Has anyone noticed the sudden burst of new members ever since Jagex put up salmoneus.net as a fansite?

Not really, no. Still the same tbh tongue.gif
iSummon
Like in game or in Sal's? I've noticed Both actually, a lot of new people in members lately, could be the summoning tanks but I doubt, just a rush they put RS on like 5 different places, Facebook, I think myspace, etc...

I mean in Sal's. I've been seeing a lot of 'new members' and members with <50 posts much more lately.

I haven't noticed. Or maybe it's because of my timezone. What time is it usually crowded in Sal's?
error404
yeah i have noticed, but i don't think it has anything to do with jagex putting up the fan-site
however i have definitely noticed
Ledgendary
I've noticed alot. A big boost. And, there's hardly any people called "New Members" now.
Real
Had noticed it a little before now, but actually there has been quite a boost in numbers recently.
I think Sals has gradually become more and more popular (the amount of people that join each month or so is steadily rising, or so I see), and I guess this can only have been helped by us being recognised as a fansite - wonder if some of the other big names on that list have felt a similiar effect..?

Oohh dear, hopefully this won't come with a whole new range of spam and trolling. mellow.gif
Roy
I hope it doesn't get too worse that Sal needs to ask Jagex to put it of the list...

Haven't noticed yet but it's possible. And as long that they act normal without spam and massive smileys, let them come.
Chaoss
Hmm, i guess i see what you're saying.

2 new people have been pretty active in the Faking section lately, so it may be a reason why.

But i don't really think there will be too much of a sudden burst since everyone knew what Sal's was before anyway wink.gif
Master Neverdead
May I interject with a bit of advice?

The best way to keep the new members on the best of behavior is for you, the Slam's Veterans to show them the proper way to behave. I honestly believe that it is for that reason we have the amazing community we do today. Sure, I'm proud of the staff here and I believe that each one of them deserves their position, but what's the point of a staff if there are no members? You guys are meat and potatoes of this dinner and it is really up to you guys to decide what the forum atmosphere feels like.

But I do agree with chaos. There really hasn't been a huge blast of new people and the new ones we have been getting seem to be excellent additions to our community. (Well, every carton has a bad egg or two....)
Sparhawke
I have to agree with Neverdead, I have been on forums like this where people for the most part are excellent to new members, or at least welcome them when they see them and dont treat them like garbage...and I have seen others that treat new members like scum.

If people have a question the best thing to do is answer it or simply move on, the worst thing that I have seen on forums is telling people to censored.gif off and go play a game rather than asking questions on forums and it is those people who ultimately ruin it for all...this was even said by people who had a senior member tag some places blink.gif

It is all about first impressions, if you get treated well when you first go to a forum you will become a valuable member, if treated like dirt you will inevitably get called a troll and in some way become that...due to anger which is understandable.

Of course there is no getting around the fact that some people are trolls from day one but most are created wink.gif

But getting back to the topic for my answer, I have seen a small rise in the amount of members...sometime last month we had 16,000...now it is 18,000. In part probably due to being near the top in that list smile.gif
Muttmuttinthebutt
I don't really care about more members being added, it's gonna be the same thing. Some will get banned, some will become helpful members to our community, and most will stop posting after a couple 'o' days. wink.gif

While we are to set the best example, it would help if they did more than make one post and forget about the forum sleep.gif

It isn't Jagex's job to advertise our forum.
Veni vidi vici
Oh, no I'm aware of that. It is just part of them opening up (Remind you of a certain Capitalist/Communist country in the middle of Asia?) to players and fan-sites. And I don't blame them. I remember in the past they just gave us an update on the day it was to come out: No Development Diary's, no heads up, just an update. It may not be their job to advertise, but they are leading players here. They join. They make one or two posts. They forget about the site, and their account becomes just extra space and a name taken up. It is very annoying indeed, and it makes sense that since our name is on the list (#2! w00t!) then we would get more members. Not that we weren't popular before, or need more attention, even with 1k+ active members.

I think you're missing something beyond it. They acknowledge us as an "official" fansite. When they let out all of that, the sites on that list also can be said in game, you can direct users here. That opens up advertisement. You can also direct them to the Clan Chat which in of itself is advertising, if you think people forget us so easily I'm in disagreement. And really I haven't noticed any form of a "problem" developing, related to your "they forget about the site, and their account becomes just extra space and a name taken up". Remember, that the forum prunes itself of members that are inactive.
Darth KJ
Yes, I have noticed that.
I just hope it doesn't turn out to be a bad thing (aka, more 'noobs' come and stuff up our forum)

Atomic Stuff
I have to admit something, this was the first forum I ever used. My first 70 posts were completely noob-ish, I used the emoticons a LOT, I put i instead of I, and to top that all off, I also bumped two topics.

I'm a terrible new member.

Anyway, most of them aren't on my FAIL list yet. Once they start walking down the path of FAILURE, it is difficult to turn back to the AWESOME.

What do you suggest about it? Killing them? If they aren't interested in the forum, why should they stick around?
