Not a very unique title, I know, but I have trouble thinking of titles for things. Also, I am hitting a writers block currently, so this Role Play introduction is not starting out as well as I would have liked. Some of you guys said you wanted a different Role-Play, so this is the result. I have been thinking of writing a Role-Play for a while, mainly because I enjoy writing so much, so this should be interesting. Things are in spoilers to keep it smaller. Onto the plot.

Story Line:
Spoiler: Click to Toggle the Spoiler.

This story takes place on the planet: Tesemon (any name suggestions are very welcome).

Two hundred and eighty years ago, the planets five races worked together in perfect harmany. Food was abundent, war and crime were zero. The population wanted for nothing. Then something changed, no one really knows what, rifts started to form between the races. First it was minor things like barring certain members of the other races from towns that were not populated by the same race. Then whole races began to be blocked from one anothers town. Then boarders began to be drawn across the world. As with all things, once there are boarders defined, arguements spring up over where they are placed. With arguements come armies. These arguements turned into war, and before anyone truely realized what was happening, war had begun between all the five races. For the next two hundred years war raged across the planet. Entire cities were leveled, and hundreds of millions were wiped out. Entire generations gone. Sick of a war no one knew why they were fighting, the survivers of all five races came together and formed The Council (TC, for short). This ruling body patched the rifts between the races (not that much was needed to be patched, no one knew why they had happened in the first place), and life flurished from the ashes of war. Trading boomed between the races as technology held back from one another, and carefully guarded, quickly changed hands. That was seventy eight years ago.

Two years ago, rifts started forming between the five races. Fleets of space ships were built and launched. Weapons capable of killing on a scale never before seen were built and sent into space. The fleets were massive, each race sent up over one hundred military ships. Their sole purpose? To make sure that that Race's fleet was of equal size and strength as their neighbors in space. Two weeks ago, the five fleets were a hairs-breath away from fireing the first shot in eachother, an event that would have caused a second Planet Wide War (PWW), when a mysterious new race was discovered. This is where the story line begins. You will take the part of a crew member abord one of the ships, and you, along with the entire fleet, will investigate this new threat. However, there is still very much friction between the fleets, considering the last two years of increased pressure.

Races.
Spoiler: Click to Toggle the Spoiler.

There are five races to choose from. For now, I may change this later. If I do change it, all role players at the time will be allowed to create a second character, if they so choose, thou it is completely optional. Each Race has certain strengths, and equal weaknesses. There is no "over-powered" race. All Races appear humanoid, unless stated otherwise, and all walk on two legs, and have two arms.

Asyians: Medium height and build, these are the average race. They are between four feet and five and a half feet tall. They stand out neither in their brilliance, nor in their physical abilities. What they lack in either field they make up for in numbers, this is the most numerous population. Their fleet represents this. They are humanoid, except for their bright blue skin, a fact that all Asyians pride themselves on. Asyians are typically farmers by trade, thou a few take up art. They are a simple plain people. They do not make good diplomats, nor exceptional military commanders. However they never give up in a fight.

Malus: Of all the five races, this race is the most suited to filling the rank of foot soldiers. The average Malus stands between five and a half feet and six feet. The Malus slogun: "Brute force conquers all." What Malus rank in intelect (which is lower then the Asyians), they make up in brute strength. Stupid and prideful to a fault, Malus are the first in and last out of any battle. Loyal to eachother, a Malus's honor is easily offended, due in part to their extremely short tempers and hot headedness. Malus are of solid build, and are dark redish brown in color. Their eyes are yellow and slitted. Malus also take great pride in their eyes, and a sure way to provoke one of them into killing you is to insult their eyes. Malus are typically workers by trade (it is said on any job that has heavy lifting, you will find a Malus), thou they only feel truely comfortable in war.

Mechaoracles (if you have a better name, please suggest): Mechaoracles are the intelectuals of the world. Standing at seven to eight feet tall, on average, light green in color, and very wiry, the Mechaoracles hate war. However, they outweight this hate by their wanting to keep their race alive. Mechaoracles lend their great intelect to being diplomats. If it were not for them, it is very possible the war would have started. Mechaoracles are normally painters and artists on their world. Their race hates war, and trys to avoid it whenever possible. However, the Mechaoracles are not fools and stop trying to prevent wars after a certain point. Their increased intelect when compaired to three other races, has given the average Mechaoraclesan ego to match his/ her height.

Altarians: The shortest of all races, standing at three-four feet, the Altarians are master builders. Altarians are light gray in color. While the Altarians have no special skills with diplomacy, or with the arts, they are the most construction skilled of all races. As an extension of this, they are able to construct almost anything given the bare minimum of tools. Altarians have no love for war, but they have no hate for it either. They see war as a test of their building skills.

