Yay, FF 3.5 is out today and can be downloaded here.

New features:
Private browsing/forget this site
Speed increase
New security features
Smaller memory footprint
Improved awesome bar
Much improved tabs
Location aware browsing
Built in media player
Support for HTML5 (along with other newer languages)
And MORE

I really like it so far.

You can try out HTML5 for videos here and audio here. Basically it's built with HTML, not with those other players you need, which means you can do things like right click and save as for everything. biggrin.gif

Looks good so far, I like the new Tab button biggrin.gif

Private Browsing. Nice. smile.gif

And I don't know why, but I'm not a fan of the new icon. tongue.gif Other than that, everything looks cool.

Im still on the Beta, I'm too lazy to download the new one tongue.gif.
I don't like the icon, looks wrong sad.gif. Overall it seems better than 3 smile.gif.

What does the icon look like? I have this addon that makes the tab like IE's (where it's next to the tabs), so I just get a small portion of a tab with a + on it. unsure.gif

I have that too. However, I was talking about the general FF icon; the fox and the globe. tongue.gif It's too... bright? I liked the darker one.

Sweet. I love the add tab button thing. Also HTML 5 is pretty awesome.

Well, yea. I Ctrl+T all the time. It can just make things easier for people like my dad. tongue.gif

Ran into a nasty bug with it. It just randomly shut down while I was switching tabs and now every time I open it it closes back up again.

Guess I'll just use chrome till they fix the bugs. I was enjoying it though. Not any huge differences from before but it was definitely better.

How's the new awesomebar? I hated it before so I disabled it.

Here's the old FF icon. Compare it to the new one. You'll see that there is a darker shade in the upper left-hand corner of the icon, which is sort of what I meant. tongue.gif

But anyway, THAT LITTLE shade is ticking me off right now. angry.gif

I'm unsure if I still have the Beta version or if I updated laugh.gif .

Anyway, I enjoy having the feature of the Private Browsing Mode and the built in Media Player. Bravo on doing it again Mozilla.

It is very fast
I like the upgrades in performance and the new features

Page loads, menus, and bookmarking are slightly slower in 3.5 than 3.0.11 for me, but the program itself loads quicker. I'm still happy to upgrade though. Increased security is always a plus in web browsing. I'm also happy that all my add-ons are available. That's a huge plus to me. Quicker JavaScript execution is also great. Good work Mozilla!

I like it, I use more than one tab a lot now so the little + thing is WAY more easier. I just now installed but I noticed the icon is brighter, kinda freaky but I could care less about the way the icon is. I'm trying to get use to the "No Script" thing I downloaded because my friend gave me some freaky sites so it blocks all bad stuff. happy.gif
Cake
I don't see any differences when I downloaded it, only I see one is "add tab". However, Firefox is now faster than before, and that's just what I wanted. smile.gif

So private browsing is essentially a porn mode.

I just downloaded it. Nice, but nothing really revolutionary. Tab button should have been there from the start imo, and a speed boost is always appreciated smile.gif

I thought the tab button was there since 3.0.0. I guess it was apart of an add-on I installed; probably 'Tabs Open Relative'.

FF has tabs too, it's just until this release there was no 'new tab' button - you used Ctrl + T instead. IMO Ctrl + T is easier and quicker, especially if you're on a laptop with a dodgy touchpad. There was no real need for a button to be added, but I guess they put it in to help the IE converts tongue.gif

I disagree. I'm more of a clicker than a keyboard shortcut typist and I use that button quite often.
redmonke
Even firefox 2 had a tab button. You had to right click > customize > then drag the new tab button somewhere. wink.gif

I don't really care for the New tab thingy But i do like the faster speed biggrin.gif

I thought the tab button was there since 3.0.0. I guess it was apart of an add-on I installed; probably 'Tabs Open Relative'.

Double-clicking on the tab bar opens up a new tab... and within 2 minutes of updating I've hidden the New Tab button using Stylish because it was already getting annoying and flashing too much. tongue.gif
Why isn't the setting 'Always show the tab bar' not remembered properly when the update is done? I can possibly understand that they want to show off the New Tab button, but I'm sure people unticked that box for a reason and it can be seen when you open two tabs anyway.

