Flood control slows down anyone in case they decide to porn-bomb or such.
BannedForLULZ
Porn bombing dosent have to do with viewing new topic though D:
Bruno
And it helps with site traffic.

Flood control doesn't apply to viewing topics, just posting in two in a row fast D:

It called there are morons out there who would keep refreshing that page which would cause the site massive traffic, making it impossible to navigate anywhere because it'd tak a year to load a page, or something like that. Isn't this on the rejected suggestions list? unsure.gif

View new posts does a search on the forum, and searches are activity-intensive on the server, thus the limitation.

I'm sure you can live not F5ing the "view new posts" every 29 seconds.

How many people use those forums? Moreover, if their lack of flood control is exploited, they WON'T work just fine. Why take a risk?

If I can recall, (search) flood control is included in IPB boards and other forum software to prevent forum users and search bots from search engines like Google from constantly searching through a forum and taking up many of the available resources that a server has. Having flood control here prevents most of the server's resources from being taken up by searches, in turn keeping the speed of loading any part of the forum relatively speedy.

Currently, I don't have a problem with the flood control, and I don't feel the need for it to be removed.

There was a discussion on lowering the search flood time-limit and I believe Sal said lowered it from 30 seconds to 20 as a result. As Arianna mentioned, the Search feature is very resource intensive. It's got to search through nearly 1.8 million posts to find what you're looking for. Twenty seconds isn't that long of a wait. Instead of searching the whole board every half minute, why not visit the board you're really interested in?

Here is that topic: http://runescape.salmoneus.net/forums/inde...howtopic=214668
