What do you guys think about this computer build? Bob helped me find all of it, except for the case and PS, which I changed from the original to save money. Keep in mind that this is a budget computer, and I only have 450 dollars or so to spend.

ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 64 Pro 92mm CPU Cooler

In total it is about $330 with mail-in rebates, and I already have an OS and Peripherals. The only thing I'm worried about is the case, which I'm not too sure on the size, and the PS, which I'm afraid is too low. Also, I'm a computer noob, so if you see something wrong with it, can you explain in a noob-friendly way? bleh.gif

Thanks,

I don't see why you didn't upgrade to 4GB of RAM. If you're using Vista HP 64, which Bob will probably recommend to you, then it is crucial to have at least 3GB of RAM, or 4GB of RAM if you want to run the operating system smoothly. 4GB of RAM is only about $10 more than 2GB of RAM, so you won't be spending lots of money upgrading. Anyways, I didn't see what processor you are using...

Woops, meant to put 2x Rendition by Crucial 2GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Desktop Memory

Oh, the case I was recommended to included a free processor, which was an AMD Athlon X2 BE-2300. There are two models on the site, which should I get? Model ADH2300DOBOX or model ADH2300IAA5DO? I'd rather buy them separately and get the case I want though. Is the wattage on the PS too low though?

Other than a few trip ups I've ran vista 64-bit just fine with 2GB. If you you can spare the money, get 4GB, but it's definitely not necessary.

I have enough money to buy the extra RAM, so it isn't that big of a deal. More can't hurt, can it? tongue.gif

I wouldn't say that the model necessarily matters, as both processors are probably the same, but...

As for the power supply, I'm worried if it is too low to run the Radeon HD 4830. I think it'll run it, though. Why don't you take a look at the power consumption of all of your computer parts just to make sure you don't overuse your 430W? But if I were you, I would just take a 500W.

Would a 500w be enough though?... I guess I'll double check that then. How can I check the power consumption quickly?

EDIT: Found a 600w PS. I'm assuming this is enough, but is it compatible?

The 500W, in my opinion, is a "safe" option to handle all the parts. A 430W, as far as I'm aware, aren't typically for (budget) gaming rigs.

Anyways, yeah, the 600W is compatible. Make sure it has good reviews, though. NEVER cheap out on a power supply.
Valefor72
Yeah, 78% of the reviews are 5 stars, and the rest are 3 or 4. So, everything checks out ok? My Dad is still making me have his friend take a look at it too.

Thanks guys.

A 430W unit would be fine. THis wouldn't be a high-draw rig. Even most Enthusiast rigs don't require more than 400W under load. Anyways--one of the reasons I recommended the Sonana III + EA500 + Athlon X2 combo was it's $150 and upgradable. It's nearly impossible to tell if the EA500 they include is a Delta or a Seasonic unit (I would hope Seasonic, but Delta also made some). Anyways--$50 of the price was the EA500, $40 of the price was a decent chassis, and $30 of the price was the Athlon X2. Don't forget to include the OS though.
Valefor72
Oh, well, I could just use that combo. The only reason I didn't choose that was because I preferred the looks of my choice. bleh.gif

Man, that side panel window is awesome, but if it is a better deal to get yours, I'll do it.

Thanks.

Keep in mind that side panel windows, although they may look awesome at first glance, can become pain-in-the-necks when you have to deal with them for a period of time. It becomes "old" after a while, and the lights just become annoying. tongue.gif
