Well, I need a new cell phone, so what do you guys recommend?

I would appreciate it if the phone itself were under $60, and the phone is supported by a major carrier. I'll take a look at plans myself.

Pay as you go or contract? Usually you get free phones on a contract, the quality of which depends on how much you pay per month.

Well, I prefer contract, but if there's a nice pay-on-the-go phone you see, it would be really great if you post that as well.

Edit: I forgot to mention, it would be cool if was a "popular" phone. And, it MUST have built-in IM.

How much per month? If you paid something like £30 then O2 would give you a free iPhone. But i think they give you a Tocco for a lot less.
