MID (Mobile Internet Devices). Started out as a childs product, then developed into a fad, and then became a large portion of the PC market. So talk, discuss, argue, vote, boycott... whatever, just as long as it's about MID's.

Well, I have an ipod touch. I usually only use it for looking things up every so often. Better than turning the computer on. wub.gif

I have an iPod Touch that I use regularly and I'd like a Samsung NC10 for when I go to University (or whatever the latest version is by then tongue.gif).

Just because it's a netbook, doesn't mean it has internet. Actually, none of these are created solely for internet...

I wouldn't use a small useless netbook, anyways. A 15.4" laptop in my bag would work. If I wanted internet anywhere, I'd buy a 3G card.

Clue's in the name red. Netbook.

Hey, I never thought about that.

Still, you won't have internet unless you have an internet dongle (from ATT&T, Verizon, etc.) or if there's free public wifi, which only major cities have.

That's true of every device.

I quote from Wikipedia's article on Mobile Internet Devices (MIDs):
QUOTE
A Mobile Internet Device (MID) is a multimedia-capable handheld computer providing wireless Internet access.[1][2][3] They are designed to provide entertainment, information and location-based services for personal use, rather than for corporate use. MIDs are larger than smartphones but smaller than the Ultra Mobile PC (UMPC).[citation needed] They have been described as filling a niche between smartphones and Tablet PCs.[4]

The clue's in the name; mobile internet devices are designed for on-the-go internet access. They often have 3G cards and support WiFi, meaning that the internet can be accessed almost anywhere.

And the Wikipedia article on Netbooks:
QUOTE
A netbook is a small portable laptop computer designed for wireless communication and access to the Internet.[1]
Primarily designed for web browsing and e-mailing, netbooks rely heavily on the Internet for remote access to web-based applications[2] and are targeted increasingly at cloud computing users who require a less powerful client computer.[3] Netbooks typically run either Windows XP or Linux operating systems[2] rather than more resource-intensive operating systems like Windows Vista.[4] The devices range in size from below 5 inches[5] to over 13,[6] typically weigh 2 to 3 pounds (~1 kg) and are often significantly cheaper than general purpose laptops at US$ 400,[2] with some even in the US$ 50–100 range.[7]

Netbooks are also designed for mobile internet access. Many have 3G cards built in; with others you can use a mobile broadband dongle or you can connect to WiFi. Most towns and cities have WiFi available somewhere; if there's no public WiFi available, unsecured private wireless networks can be found pretty much everywhere tongue.gif

So yes - ALL of the devices in the poll are designed with internet access in mind, even though that may not be their sole feature. And netbooks aren't useless; they may not be as fully-featured as normal laptops, but they are perfectly capable for their role.

Have a Sammy NC10 (which doesn't have HSDPA/3g), like the look of the Vaio P series, also like the look of a Gigabyte one with a touchscreen.. can't remember the number. Use my netbook all the time, but not for mobile internet.

Dad has an iPhone along with several friends - awesome piece of kit, makes up for the MacBook tongue.gif

I want an Eee PC 1000HE, over 10 hours of battery life, doing heavy duty stuff.

And Earl, the P Series pretty looks may draw you in, but it's CPU is very inadequate. It's not even an atom, but even with 2GB RAM the system struggles with Windows Vista. Maybe, if they put XP or Ubuntu on there, used an Atom CPU and halfed the price tag then you might get it tongue.gif

I use the iPhone, the Safari browser built-in is fast, the OSK is easy to use and it's a lot faster than turning on my computer every time I want to check something

I got my thrusty phone.. Filled with games and WiFi.. just need the WEP code for our WLAN..
Seriously, i have never gotten the chance to use the WiFi.. sad.gif (Only almost in the city, but the networks are all pass-protected and cost to use)
Im sure it would go at high speed too, its a 802.1 transmitter, same as in portable pcs.

You'll want a transceiver or a receiver... how else do you expect to receive data. But trust me, phone internet is always slow. This is not necessarily the fault of the wireless equipment, although it will be worse, but the fault of the phone's hardware. The CPU will be a piece of shizzle, and you'll frequently run into 'out of memory' messages on intensive pages.

I personally love the way my iPhone handles the internet cute.png I also like the Intel Classmate netbook.
Mudkip Hugger
I personally don't have any of those yet, but I'm getting the T-Mobile G1 soon.
