Do really these run OSX with full compatibility and are they able to update OSX? From what I've heard, most hackintoshs have issues with updating and you have to use other software to have it work, the only thing I've found that works is a efix card thing. anyway, does this work seamlessly, or am I gonna want to buy a Mac? Generally, I'm not with breaking the law, and I respect Apple, but, the economy the way it is..I need another Mac for the work I do.

What they're doing is illegal, unless they have permission to be selling a "mac" (which I highly doubt).

But yes it should work. As long as the components inside are the same as a mac (quick look and it looks close).

Although they still look expensive. The high end ones cost the same as a normal mac. pfft.gif

They work and psystar will support them but chances are updates may break compatibility.

I also found a company called Quo Computer that has open source computers, that they sell in a store. The site navigation is odd, and I'm surprised Apple hasn't sued them that, and Quo said that they fully expected that. I don't know. I'm looking for a Mac Pro alternative, and if anyone has ever checked out efi-x, I think that might be the best way to get one that works as could as the actual Mac Pro. The efi-x is also cheaper when building a hackintosh, if you use parts on their list, build a good one for under $900.

For what reasons are you looking for a Mac pro alternative? Just interested - I know you said 'for the work I do', but if you have to look for an alternative because you don't want the cost of the real one, it doesn't seem like the best option.

Well not only for the work, which is graphic design, but I live to mess around with stuff. I'm thinking about building a system, then the idea of a hackintosh popped up. But, now I'm thinking about getting a Mac Pro G5 tower off ebay and rebuilding that.

I believe Pystar was in a court case with Apple, I never heard what happened.

Windows computers are way easier to build and customise. Apple don't take kindly to the people that fiddle around with their Macs tongue.gif But if money's a problem and you already have the Mac software you need for your work, then I agree it would be easier to get a Mac than have to buy the Windows equivalents of the programs.

Still in the case.

If you're going to spend $600 on a unit w/o monitors or keyboards, just get a Mac Mini tongue.gif

Edit: Just read that you want a Mac Pro alternative

I assume it would be fine as long as you're ok with not upgrading/updating for the rest of your life. Although, I don't believe we're supposed to help with illegal practices, correct me if I'm wrong.
