Right, there's one thing that's been at the top of my head for ages.
It's the little tags above your member group (the thing you can change if you're DM+.)

Are they just random or what? Why are they there? What's the point of them?

They don't really serve much purpose (it saying one particular thing wont change your abilities, assuming you're a forum member), but it's just one of those things that doesn't affect much but is nice to have and to see go up.

Thats like saying why usernames are there? Why isn't Salmoneus called number 1 and everyone else number 20000 or whatever.

They are purely cosmetic and nothing else. It adds a little more Runescape flavor to the forums. The custom ones like mine are that of the DM+. Former-Mods, -DMs, and -TS can no longer change ours. As for why the post ranks don't seem to be in any specific order, that is because they weren't all added at once. Instead of reordering them to fit a specific sorting order, the second batch was just added on top of the first.

Agent F hit the nail there, its just for fun, kinda like Runescape, its a game! It just makes the forum more Runescape related.
