No you can not go back to the old one. Just give it time.

I haven't tried any version later than WLM version 2008(8.5), but have you tried uninstalling it in your Control Panel and then downloading version 2008 from here?

I just checked some screenshots and I don't like the looks of version 2009 either.

I agree, it's trying to be facebook when all I want from MSN is IM. That and I'm paranoid - after seeing at least 4 people give their last name out by accident with the thing I'm not impressed.

I don't see the problem. Plus, you don't have to install the whole Live package. You can also seperately install MSN. Yes, it's new. New = bad? Damn, give it some time. Don't be one of those 'old is best' freaks that can't adapt to a few small changes.
