphics card if you want to play the latest games, get at least a 8600GT - 9600GT or if you can afford it, a 9800GTX.

Hope I helped happy.gif

I'm sorry, but you are utterly wrong on the dual core part. Yes they have been out 2-3 years but gaming technology is ahead of games.... Take COD:WaW for example, JUST been released. Needs a P4 3.0ghz processor. Now, even if someone comes along and revolutionises the games industry with great games that need more power, you really think that they will need a 2.5ghz dual core to play?

Besides, I highly doubt that an i7 processor will be appearing in any laptop for $1500 anytime soon, by the time they are cheap enough to buy it'll be 2012 and something else will havee popped out, making i7 obsolete. I doubt that in the next 3-5 years games will need a quad core processor (something better for multi tasking not gaming anyway).

I would agree on the GFX card part though, if anything games will need a 1gb GFX card sooner than they will a quad core rolleyes.gif

That's the minimum specs, not necessarily the best thing to have for playing games, Chris try pick out something with a decent dual core, and 2+gb ram with vista and a decent - good video card, youll be set

I think it would do a bit better than either of those two. It has twice as much dedicated Memory, but a little less RAM.

And, it can be used for a lot of other non-gaming things as well. It has 1080p resolution, which is great for watching Blu-Ray, which it has in the system.

The 9600m gt is about half as powerful as the 9800m gs. wink.gif

I don't think the laptop moniter can support 1080p but probably 720p but will still look amazing, either one of the two posted above would be awesome, but i must remind you guys, chris lives in canada like myself tongue.gif, I dont think newegg.ca has these products on it yet

Yes, but yours is 250$ more expensive, doesn't look as good, lacks a Blu-ray drive. tongue.gif

And it looks like it's off to somewhere else to find this laptop for you. tongue.gif Newegg Canada laptops are like all Asus. tongue.gif

And I just noticed the topic is "Which dell laptop..."

Sorry, but I don't think you'll find a good dell laptop that's good at gaming without spending a small fortune.

Yep that particular laptop is full 1080p look under the specs, even 14" laptops can support 1080p.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16834101166

the above would be a very solid gaming laptop. However "gaming laptops" aren't great, they lack battery life and get outdated quickly. a 9600m GT or 9800MGTS will suffice for a year or two of quality gaming, the 9600m GT will certainly no be a "gaming laptop" come next year.

also I have used my blu-ray drive twice to rip some blu-rays, can't say its all that useful.
Chris
It must either be one of those Dells (I can make some changes, check the site if you want) or a company that will let me pay monthly in Canada that will give me a better laptop.

Unless I want to wait a month, I cannot buy the laptop in a single payment.

I can probably put a GForce in the Studio but its not a Dell option, anyone know if I can replace it for that laptop model?

Wow, I'm blown away... I never knew moniters that small could support 1080p resolutions ,I thought the lowest was like 21.6 tongue.gif, but then again at a moniter so small, whats the point?

I have a 13.1inch laptop with 1080p. tongue.gif

And Chris, you can't replace Laptop GFX Cards, so you'll have to get the one you want in your configuration.

I belive Dell owns Alienware, so you should be able to order one of those.

http://www.alienware.com/customize/M17-not...ode=SKU-DEFAULT
Try the 4gb memory, 250gb hard drive, a/b/g/n wireless card. However, the Cpu is only 2ghz. sad.gif It comes out to be $1699 or $51 per month(in USD).
Edit: And add 143 USD for shipping. bleh.gif

However, Alienware laptops are bulky and heavy, so it's not like super portable at 10 pounds. tongue.gif

So, I think you're going to have to go with the Dell XPS model you have. It's better than the Studio, and plus, I couldn't find any better configurations for the studio.

1080p is just 1900x"1080" resolution it serves its purposes, it gives you a lot more desktop room which is useful when you want to have more things on the screen at once. Its not always about the movies smile.gif since 1080p on a 13.3in laptop wouldn't display movies with any notable quality increase smile.gif
