What is the best antivirus I can get free or not free, I don't care.

The best free ones are probably avast! and AVG Free.

Avast, Avira, and AVG (all start with A lolwut?) are the top three. I don't think Avira includes antispyware, but the other two do. I personally use AVG, but my dad uses Avira and he likes it. I know lots of people who like Avast.

And then for extra spyware protection, SUPERantispyware is a great choice.

a good antivirus that i know of that hasn't been mentioned yet isn't free. McAfee. it's good but last time i got a bad trojan it wasn't so keen on actually getting rid of it but the other two times i've gotten one it has quarantined it instantly.

Mcafee is a waste of money. It scans at a slow rate, doesn't pick up a lot of traces, and those it does find, it has trouble removing. Stay away from anything Mcafee or Norton/Symantec. Stick with AVG 8.5 Free and you'll be fine.

Yes, as Agent F said, stay away from those. Norton never goes away. You can uninstall it, but it will still be there. I've tried to get rid of it 6 times on my grand,as computer. no luck... Try AVG, or Avast!

I use avast! and i am pretty happy with it, when i need to scan fast.
Well.. my system is at over a million files, but its 50 times better than Norton.
Free ones are actually much better than bought ones.
Isnt it strange?
Though, there is a version of avast! you can buy, the Professional version, dont know if it has more features or effectivity.
AVG and avast! are the ones said to detect most of things.
You would need Ad-aware and Spybot S&D too.
That would covers most things.
