I am aware that it's not okay to evade censors on this forum. However, it's pretty clear that you are allowed to link to a webpage with bad language as long as you add in "WARNING: Bad language" before it. Unless it is extremely explicit, this is acceptable to post.

In one thread, I posted something sort of like this.

WARNING: Bad language.
Spoiler: Click to Toggle the Spoiler.
<a picture with the F word in it>

[Close]

I was given a warn for this. Now, I really don't care too much about the warn, but I find this to be pretty inconsistent. I don't see the difference between posting a spoiler covering an image with a bad word and posting a link to a picture with a bad word. How is using a spoiler to conceal a bad word worth a warn when posting a link to a video featuring bad words is okay?

Support.
Lol a warn in less than a month.

Why is that against the rules? You hid it and warned people first, it was of their own free will they clicked it. If they were such stuck-up nerds, they should've moved on and not clicked it.

Did you contact the mod in question?

The applicable rule:
Swearing or using any other type of inappropriate language is not allowed on this forum. This includes evading the word filter set in place.

That's my bolded text. We don't seek to manage the content of other sites. Pictures containing censored language have been consistently treated in the same way as other forms of censor evasion. Once someone moves off-site we move on to other rules such as misleading links, but for embedded img tags, this is effectively our site content.

Regarding links, the applicable rule is:
All links in a post must be related to the topic's content. External links to violent or otherwise borderline content must be accompanied by a warning stating that it may not be appropriate for all users. We reserve the right to decide if a link is appropriate or not, and may remove any link we feel breaks any of our rules.

Oh no slanty.gif ownage I guess. Next time find the site it was on ;P
Vera
Then that is the rule that is setup - what was posted was against the rules.

However... I still don't see the point. Posting a spoiler around the image would require someone to click the spoiler to see the image. Posting a link to the image would require someone to click the link. It's basically the same thing. The rule also does not mention spoilers, which makes it faulty and unclear.

Remove the link, not give you a warn.

I was the one whom reported the post. Not that it matters; just a FYI. My understanding of the rules is that you cannot evade the censor on this forum. Your image contained a word that is on the censored list, and you posted that image on this forum. I reported your post for containing a word that I presumed was on the list of censored words. The censor can't check images, but would that make it alright for me to make posts made solely of images just because the censor can't block them? No, because I'd still be evading the censor. Whether in a spoiler or not, the word is still posted on the forum.

Unrelated to this point, it's not like the spoilers actually hide content. They're used much more to condense information here than with the idea to actually hide something to those not wanting to read it, as a true spoiler is intended.

Edit @ Caboose: Warning a user is up to the discretion of the Moderator(s), not you, I, or Vera.

Spoilers still give the option to look at it or not. There's a warning before the spoiler. It's not necessary to click it.

While we're disclosing this stuff, I'll admit I was the one that gave the warn. I'll further admit that following discussion with the other moderators I was applying an over-strict interpretation of the rules. I'm revoking the warning and am glad to see a victory for common sense (not the retired staff member tongue.gif) over blind rule following *glares at self*.

I'm closing this topic out of embarrassment since all that needs to be said has been.

The spoiler is posted on this forum, so it must comply with this forum's rules. There are no listed exceptions that allow censored words to be allowed if they are displayed as images or within spoiler tags.

SlashingUK says - The rules allow for the application of common sense. This seems sufficient justification in this case.
