In an attempt to be a better pixeler, i am going to start a new project by making an iPod. It's fairly simple, i think, to make an iPod so that's why i'm making it. Hopefully it will help me become a better pixeler.

This time, in hopes people don't think irip my pixels, i will post each step i draw on paint. It will take a couple of days becuase i also need to study for finals and such, but in the end i hope it will look good smile.gif

1. Draw outline + basic places.

2. Fill in click wheel a little, added base colors.

3. Filled in words and album art. Made 3D.

Need help with shading on the album art. If you zoom in look at what i tried. I mean it sorta works, but i don'tthink i shaded it right slanty.gif

Also, opinions on the blue time bar? Made it from scratch smile.gif

Adding skin next!
Mario
Is it just going to be a plain normal iPod, or a custom one? unsure.gif
Chaoss
Idk, i'lmake it up as i go along smile.gif

The main ipod wilbe easy, but i want the album cover to look cool. What could i add otherwise?

Oh, and i'm making it 3D

Something along those lines?

thats not a pixel just so u know, but add some shading and dithering make sure you add a light source as well
Chaoss
I know, it's a base of what theinal may look like. Trust me the album cover will be pixeled, as well as the words and the color. i just filled it in black for now wink.gif

wow seriously..
dordamage
looks great so far have any idea what song will be playing on it lol, havent seen an ipod like that for a while if you take your time I am sure that it will turn out great. I am also sure that you plan on shading it but you should add mroe before that happens. I love watching peoples progress as they work on it it can show allot of improvments and can also make you more confident.
Chaoss
Thanks guys, yea i'm going to finish the words then start shading smile.gif

wow seriously..

LOL!!

Yeah I reckon you should add a custom skin instead of plain black tongue.gif
Chaoss
Ok, yea that will make it looks cooler too. Then ill try to add shading under that? I guess i'll make a custom skin on a silver or white iPod. Any suggestions on how to shade that without ruining the custom art?
Mario
Nice to see you did some more work!

The screen is fantastic, I love all the details. I would say that that part needs no more work.
Sadly, I don't like the feel of the 3D perspective at all. The lines don't look well placed IMO. This may just be me, but it is MY CC after all laugh.gif

I would remove the perspective and continue working on the skin or whatever it's called and leave the 3D to the end.
Fruityfed
The perspective's off a little. You can see more of the bottom side than you should be able to.

One thing I think would help would be if you somehow made it look like the edges were rounded. Maybe making them a slightly lighter color. That might make it look more 3D.

Just so you know "1 of 837" should be under the song info.

Great job, just noticed a couple things:

-Charging port is too small
-"Menu" button is a bit off-center

Other than shat, it should look great when shading is complete.
Chaoss
Ok thanks guys, im basing this off my iPod. It's pretty outdated, so i don't know if they moved some things in the newer models.

Yea, i just put the charging port there temporarily
Ok, yea its a bit to the right.

And thanks for the tip thunderclaw, that will definatly help smile.gif

Not sure when this will be done. I dont have internet access at any case, so i wont be able to post the final product for a while.

I wouldn't worry about ripping if I were you as you said it's fairly simple and its one of your first pixels.

Its easy and simple to make the line work for this kind of thing but when it comes to shading it in its more difficult as it is a shiny smooth, surface and you have to think where the light is coming from.
Dreaded
I like your accuracy with the text and the general outline.
You could improve it in two points:
  • Give some shading on the front of the iPod (the black part)
  • Work a bit on the side, making it more 3D
Kingy
It isnt at a real angle, you have the face flat, yet the side showing.. remove the side bit that is grey then it will look more realistic.

EDIT: realised why the side bit dont look real, you have the stuff going at an angle, yet the port is not, this creates an unrealistic effect, maybe make the port the same angle as the outisde edge.
Mudkip Hugger
If you want to make the album art look a little cooler set it at an angle, because that's what it looks like in newer models of the iPod. And if you'd like to show more detail in the album art, why not just make the whole iPod bigger?
Slate
And maybe the blue bar should be less filled? Because the song is 3:43 long, and it's 0:46 done, and it's halfway filled.. >_> Hope I made sense.
