I've got this pic of myself in runescape firin' mah crystal bow, which i'm turning into an avatar/sig thing when i get bored of everything. Buti cant figure out how to make the background transparent, so i can stick it on another image without a ginormous white square where i've erased what was there.

And photoshops explination is a little...confusing at best. How would one go about making said image 'transparent', in layman's terms?

Well, without a 'photoshop-ish' explanation, it's not going to come out that good slanty.gif

If you have a program like Paint.NET (http://www.getpaint.net) (or most programs that support transparencies), then all you need to do is select the white area with the magic wand tool and press 'delete' (for Paint.NET, that is).

But really, you should browse through the tutorials before asking us. Desireful made a very nice tutorial on how to make images transparent, and it is located right here: http://runescape.salmoneus.net/forums/inde...amp;article=132

Good luck making what you are making biggrin.gif

EDIT: Darnit Sofee, you beat me to the linking to tutorials sad.gif

No. There isn't any 'PhotoShop Talk' on that at all. If you want real PhotoShop talk, you should go to a dedicated GFX forum. Plus, you can just use my quick explanation. All that Desireful did was expand what I said right there.

Use the pen tool and make a path around the part you wish to keep. Then make it a selection and delete the background. Feather if needed.

What he is trying to say that after he makes a transparency and saves it, it won't save as transparency in GIF and PNG, right? That's the exact same problem I have.

er......something like that doesn't matter now, I've got gimp

EDIT: now I've got another problem. followed that guide, but because I'm at yaks when i took that pic, there's a bunch of grass and stuff still in the picture. what now?

Zoom in, erase the grass, save as PNG.

Upload your image to there with a coloured background, preferably really light green or another colour you won't use. Then go to the transparent transform tool part, and make it transparent there.

I think that they host the image afterwards for you aswell.
