XP = Windows 7

In terms of gaming I think Windows 7 may even perform better in gaming and you also get DirectX 11 with it assuming you have a card that supports DX10 or above

Well I don't know if my card can because I have an nvidia 8400gs

The 8400 only supports DirectX 9 i think...

What, me? I don't have one aware.gif

A GeForce 8400 supports DirectX 10, but I don't recommend using it. Anyways--Windows 7 32-bit would be similar in performance to Windows XP. You'd probably have a bit better performance with Windows 7, though, as RAM is better managed. The big difference is seen when you go to 4+GB on Windows 7 64-bit, though there's still a real performance boost with 2-3._GB. Below 2GB I wouldn't recommend using SuperFetch, as you don't have enough overall. You're on a laptop, correct? If it came with Windows XP, stay with Windows XP for now.

my laptop came with windows vista but that got unistalled so i just put windows 7 on it. I have a windows xp cd lying around so i just wanted to know so i guess ill stick with windows 7

Woa, woa woa...

It got uninstalled? Aren't you that guy who we told to put it on a partition and you didn't? You do realize the Beta finishes at the end of this month right?

Windows 7 is worse in pretty much all of those tests but so little that it's unnoticeable and the final version will be a lot better anyway.

You do realise it doesn't right?

It's meant to expire 07/2009, not 04. That's what msconfig\winver.exe tells me, anyway.

To the topic at hand, imo, (BSODing about once a day, though I am pushing it) W7 is a little bit unreliable atm, which is to be expected. If you don't mind the very slim possibility of it happening while gaming, then stick with 7 until the beta ends.

I run windows 7 and have for 2 months (on my laptop I did anyway) and it didnt crash one time, it probably didnt like your hardware.
The 8400 runs DX10 (I have the mobile version on my laptop, and its DX10) and if you are fine with windows 7 at the moment, then just keep it IMO, but make sure you know that it ends at the end of july/beginning of august and you will have to go back to Xp/Vista
