Why doesn't everyone become a strength pure? What is the point of training defense if you will just get destroyed in PvP worlds?
Foxy Pablo
because some of us like skilling instead of dying and losing our stuffs in pvp
zuldro
But is it possible for someone who trains defense to be successful in PvP?

actually yes.

I don't do a whole lot of "un-safe" pvp (as in you lose your items). When it comes to combat, I fight monsters. And you know what I get as drops to sell to people who do pvp? Some of the weapons or armour they may use. Pvp worlds are just another way to play the game, more like it used to be too. Plus, maybe they just want to try to skill on pvp worlds so they build up that risk-meter or whatever. So in that case some defense in-case they are attacked would be nice. Either way, not everyone has to play the same way, and a high defence does help in battle.

I PK with 63 Defence and Pked corrupt smile.gif
My brother PK's with 53 and Pked Corrupt smile.gif
It's skill and strategy.

Strength pures being so powerful in PvP is a flaw in the PvP combat system that I assume will be fixed in the future making strength pures equal to everybody else. The strategy shouldn't be in making a cookie cutter.

At least I hope so, I like to quest in PvP worlds, and my idea of perfection is if PKing is not done as chaotically as it is now. PvPing would morph into something that allows exciting forms of player interaction.

I honestly don't see how someone without defence could be all that powerfull, but I don't normally pk, so shows how much I know.

As you probably weren't thinking when you made this topic, there are way more types of pures than just a f2p str pure with 40 att and 70 str. Here, i'll map out all the pures with defense that are successful:
Range tanks: pretty much owning everyone out there, even gsers. They tend to have 90+ range, 70+ defence, and 94 mage for veng.
Zerker pures: pretty much a str pure with 45 defense, they usually have 90+ str and sometimes have godswords.
Barrow pures: a very good account imo, it can do anything a main can do since it has 75 att 90+ str 75 defense, with some range and mage in there for hp.
Initiate and Prosylyte pures: Uses initiate or proselyte as armor, usually has 52 prayer like a zerker and maintains high str+att while keeping defense below 30, occasionally they use godswords, although most stick to whips.
White/Black pures: as close to a stereotypical pure as you can get, has 10 defense for black and usually in members' cases, white armor. They tend to have 99 mage range str hp and 60 att, although they also use godswords.
Obby tanks: 70+ def tanks with 1-20 att and 90+ str. One of the most hard to train pures, but since they use obby mauls they can hit in the high 40's with their maul and in the low 30's with their slayer staff.

As you can see, these pures are very formidable and TOTALLY OWN 1 def pures, with range tanks and barrow pures being the ones owning mains easily every day. happy.gif

Look, Defence does matter, go to a pvp world with 99 Defence VS Dragon Claws.
Claws WILL fail.
Go to a pvp world with 1 Defence vs Dragon Claws.
GF Pure.

That's why.

The reason strength pures are so effective in the lower levels:

-Say you are level 40, pure, and can hit 22s.
-The Average hp for level 40 is about 45-55 (I think).

This means you can hit for massive portions of hp without needing heavy weapons like high levels do. The downside is you get owned when faced with strong armor.

In the end, balanced is better.

I believe my pure being 60/80/20 and 60/80/1 would only make a 3 combat level difference. Those 3 levels are not much, yet the 20 levels and mithril armour should help quiet a bit against someone who has no defence at all.

I don't know, if everyone became a strength pure then where would we get our lovely godswords and other items form bosses?
adrenalsky
my str pure with 20atk-def and 48str pwns
nilesh
WOW! i just relised how many people hated def? its better to have all your skills balanced. But i have one account i just train def and range and it owns big time! Now there's a person who doesn't need str laugh.gif

I have a defence pure:
60 attack and defence with 40 strength
and I can honestly tell you that i will the majority of my fights in PVP.

Defence > Strength.

Also go Godwars or Dagganoth Kings with low defence and see what happens wink.gif

Yeah but max hit with ddp special?12-12?Let's see how many people you ko with that setup. In pvp it doesn't matter if you own your enemy it matters if you ko em.What good will a pure that owns, wastes food yet never kos do rather than a pure who own most of the times, hits pretty high, specs accurately, wastes food yet manages to get kills?
N1ceDreamz
Erm... some people don't even go near pvp worlds so having a pure for a main would be useless, you would get owned at any dangerous locations/doing certian activitys where many people become instantly rich. Such as during lvl 3 tresure trails, GWD and at the king black dragon. So pures can't win in every single front.

I rarely get hit by the strength pures and I still manage to "ko" players, use i hit low, but i hit constant and I don't get hit in return. And you would be suprised at the amount of people I have koed because they think like you, I mustn't hit well so they can't eat as much. Thats when you use the ddp spec which is always a good combo.
Touchstone61
I don't pvp anymore but i was quite successful, even in f2p but that comes down to luck. although seriously the days of the str pure are gone I plan on getting much more defense but i haven't trained combat in like 8 months.
sharky
I pwn Str pures in mini-games and things because my special attack with ddp rips them to shreds i think balanced account is best str pures are too vulnerable to special attacks and if you have dragon claws say good bye pure
greed378
The thing is Somone with 99 strength has 1 advantage but many disadvantages.
Yes they can Hit high but they hit rarely and could Hit higher with better weapons through attack and also take masive damage due to little armor and defense meaning they also get hit more often.
Also in non-pvp strength pures have little if any abiltity in pve (player-versus-eviorment)
douglas11
I am a strength pure and I love it.
Zindu
Most people prefer PvP and PvE instead of strictly PvP, and 1 def doesnt do anything in PvE, hence the reason people make pures and have a main
oilersrule17
Pures are overrated
