Full Version: Should I Get A Shuffle?
Sal's RuneScape Forum > Everything... Not RuneScape > Tech Talk > Tech Discussion

Hey guys! I am asking you if I should get an iPod shuffle 3rd Gen. I do already have a 1 gig PSP 3000 but I am poor so I do not have earphones. Ya I know, I do need earphones but if I get an iPod then they will be free! Thanks.
Bob-sama
But you'll be paying $80 for a pair of crappy iBuds. Why not just buy headphones/earbuds?
LP Forever
the earbuds that an iPod come with are actually pretty good quality but if your like me you'll start wanting music videos and podcasts and movies and you'll run out of room on your ipod. my suggestion: get something more than a 2+ GB shuffle. i have an 8 GB nano and i still need more room.
Fencefry
If you don't mind the size of the PSP, buy a $30 4 gig memory card from Walmart, and a $5 pair of earbuds (Same quality as Apple), and you save like $20.
RS4Ever
Thanks for the comments. I am gonna think about it. Also, the 3rd gen is 4 gigs. The big problem is that I can never walk with my psp in my pocket, no that it even fits in my pocket.

Hey dude, check out my iPhone?

iPhone? Pfft, my shuffle doesn't have a screen. cool.gif

The shuffle is really only good if you go on runs, because you can clip it to your shirt.

Eh just buy new headphones.

Personally I would eat rock salt before I bought another "iPod"

The Nano is actually a pretty sweet player for this generation. I have a Nano 16GB with my name engraved on it. I turned off the shake-to-shuffle thing though.

I went into the Apple Store yesterday, and although I've generally heard only negative feedback, I actually think they're quite an improvement... The fact that you actually know the song is an advantage, and that you can control it from the headphones, which is easier when you're on the go...

I'd get a new shuffle If I were you :-) PSPs are just too impractical in my opinion.

Zune's start at $100 with 8 gigs and you can have videos on them. Far better choice imo.

You could go for the $150 nano with 8GBs, 2GB second gen shuffle for $60. http://store.apple.com/us/product/FB683LL/A?mco=MjE0NTU0MQ

I don't know why Zune's have such a bad rep. They're as good as ipods but people look down upon them just because its not an ipod.

Haven't bought it yet, found this http://go.shopsansa.com/content/clip What do you think? 8 gig one. Or maybe 4.

See there are far better mp3 players than a shuffle for relatively cheap. But Zune's have more support for things like games so I recommend getting one of those.

Zune is ew. D:

But get something like a nano instead of the shuffle. If you lose the headphones, then the thing's a paperweight.
-REAP-
Buy earbuds online(better) or in a store and get another MP3 player. Seriously, the shuffle is too expensive for such a crappy MP3 player.
Falcon
I would most definitely go with a Nano myself, they really made the new shuffle bad by making it button free and forcing you to use the one type of headphone in order to operate it and if you break them, you have to buy new ones of the same type that cost just a little under the iPod itself.
RS4Ever
Arg, I feel like a zune now. I kind of feel that iPod is a crappy overpriced "hyped up" mp3 player.
Bcloutier
Only get a Zune if you want them to brick on New Years Eve. <3 They're great for that.

I'd say to get a 4GB Nano if you really want an iPod - only $30/40 more than the Shuffle. If you just want the headphones, pick them up for $35 I believe from wherever you can get iPods from.

iPods > Zunes. Compatibility of iPods is much higher than Zunes.

If you're stuck on a Shuffle, get the last-generation model so you have buttons. tongue.gif

Lol, you're poor, but you will be able to spend $80 on an iPod Shuffle? Don't buy the Shuffle instead buy headphones for your PSP; It's better to carry all of your media on one device.

Depends on the quality of the music files. I most of my music is above cd-quality.

You also might want to look at this: $90 with stuff like voice recording and FM radio iPod doesn't have, plus it's only $10 more than a shuffle. (Creative is very reliable too, I have 3 of their mp3 players in my house).

That was really a low blow xP

There is nothing wrong with the Zune.

The Zune for the same price offers more then iPod you can't deny that.

And compatibility is not a huge issue anyways as both of the players software convert the files anyways

Apple to AAC and Zune to whatever they convert it to.

There's nothing wrong with a Zune, but an iPod is just.. Better.

Since most people use iTunes, it is simpler to get an iPod. Keeps everything together. Plus I can't even use a Zune on my MacBook.

iPod > Zune, in my opinion. Some others will differ. iPod just has the best UI of any media player.

You know, I haven't seen a Zune in my whole life. Ever. Has it even reached Europe yet?

Oh, wait, it's planning to be released in France this year.

But if it was so amazingly amazing and cheap, you'd think somebody would've imported it from America.

EDIT: Anyway, I have a Touch, and I watch videos more than I listen to music. If you're a music man, get the shuffle, if you're a video person, get another iPod. Preferably a Touch, since it has the largest screen, or get a Classic if you want. Nano if you're really desperate. Or you can get the sound from your film and add it to your Shuffle as an MP3. Or just get a 'Zu-u-n-ee'
King Aragorn
There is no "best" musicplayer, and remember that compatibilty isnt a big problem when most sound is in mp3.
So, the best musicplayer would be one that fits your needs.
But the worst ones are those without color-screen, they often have crappy sound-quality, and cant be turned over maximum on big headphones...
Because it was amde for being just a little cheapy.
But what do you actually need?
Good space?
Design?
You shouldnt buy something just because someone says "its popular, and people say its good"
Everyone says that what they have, is da bezt..
But then it means they havent tried the others, and just stuck with the current.
Now i try to stay as neutral as possible, just so you know, you choose what you like.

Pfft, I know nobody with a Zune, and when I was talking to someone at Future Shop they said they sell one Zune per 50 iPods, at the max. tongue.gif

I have my Touch, too, and use it to listen to music mostly. I also love the web and Apps on it. Although I have looked at getting a Classic so I can drop most of my media on it (~100GB+ now :x). Decided against it for now, though. I couldn't go with just a Classic/Nano now. The Touch is just too much fun.

Get an iPod Nano 4GB if you can; they're the cheapest and for you, the best.
