Im mad!The Jagex team said mechscape was gonna be released by the Q1 of the bussiness year in 2009,and its way past that....
SteelPK
Actually, they said it would release when it reaches "Total Awesomeness" when that time comes, we'll probably be hooked on it like meth. biggrin.gif
Zekermei
yes,but that dosn't make me more happy,"Total Awesomeness" could happen very soon or all the way to 2012 sad.gif

Mark my word, it will come before 2010.

That's all they promise for now.
Kwinten

everything is speculation

I don't care, when they work on updates properly they're good, but look at they're rushed one: Wilderness Removal, Run energy, Consatruction

Whereas BH took a while but is fantastic!

Well they do give us hope. Some jagex mods said as late as october.
Which means there is a hidden expectancy that it should be done before that and unless there was some severly slacking it will be done Before then.

My expectancy is july or august.

This guy is big on Mechtopia, and I'm one of two founders of a small, just starting fansite (check my sig). Jagex seems to expect the game to be done by October, so the beta should be released around then. However, nothing is definite, and Jagex is making no promises.

BTW, they never said it would be in Q1 2009, although they did hint toward that. Obviously it wasn't good enough, so be patient. You'll have plenty of time to play it when it's released. The longer it takes, the better it will be upon release, and the more you'll enjoy it. Would you rather they released it now and you found it was a horrible game with an immense amount of bugs? Not me.

Weeeeelllll....
I wouldn't mind there being a few bugs. Runescape constantly has bugs, and Jagex is constantly fixing them. However, I don't want it to be tooooo rushed.
Anyway, what the hell does Q1 mean?

Well, of course there's going to be some bugs. Remember what they said after the run energy update? How in just one hour the same amount of testing was done by players as what Jagex could do in 20 years? This isn't just an altered game engine, this is a whole new game!

And Q1 is the first quarter of the business year, which for Jagex is April through May.

Yeah, Jagex did hint toward a Q1 release date, but they still never promised anything.

I think that total awesomeness means when they used all of their terrain and pixel count so they will never have to update, thus making the release date 2+ years from now depending on the quality of the terrain/gameplay.
pink dog1992
wow if jagex is going to release it before 2010 they have really been keeping it a close secret. hardly anything has been leaked, just a bit of concept art on paper. i was prepared to wait another 1-2 years for it

I realize that was probably sarcastic, but technically there's no such thing as a terrain or pixel count. A game developer can keep adding squares of terrain for as long as they have space to store it. And considering that, in my experience, terrains are usually stored as greyscale images, any developer could have one heck of a lot of terrain without using up their space (a whole lot more than any game developer has ever used), and even if they did use up their space, they could just add more, which Jagex has done quite a few times with RuneScape.

And there's no such thing as pixel count in the sense you're using it. 3D files are not stored as pixels like image files are, they're stored by where the vertices, edges, and faces should be when displayed on screen. They're only converted to pixels by the game engine based on the screen of the user, and it only does that for whatever is in view of the user.

I think you need to take a look at these pages:

http://www.mechhelp.net/info/
http://www.mechscapeworld.com/forums/index...c=6402&st=0

The second one is several months outdated, and the first one is still missing some information even though it was just updated last week. I'm still working on it.

There's still not near as much information as we would like, but there's a whole lot more than just Concept Art.
Tree
Well, you shouldn't be mad. They're still working on it, i predict they're fixing bugs. What would you rather want: a completely bugged game, which came out a bit earlier or an perfectly clean, awesome game?
