Neo Avatars
Apr 2 2009, 10:46 AM
The new line of Development Diaries continues today with the release of another diary:
Dungeon Maps. Whereas last week's diary talked about the design of a storyline and its characters, this Dungeon Maps project largely consists of technical challenges. Today's diary, therefore, focuses on the technical work involved in creating this update.
It takes a long time to get even a simple project from initial concept to release. As we make progress on the projects for which we've released diaries, we plan to update the existing diaries to keep you informed of what's going on, in addition to releasing new diaries about other projects. We're also planning to have articles from other departments in the future, such as Graphics and QA. So, while the new development diaries are shorter than the old-style ones, they will be released more often.

I may as well post the list of maps that we're planning to launch:

Sounds cool. I'm starting to like these little tweaks and additions a lot.

I thought there already was a dungeon map.

*Neo Avatars hopes that as well as being able to hide the 'You are here' thing, you'll be able to choose to hide either the place names and icons either individually or together...Also, Mod Marx0i0 has a slightly... 'different' choice of name.

Well so much for those development diaries that don't make them look like they don't know what they're doing.
QUOTE
The unusual thing about RuneScape is that it's a Java game developed by people who don't use Java. Andrew created a scripting language (“RuneScript”) for Content Developers to use. His compiler turns the script into Java code. That's really great for my team, since it means we can create the content we design without needing to delve into the Java, but it also means we can't do things that RuneScript doesn't currently support.
Java gaming experts that don't know a lick of Java. Excellent.

We need the dungeon maps! Makes it annoying going into places like zanaris.

Yay, guess now I'll get lost a lot less. Too often i lose myself in dungeons and wander aimlessly for eons.

It's a good idea, but it will take some time. I understand what they are talking about. It will be very complicated to show different dungeon's that have multiple levels

Only if there's an option to hide the annoying ugly text that appears for place and monster names, otherwise there's still work in removing that.

F2P can still have fun with the map, and you need it for dungeons like Varrock's, Edgeville's, etc. for narbs.

I agree with Desy, it'll make mapping the dungeons a million times easier.

enough of this, lets talk about the easter event
im hoping for a reward we can get an easter crossbow that fires easter eggs or carrots at people
and easter egg shot at someone would result as the person turning into a chicken for a couple of seconds or transform them into a egg and the carrot shot at someone would result them turning orange with all their items equipped or either they would transform into a rabbit for as long as they want (note you can walk around as either transformation and plus you can choose which special ammunition you would like for the crossbow, you can change it from diango, if you lose the crossbow you go to diango and click it then he will ask which ammunition you would like either carrots or eggs and then which special for any annumition you would like and then you have it and also includes a sniping thing that lets you see far away and lets you snipe people, causes 0 damage)
or either a carrot that you hold and can let you transform into a rabbit, not a normal rabbit, youre exactly the same as the easter bunny, not on four legs, pink, and bit taller than you usally are
and for the emote no idea

I agree with Neo- It's a great update, but you need to be able to hide text and POI's, otherwise it'll be hard to see everything.
