I use Hypercam 2 (Because It's free, and easy to use) and Windows Movie Maker (Again, it is free and even easier to use). I don't make anything flashy and can't afford to buy something like Vegas or Camatasia.

i have hypercam and camtasia, i use hypercam cause the videos are alot smaller size
camtasia has a higher frame rate so the files are like huge and to upload them you have to compress alot and you lose tons of quality
i recorded this with hypercam and got pretty amazing quality when i uploaded

To record, I use Registered Hypercam 2, Camtasia, and registered Fraps. I edit, and save my videos with Sony Vegas 8. To be honest, there is no 'best' recorder, it all depends what you want to record. For example, I use fraps if I want to record in full screen, and Camtasia when I'm just playing in low or high detail. So the answer, for me, would be Fraps + Camtasia for recording, and Sony Vegas 8 for editing, and saving videos.

Camtasia and Fraps for capturing. Sony Vegas or iMovie for editing.
Fraps is best, with Camtasia up there, as both give good quality, although they both cost money. Hypercam 2 is best, since it gives ok quality and is free.

I use Camtasia for both.
