Mod MMG said that Mechscape will be released 'when it is awesome. It is not awesome yet smile.gif' so it could come anytime really tongue.gif

It is already May 10th, 2009. I am getting too anxious for this release!

Someone said it could even be as late as October. Don't ask me where I got that, I lost the link, but I'll post it if I find it again...which I'll try to do, as I'm doing an article thing on whatever I can find about MechScape...

April-June. But, it's not necessarily going to be there either. Everyone at Jagex has said it will be released when it's ready to be released, and not before, thus, they have no even approximate release date, because even they don't know. Someone even said it could even be October or later.

Oh S**t, that's what the developers of Duke Nukem Forever said. Every. Single. Year.

I believe that there is no official release date of MechScape as of now. But I'm sure as we get closer to it, they will provide us with a set date in which they will release it. From what I know about MechScape and from the pictures of it that I've seen I can tell that I will most likely like playing that game.
Im a Ninja
I think it will come out in june if they have no tech problems.
nightpk
I'm just thinking how many glitches there is gonna be, I think a mechscape falador massacre is a possibility laugh.gif

I think not. That's why there's no set release date, and they're releasing a beta for RuneScape members before it actually comes out. And they've learned a lot from RuneScape that they can implement in there to prevent these things.
Eval Riz
They'll give us hints along the way, but as far as I know there's no set time to expect it.

I don't think so. They wouldn't even admit they were working on a new MMORPG until relatively recently. It took them even longer to admit it should be called MechScape. And now they're saying they want the pre-launch hype to be as low as they can possibly get it (probably to reduce stress on their developers and make a better quality game), so I doubt they will drop any hints about anything until the beta is actually released. At least not on the RuneScape websites...maybe in an interview, they've done that a couple times (maybe unintentionally), but not on the RuneScape website.
Kuraudo Sutoraifu
seriously, i just hope that even if mechscape doesn't get released, at least keep updating runescape smile.gif

haha, but i can't wait to see how mechscape will turn out to be to smile.gif
Gaia
I believe it is better like this, with no date launched, if not they would be acting under pressure. So untill they are very sure of it, they wont make a date release.

Originally they said late 2008. Then they moved it to late winter of 2009 or early spring of 2009. Then they changed it too supposedly "may 19th, 2009", but it still hasn't been released.

I doubt they said late 2008. They didn't even admit that they were working on a new game until late 2008. They did hint toward a Q1 2009 release (Q1 of the Jagex business year is April-June, I think), but this was never confirmed. The May 19th, 2009 was a faked screenshot. The real post made about the same time as the fake (And probably what caused the faker to make the image. Either that or a response to it, I didn't look at the posts before it.) said there was no release date.

i think you should delete the first question-april has passed xd.gif

i dont think i'll play mechscape. probably going to check it out but i've spent years building up my runescape character im not just going to drop her slanty.gif

It clearly isn't 'awesome' yet, as that is when Mod MMG states that it will be released tongue.gif
I wouldn't worry, with any hope it will be out soon...

I'm honestly disappointed. ;.;
But they're off on the update this week, so maybe there's a really slight chance? :\

No there isn't. MechScape and RuneScape have completely seperate development teams, so RuneScape update times will never be affected by updates with MechScape.

It might not even be 2009. Mark said in the 3rd interview they may want to add another thing new (He said they were planning on releasing it in 2006 and found something new to add. Then 2007 - something new. 2008 - You know it) But he did say it will most likely come out sometime in 2009. We can just keep our fingers crossed. ohmy.gif
iMonkey 99
I doubt they were planning to release MechScape in 2006.... that was still early in Runescape and so much had still yet to be developed...

As full mith said, we can just keep our fingers crossed smile.gif

I don't care anymore, really. It'll probably come out somewhere in 2010 when everybody has forgotten about it...

First Jagex said first quarter of 09. Then they just delayed. And they said that it would come out when it is awesome. But this interview topic is starting to spread through out the meschape fan sites saying that the game will be released very soon.
QUOTE
So Jagex is clearly do a number of things right. And it will be exciting to watch as the company's latest MMO tears up the internet later in 2009 (on which note, watch out for news on the forthcoming closed beta test for Jagex's 'codename Mechscape' right here on TechRadar very soon indeed).

That topic is even here on Sal's. (Topic here)

Didn't Jagex just have an ad or something where you could come to Cambridge and beta-test a game? That has to be MechScape. We'll know after someone tests it and it leaks out on the Internet tongue.gif

It may not be. And even if something is leaked out, it could be a fake leak to try and mislead people, as has already been done.

The ad said they wanted players to test an update. And Jagex has not really tried to mislead people regarding MechScape, not that can be proven anyway, but people have been mislead quite a few times by Jagex.

I think Gogs means a fake from someone who says they've been to Cambridge, not a fake from Jagex itself.
Daaru23
I do not play runescape anymore as you can see from my status, but I might be willing to play mechscape if it is less like runescape in the play more time to be good sence.

I first noticed mechscape sometime in April, when I thought it would come out in a couple weeks. I realize that many Jagex staff are fixing bugs and glitches so that nothing will happen to characters while online or offline. This is getting too long of a wait for people that want to play this game and the projected release date was Q1.

A bad launch is worse than releasing it a little later.

You may feel that way, but if they released it early and it was stock full of bugs, you would probably yell at Jagex for having a huge number of bugs in everything they release. I would like it if they released the beta and let us deal with the bugs, but it would probably be better for Jagex if they released it all in one near perfect release instead of playing catch-up for six months.

There's nothing wrong with a beta/theta/alpha of the game that's full of bugs - the point is to find and fix the bugs. In fact, I'd prefer that to just releasing it all when it's nearly perfect.

Actually, the way it's supposed to be done is that the developers find and destroy as many bugs as they possibly can during the alpha stage of testing. When they can't for the life of them find any more bugs, then it's released to so many people for beta testing. (Sometimes it's as little as a few friends, sometimes it's to the general public, sometimes in between...depends on the company.) I've done a lot of reading on programming, and every single thing I've ever read on testing has said the exact same thing.

Most online gaming companies have started skipping one or both phases of this testing to meet deadlines that were too short to begin with, and they end up taking twice as long to finally make the game bug free, probably because the hassles of updating a live game on around 150 different servers at about 20 locations around the world are immense compared to just deleting one file and copy/pasting a new one in its place on just one company server. (I know many companies don't have that many servers, but Jagex does, so there. tongue.gif )
