Hi there. My Vista pc has never really startup fast, or really slow. But it just boots up a little too slow in my opinion. Also when I get to see my desktop, it still takes quite a while to start up a browser (the latest version of Firefox in my case). I imagine this would be because there are too many programs that start up along with Windows. I've reduced the amount quite a bit now, took off some application of the list in msconfig, and it's a little faster now.

But I think there are still application in that start up that I don't need. However, I'm not a very techy person so I'm not sure if it's safe to uncheck some programs from the startup list.

So here's a screenshot containing the programs that start up along with my pc.

(sorry for the cropping stuff, it wouldn't let me resize the window)

Programs I'd like to keep on the list:

µTorrent
Rocketdock (it's really on there twice, dunno why)
Windows Operating System (obviously)

So could anybody tell me which programs are not necessary to start up on boot? (I've already taken off Daemon Tools Lite by the way.)
Fencefry
Google Update, RaUI (What is it? I'm just assuming it can be taken off atm), Nvidia media center library (I think...), and Windows Defender.
Depending on what cyberlink and Language app are you can switch those off.

Take off one of the rocket Docks.

I'd say remove Windows Defender and Daemon Tools. Both don't really have much use, especially the latter.

What I did is turn off Daemon Tools, but then add a shortcut in my quickstart menu (the one on the taskbar).

And you really don't need uTorrent unless you're constantly downloading/seeding...

What's cyberlink brs??
Kwinten
Apparently Cyberlink was some video application or something. huh.gif

Took off a lot of programs, startup is still slow (even though when I see my desktop I can start up my programs I need a bit faster now)

How much RAM do you have?

What edition of Vista does it have?
Kwinten
3Gb of RAM, Vista home premium.
