Wyzo was released about two or so days ago, with the authors basing it off of Mozilla Firefox - but labeling it a Media Browser instead of a Web one. Looks actually decent and interesting, plus it'd help significantly with my browsing and downloading.
This is the official website and there's a
Wiki page on it as well. I might consider getting it once my download limit is restarted

.
Thoughts? Rip-Off or Decent?

Never saw appeal in using browsers that have the same internal coding as another one. The thing is going to be the same speed..

There's lots of browsers that use Firefox and IE as their base (or whatever).
I always found them useless.
If I wanted media, I'd open up Windows Media Player and half Firefox open (kinda like right now

).

Rip off. I mean, it absolutely exactly looks like Firefox. I think Firefox should sue Wyzo.

It's freely open for anyone to use and edit.

Seriously? If so, then Firefox is might letting people use their browser's codes so that people can make a browser that actually hacks people...

If they know how to do that they could of just made their own program to be honest with you.

Why, when the source for firefox is readily available, and it's trusted, tested and secure?

Jul 10 2009, 10:30 AM
Looks like the browser has some cool features to it, but it would be nice to see those features as add-ons for Firefox, instead of having to download a whole seperate program for them.
And as Redmonke said anyone is free to view, edit, and redistribute the source code of Firefox anyway they want, so Mozilla couldn't sue them.

That doesn't matter. As long as you are actually downloading Firefox from the official site, then there is no risk of downloading a 'dangerous' browser

Obviously there's a risk Wyzo could be dangerous (although it's unlikely), but as long as you don't download it from a dodgy site and virus scan the installer before you run it you'll be fine.

Meh, looks like Firefox with an ugly theme combined with BitTorrent Client and one of those media browsing add-ons for Firefox (forget the name). I doubt very much the 10x speed download thing actually happens very often. I know DownThemAll claimed to download things 4x faster, and it only ended up being about 1.1x as fast most of the time. It may be better than Firefox in and of itself, but I already have everything that thing offers, so there's no point in me downloading it.

Looking at various sites it seems that whilst it is categorized as 'malware' by HPhosts, their definition of malware includes 'adware'. As some people have complained about problems with ads, then maybe it has been incorrectly categorized as adware because of that? I'm not sure.
By the way goth fairy, of the comments on that WOT page, 5 say it is an OK site, and 4 say it's bad, although it's rated orange. McAfee SiteAdvisor rates the site as green - no spam, and the two downloads of the Wyzo browser are apparently clean. Plus it's been posted on Lifehacker, and it's very rare that they post dangerous software.
So there's mixed opinion on this site, obviously...

I compared the download speeds of Mozilla (I haven't updated recently), and Wyzo's downloading speed. Wyzo has better download speed (33KBPS Mozilla, 180KBPS Wyzo). But although the downloading speeds are different, when I load sites on Wyzo, it's much slower. I have yet to compare it between the latest version of firefox though.

It's nice. I love how it's fast and I can download torrents right from the browser.

There's already both a download speed increaser and inbrowser torrent downloader addons.

I use firedownload, and I sometimes get an extra 100kb/s increase.

I was unaware of that. But after using Wyzo for a while and using the in browser torrent downloader, it lagged up all my internet and I suck fudge you and got rid of it.

"Wyzo" looks like a "stupido" rip of Firefox.
