Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty Jackalope was released today.

Productivity tools: Ubuntu supports all of your favourite web-based mail programs like Yahoo™ or Gmail ™. For the office, Evolution provides all the calendering, contacts and office email you need. Pidgin IM also puts you in instant touch with colleagues and integrates with your personal IM services simply and easily.

Browsing: Includes Mozilla's Firefox 3 as the default browser. Faster, safer and themed browsing for users.

Photos: Upload from your camera or phone to F-Spot and manage, tag, share and sort your photos and upload easily to your favourite social networking sites.

Music and video: Plug in your PSP, iPod, MP3 player; share playlists with your friends; buy in online music stores; visit your favourite sites like Last.fm, stream more live radio and content from the BBC and plug in more devices with uPnP (universal Plug and Play)

Office applications: Word processing, spreadsheets and presentations can all be delivered through OpenOffice.org 3.0 featuring in this release of Ubuntu for the first time. And, they completely integrate with the proprietary office applications out there. The big difference is that they are free.

Accessibility: At the core of the Ubuntu philosophy is the belief that computing is for everyone and access should be free and complete whatever your economic or physical circumstances. Ubuntu is one of the most accessible desktop operating systems around.

I'll probably go update later when I'm not doing homework. smile.gif

I updated to the Release Candidate last night, what a fail. D:

It is great, though. It supports my hardware way better than 8.10. The graphics are also beautiful. I'm about to go to update to the actual version, Hawk told me it's only a few mbs package. I am also thinking about doing a new install, but getting my software again will be boring.

Meh I wish they would change the GUI it pisses me off looking at it =P

Anyone know if this has better driver support for my intel gma4500? 8.1's wasn't good.

I don't know if they have better driver support for exactly that card, but they said they'd have way better support on gfx cards overall.

The support for my Nvidia card (can't remember the model) is way better. I was just messin' around with Compiz Fusion and I could do more efects than before. It was fun, I even crashed my computer. xd

I can do every effect with compiz fusion, even without a good driver. Only thing is that RSHD doesn't run and neither does HD/HQ youtube videos.

Tried having more than 20 active at a time? ;D
That's what messed me up.

I can do RSHD, but it kinda lags if I do it together with Youtube.

Updated right when I arrived home from school. I don't notice a difference, but I guess that is because I've been running the beta for the last week or two. tongue.gif I really like the notifications better. It came with some new themes, but I have yet to try them out.

Yea, you surely have to love the notifications. They're probably the best graphical update in this version. Oh, and the login screen is also neat.

Tomorrow or the day after I will be installing the latest ubuntu release. I haven't used linux in a month, but this looks like a good time to do it again.

I was just looking around the Ubuntu website a couple weeks ago and by now forgot about the new release coming up. Thanks for reminding me, Red. I'm downloading it now to do a fresh installation. thumbs.gif

Ok. When I get back to Florida, I'll do a clean install of Xubuntu 9.04. Thanky for reminding me about Jaunty.

Hehe, I still have my 7.04 CD. That was the first one I used. cute.png

I've been running Ubuntu 9.04 for a day now, and I've had no problems.

Ok, I'm updating right now. I'll see how it is when I'm done. biggrin.gif

The oldest I have is Ubuntu 5.10. Before that was CentOS...

Ok, it says I have no proprietary drivers installed. mellow.gif

Anyways, everything works, wireless, my mouse, touchpad, so I think I'm good. I can actually watch HD videos on youtube, which I couldn't do before. But now RSHD causes the whole computer to freeze when I try to play it. slanty.gif

What graphics card do you have?

Normally you can find the best driver going to Restricted Drivers in the Administration menu.
redmonke
Intel gma 4500. I'm going to go ahead and say it has officially the worst driver support of all time.
