What do you think are the most overrated bands/artists? I mean from the 60's to the early 90's; not new stuff.
I would have to say my top 5 would be:
Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, U2, Red Hot Chili Peppers and The Beatles.
I dislike all of the above, except for The Beatles, but I certainly don't think they're as great as they're perceived to be.
What are yours?

I agree with RHCP and U2 but not the others, they were highly influential, although they definitely aren't the best musically I think they are still amazing for that reason.

What the hells wrong with RHCP? If your talking about the 90's and earlier and not the new stuff (2000's) They kicked ass! Have you listened to any of the old stuff? Frealy Styley? Blood Sugar Sex Magik? Hell, even Californiacation? They have a fealing to their songs that never gets old.. Whats an awesome and classic band to you then?

I think that people worship the music more today than back then. I have no idea how this happened, I guess it just sorta latched on to people of today. Anyway, I'm a bit embarrassed to like the more overrated older bands due to the fact that they've been labeled a bit lame. Maybe my age just outgrew it.

Ok I agree with you, a lot of bands have had amazing success in the beginning and then the milk got sour towards the end. Iron Maiden and Pink Floyd made some really good albums, and they both made some really bad albums as well. But should we really hate a band and think them overrated just because their later albums stunk like bad camembert?
I'm sure most Maiden and Pink fans don't love every single album they've done. And that's part of the charm of certain bands, we love certain epochs of their work simply because their other stuff sucked so bad.
I don't love Nirvana's music, but Cobain's taste in music was exquisite to say the least. And Nirvana did bring an end to the 80's, which ain't such a bad thing.

Hi. You have established yourself as an idiot.
- Cobain was not "suicidal" and whether or not he actually did it is unclear.
- Dave Grohl is a great musician, but that's BS. Compare Foo Fighters to 90% of Nirvana's songs, written by Kurt.
- Without Nirvana, alternative rock would not be popular.
You're being ignorant, buddy. Elvis made rock'n'roll popular, and yeah, most artists aren't influenced by his sound anymore, but he started the rock'n'roll revolution. The same with Nirvana - before Nirvana, alternative rock was fairly underground. It's Nirvana's success that made the genre popular, replacing glam metal. I can see why people may not like Nirvana (personally I'd take Soundgarden or Mudhoney over them anyday), but Kurt Cobain shaped music forever.

Only two of those are labelled as "classic rock", and "classic rock" is one of the worst terms ever. People will hear something stupid like Def Leppard and because it's "classic rock", they'll asume everything that's "classic rock" is that awful. You also mentioned them being praised as gods of music. While Led Zeppelin was pretty damn awesome, RHCP and Metallica are nowhere near god status. AC/DC was pretty sweet in the 70's, but they've never been anything special.
Yeah, those are all overrated, but none of those are bad. The most overrated band in my opinion is the Beatles. I love the Beatles and agree that they were among the best acts ever, but they're not quite what Rolling Stone claims they are. They get praised for EVERYTHING. "Oh my god, did you hear George play that G chord? IT WAS MASTERFUL" and "Wow! 'They're gonna crucify me'! Lennon is SO deep!". Everyone clings on the Beatles because they have no one else to point to when they think of amazing music. The Beatles were surely a work of mastery, but there's so many other bands on-par with them. How often do you hear praise for the genius of Joe Strummer?

The Beatles- I don't see how they could possibly sell over a billion records they're not peticularily good tbh.
Cold Play- I'de never heard about them until i asked who played whatever that terrible song on the radio was (Viva something) they sound like U2 but with a style that accomodates more to 11 year old girls but apparently their hot shizzazzlez.
Neil Young- He's been very influential and I'll give him some points for being a little talented but i don't think he deserves all the attention he gets there were much better musicians in the day and theres much better ones now.