...I also love how the example video on the start page is completely failing to play and generally being buggy, then for other example videos that do work after half a minute, the audio is terrible and jerky. bleh.gif

Does anybody know of a replacement for Resizeable Textarea that works with 3.5? (it lets you resize text areas by clicking and dragging the edges)

...off to find a way to disable 'Search Bookmarks and History' showing in the URL bar when it's empty and not selected. Found another use for Stylish. biggrin.gif

..."Links to external resources such as JavaScript files or CSS files are now clickable when viewing a page source code." wub.gif
...History is grouped by month, eliminating the freeze when you accidentally clicked to expand 'Older items'. yay.gif
...noticeably quicker restart times.

...there's something up with scrollbars which means they're showing differently, though that's a skin problem.

I know on lifehacker people keep mentioning Nightly Tester Tools whenever someone's addons aren't supported. It's worth a shot.

It's called CTRL+T

You should try it rolleyes.gif

And Ctrl+Tab, Ctrl+Space, Alt+D, Ctrl+Q, Ctrl+N, Ctrl+R, F5, Ctrl+F5, Ctrl+B, Ctrl+I, Ctrl+U (multiple uses depending on focus), Ctrl+X, Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V, Ctrl+Z, Ctrl+Y, Ctrl+F, Alt+F, Alt+E, Alt+V, Alt+S, Alt+B, Alt+T, Alt+H, Alt+F4, Ctrl+Alt+R, etc.
There are probably more useful shortcuts that I can't remember atm.

...for some reason, the 'Go' button is displaying permanently and the icon to indicate RSS feeds isn't showing (in the URL bar). Any ideas? box.gif

Sounds like an addon problem. (Stylish?) Mine has the RSS feed showing and no "go" button in sight.

I know, because I used to use that button before a friend turned me into a keyboard ninja tongue.gif What I meant was that Firefox never had the IE-style tab button that appears after the last tab you have open until now. After working with FF for a couple of hours I've got used to the button, but I still prefer my good ol' keyboard biggrin.gif

Something I don't like about the new FF is now you cannot close the only opened tab. In order to close it, you need to reopen another. Does anyone know of a 'fix' for this?

Eh you can't close the only open tab on any browser. Why would you want to anyways just hit the X at the top of the screen.

I just noticed that. Makes me kinda mad because when I hand the computer to my mom it's easier if I just leave it on a blank tab so she doesn't go reading all my stuff. tongue.gif

Pre-3.5, I had an X on the tab that allowed me to close it. If I only had one tab opened and closed that tab, it would be as if I opened a new tab and closed the old. Now, the X only appears on the tab if there are multiple tabs open. It's two steps instead of the previous one.

That sounds like exactly what I was looking for. I'm off to try it out. Maybe I did this in the past some time but had forgotten.

Mine hasn't been brilliant either, had a random close of it earlier. It also occasionally closes one of the tabs and opens it up in a separate window which is annoying.

It didn't /crash/, it was just really lousy performance. After about an hour of it, I scoured the interwebz to find a 3.0.11 installer and downgraded it. To me, it seems like Mozilla is content to follow in Microsoft's footsteps dry.gif instead of doing what they did before, which was to beat their own path based on what users want.
Jr Josh
Mine hasn't had any issues at all. Which is odd.
Caboose
Same, it's just the same as 3.11 but faster and more secure. And i've had infinite tabs open, playing several flash/java games at once... nothing.

I ran into that problem when I started using it but its actually a nice feature that your using by accident. Stop clicking and dragging your tabs onto the main part of the browser and it won't do that anymore. Its a kind of annoying feature sometimes but once you figure out how it happened its not a big deal.

Am I the only one that is having troubles with facebook? Sometimes whenever I receive a message, it beeps and then I can't type (like I'm holding down too many buttons at once). Happening to me and my friend and it really gets annoying. slanty.gif

I tried the Beta, and It was very slow and laggy.

I hope this is better smile.gif

The Mozilla community have provided an add-on to prevent this feature: http://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/12276 It's only an experimental add-on for now, but it works fine. After installation, go to Tools > Add-ons > bug489729 v1.2 > Options button > Checkmark: Disable detatch tab. It'll then work w/o restarting your browser.
