Full Version: What Is Mechscape?

Maybe you've just come into this part of the forum and is thinking, what the heck is Mechscape? Well, I've got your answers for you.

Mechscape is a online MMORPG, or say, will be, by Jagex. Jagex still are discussing whether to have the name 'Mechscape' as their new game, or 'Stellar Dawn'. This is because Mech is used in way too many other games, such as MechQuest. Things would get muddled up and cause confusion. Did I mention it hasn't been released yet? Ah, yes. Jagex won't release it until it's awesome and perfect, which it isn't yet, and they predict it will be out sometime this Spring (or Autumn for us down-unders biggrin.gif). No promises though, you've seen Jagex late before in Runescape tongue.gif .

You might be thinking, another awesome MMORPG by Jagex, like Runescape? No. Jagex's motto is 'Not Runescape in Space'. And yes, it is in space. Mechscape (or Stellar Dawn!) will be in the future on some other far-away planet, nowhere near our home, Earth. Yes, that means robots and other hi-tech creatures. Speaking of creatures, there will be around 4 different races to choose from to be your character! The 2 confirmed creatures are Humans and Pliigi. As for Mortiga, it is not guaranteed that it will be in Mechscape. Pliigi in Esperanto means 'to increase', while Mortiga in Esperanto means 'to kill'. So, if you're into deadly slaughtering, your first choice could be the Mortiga biggrin.gif

Most of you have met the Lava Harvester in one of its photos. Well, that confirms that there will be flying objects, no promise for transport. The landscape in Mechscape will be, well, nobody except sneaky ol' Jagex knows yet, but they have provided us with a fantastic picture of, suppose Varrock in Mechscape! I'm still wondering what the blue glowing thing is on the top left-hand corner of the picture. This picture says so many things about Mechscape, it'll take me days to describe!

Q&A

Will Mechscape be awesome?
Yes biggrin.gif

Is it worth quitting Runescape to get into Mechscape?
Why not play both?

Will there be a freeplay world?
Jagex:

MechScape will use the same subscription model as RuneScape, with some content provided for free but "deeper content" requiring a monthly fee.

Which means Jagex will have a freeplay world, although the beta will be only available for Runescape members.

Is it aimed at an older audience than Runescape? Which means less filtering in chat?
Adam Tuckwell(Jagex):

We have designed the game so that it will appeal to everyone who is interested in Science Fiction. We believe that the content will appeal to an older demographic but as the game is a truly online game it is not necessary for it to be rated.

That's a yes biggrin.gif

Thanks for reading.

P.S. Big sloppy kisses and bear hugs to Mechscape World and Ren for the pictures and some information wub.gif . Credits goes to everybody who helped too smile.gif

If you look for some topics in this part of the forum, you will see some Mechscape Beta stuff.

The confirmed are Humans, Pliigi, Mortiga and another unknown creature.

I thought the only confirmed one was the Pliigi, others just being interpretations from images.

9. It is a non-linear planet-based game which focusses around four distinct races, one of which is the Pliigi. Humans and Mortiga are also mentioned in concept art, but are not confirmed.

No, there will not, although, Runescape members will be able to access the Mechscape Beta when it comes out.

If it uses the same subscription model as RuneScape, doesn't that mean there will be a free-play version of the game? unsure.gif

8) Will the Beta Launch be free or will only paying members be allowed to enter the game, in the Beta?
Adam: We have a number of valued subscribers who have been loyal to Jagex and it is only right that we thank them. Current subscribers will be given access to the Beta and it will be free to play.

It will be 13+, like Runescape, although nobody really pays attention to that. Let's hope Mechscape will be a little more mature.

Yes.
3) While MechScape is aimed at an older audience it is still appropriate for younger players. Have you ever consider it having rated content or the possibility of disabling the chat filter?
Adam: We have designed the game so that it will appeal to everyone who is interested in Science Fiction. We believe that the content will appeal to an older demographic but as the game is a truly online game it is not necessary for it to be rated.

Assuming you're talking about this image...

The main coloured picture in that seems to just be a 'Land Vehicle' (used in a Tutorial of some sort). The Pliigi seems to just be the quick sketch towards the bottom-right with an arrow pointing at it titled "PLIIGI DUDE" - not exactly detailed enough to gain much info about characteristics. A similar sketch crops up in this image.

Oh my god. Look at the differences in height between the human and the creatures.

They will definitely fill up our screen tongue.gif
