Full Version: How Will Mechscape Affect Runescape?

Recently on google I've read about Jagex's new mmo and I began to wonder, "How will this affect RuneScape?".
Does anyone know if RuneScape developers/customer support are being transferred? And is there the possibility they'll shut RuneScape down?
Hawk
Simple's post in this topic sums up your question very nicely.

Will the release of the new game affect RuneScape development, updates, team or future?

No, never. The game has had its own dedicated team for years now, totally independent from RuneScape. Once it is launched, the current team might expand with new talent to take care of the game's updates, but again not overlapping or affecting RuneScape in any shape or form. If anything, RuneScape has and will continue to benefit from the development of the new title: some of the novel features recently implemented in RS are a result of technology improvements triggered by the development of the new game.

It might be an extra advertisement for RS, so perhaps more are going to play it.
In the beginning, alot of the MechScapers will be Runescapers.

The one thing I'd hate to find out is what is going to happen ingame. If a whole lot of players suddenly quit RS and then join MS, selling all their items in the process, what would happen to the prices? sad.gif

They should go down, but why'd they sell their stuff?
Emo_Nemo
The new ceo has said RS will never die and will continue to be updated as much as it is now

There are around 8M players in RS. A lot of them will quit and play MS (the majority will probably be F2Pers) and none would sell their stuff if they weren't planning on coming back? I highly doubt that. I'd guess around 30% of people converting to MechScape would sell their stuff, which will be a large amount of players.

Like FunOrb, Jagex will most likely have a separate team assigned to MechScape related items. It shouldn't interfere with RuneScape update-wise. Now player-wise, like all new games (relatively good new games at least) people's curiosity will get the best of them and they will try it out, which will clear out some RuneScape servers for a little while anyway. Things should be fine.

Most people don't consider MMORPGs a job that you can only have one of at a time. Most.

People will try Mechscape but it won't be for everyone.

On the day of launch, I'd expect RS worlds to be near empty as everyone tries out the new game. Then they'll gradually refill.
I'm also expecting most wilderness-related retired players to give mechscape a try. So yeah. RS won't die, it will just be very, very quiet for a couple of days.

I'm going to try it but not start writing guide for mechtopia till it dies down a litte. Get the feel for it and then back to runescape while everyone play mechscape.

My question is
is there going to be member?
Is there going to be f2p?
Do we use are runescape names?

My question is
is there going to be member? - FunOrb and Runescape are. I highly doubt Jagex would release material if they can't so much as break-even on it. I expect it will first be released as a Beta, so only free content is available for people to try.
Is there going to be f2p? - That's the question. There will almost certainly be a subscription for additional content, but it would be unlike Jagex not to give out some free content too.
Do we use are runescape names? - Like it was stated in another thread, you can use your Runescape account to play Funorb games, so chances are your Runescape account can be used for all Jagex games. That doesn't mean you have to use it for Mechscape though... You could make another one. wink.gif

I have a feeling that I won't like MechScape, just a gut feeling I have tongue.gif
Also when it first starts, it will lag way to much, so I will probs wait a few weeks before properly trying it, so I know I will keep playing RuneScape for longer.
But RuneScape won't have any of its staff transferred over to MechScape, that has already been confirmed, but I reckon There will be a lot less people on RS, even months after it is released.
