I have stumbled upon this program known as "FRAPS". It is a program that can take snapshots and auto-save them in different formats, make recordings for any game (detects and records the game screen only), and can take benchmarks as well as record frames per second in real time on a specified corner of the game overlay.

I was wondering if it would be worth it to pay $37 via paypal to get a registered account (so I can fully use the program to its fullest extent). The price seems a bit discouraging, but the recording quality is great! You can configure the rate of frames it records at and even has its own audio detection and recording as well as an option to disable the cursor in the recording.

I have tried other programs, but they bog down the computer too much. With this program, the strain on the computer is significantly less and was thinking about getting it for my 99 Smithing/Mining party and using it to make recordings of other gameplay such as Urban Terror.

I would like to hear your feedback and is much appreciated. biggrin.gif

I've heard good things about it. I guess I'll download it now and try it out, see how well it runs on a lowend machine.

Doesn't xfire record videos, though?

I have a full version of Fraps, and its really awesome for recording stuff. I use it regularly for TF2, as it doesn't decrease FPS that much. I highly recommend it. That being said, if you only want for a 99 smithing/mining party, its probably better to go with something free like CamStudio or TipCam .

Hope this helps you make a choice.

Like I said, I am planning on using it for other games such as my precious Urban Terror. wub.gif

Thanks for the feedback though! thumbs.gif

If you think you are going to be doing alot of recording, then I 100% recommend Fraps. If you are only recording Urban Terror, then:

Avi recording

First record a demo (default key = f12), then play the demo and use /video and /stopvideo to record an avi. You can use cl_aviframerate to set the framerate and cl_aviMotionJpeg to choose uncompressed or mpjeg codec. It is recommended to use low resolutions when recording .avi's. Check out this thread as well.

I have Fraps on my computer and I find it VERY useful, especially for screenshots. No need for cropping, cutting, saving or anything, just press one key and it is automatically saved and cropped biggrin.gif.

Not sure about the $37 price tag though tongue.gif.

If you want it free, and dont care about a little watermark on top and just 30sec rec time, FRAPS is ok.
I have a program called BSR screen recorder, works generally good, but a resource hog.
Its free though. rolleyes.gif
Its alot of tools in it too. biggrin.gif