Worfind (credits to Scorpion, modified by me)- Hailing from the very distant planet, Worfin, a worfind starts out its life on Worfin, but upon coming of age, it leaves Worfin to explore the farthest reaches of the universe and discover its secrets. The worfinde's entire culture is based on exploration and discovery. As an extension of this, a worfind's life goal is to discover as many new things as is possible. Their technology, also, is based on this: their ships are built to sustain itself, its passengers, and its cargo for extended periods of time, and it has to ability to teleport its cargo and crew. Although this power can be blocked. The worfinde do not have weapons, however. They have not even thought of the concept of building technology for the sole purpose of harming other races, to do so would countermind their highest order. They're greatly peaceful, but they will fight, only for defense, and only using their claws. As a sideffect of their build, they possess the ability to climb certain surfaces, and jump slightly higher then most of the races. Except for the Mechaoracles, who can jump equally as high, thanks to their great height. They are agile, although equal in agility to most of the other races, excepting the Altarians and the Malus, who are less agile. Worfinde have gray skin, purely black eyes, and hands with two clawed fingers and a clawed thumb. They have backwards facing feet/legs, with two hind claws, and another clawed toe that is like a thumb (which allows them to scale certain surfaces with ease that are much harder for the other races). Another advantage of the claw is their ability to grasp certain objects with their feet. Their intelect places them as the third smartest race, only slightly below the Mechaoracles.

Adonis (unplayable for now): The Adonius are the military geniuses of the five races. They are white with blue eyes and are the second tallest race, standing at 6-6 and a half feet. If it was not for their extremely small population, it is likely the Adonis would have taken over during the first war. While Adonis's are military geniuses, they take very long in both thinking about their plans (on account of them thinking through each possible outcome, no matter how obsecure), then even longer in decideing the best way to put them into action. However, once put into action, the Adonis's plans are nearly fool-proof.

Technology (i.e. guns and ships).
Spoiler: Click to Toggle the Spoiler.

The Alien fleets are shaped after the fleets of today (minus submarines). The ships are ranked in order of power, and size, (highest to lowest). Battleships and Carriers are equal.

A battleship can beat anything except another battle ship, or a carrier, when they are fresh. While being one of the two classes of ships most heavily armed, they are also the slowest.

Carriers can only lanch fighters, they have shields, but minimum offensive power. Carriers are slightly faster the Battleships, but not by much.

Frigates can fight equally against any frigate, or a ship class below them. Having less shielding then either the battleship or the Carrier, the frigates make up for it in speed.

Distroyers are the main workhorses of any of the fleets. Capable of decent offensive fire, these are the ships that protect the fleet from enemy fighters and missiles. These form the back-bone of any fleet.

Fighters, while being the smallest ships, are the fastest, the most numerous, and can pack a punch if carrying torpedos. Primarily fighters fight with otehr fighters, however if outfitted properly, they are also used ot directly attack the slow moving enemy capital ships with torpedos, wearing down their shields.

Ships of all races only vary in the design of the ship (a Mechaoracles ship for example is steamlined, long, and elegent, as opposed to a Malus ship which is short, stocky, and hard on the eyes), and minor weapons differences. No ships of one race will be over-powered when compaired to the ships of another race. However, a lone fighter will easily be swatted out of space by a battleship, or a Distroyer, for example. Likewise, battleships will beable to fight on equal terms with eachother if such an event happens.

I will edit in more details about how the ships looks chance from race to race, but I did not think that would be needed for those of you interested to start filling out the forms tongue.gif.

Rules:
Spoiler: Click to Toggle the Spoiler.
Please only apply if you are serious, that does not mean you have to post every 15 minutes, and over 1,000 words each "I C". It means you want to write a little something once a day, in the style of what ever character you choose (for example, if you choose to write a character that is scared of everything, you cannot change it in one I C to where he has balls of brass and goes into the fight all guns fireing). Above all, have fun. Writing is never supposed to be a chore, especially here where it is all a fantasy story tongue.gif.

Please make your post atleast a sentence in length, the occasional one sentence posts are acceptable, especially if it gets to a point in the plot where to do otherwise would mean character control.

No Character control. Unless you are given the premission by the writer of that character, you are free to control only your character, not anyone's elses.

One character only, please. Also, your character can be any military rank except for Admiral. They can be a captian. If it is of a captains rank, you cannot control more then one ship.

Again, I cannot stress this enough: Have fun.

Character's Name: Argyle Ghartin
Race: Malus
Military Rank: Captain
Ship: "The Hammer", a Destroyer class ship
History: At a young age, Argyle displayed a slightly higher intelligence than most of his race. Though still staying true to their credo 'brute force conquers all', Argyle always tried to devise ways of minimizing his own losses when going into 'friendly' battles. This quickly lead his teachers to recommend him for the military academy, where he would be trained to be a starship captain. Years later, a headstrong and proud Argyle left the academy, ready to take on his first job as captain. As all rookie captains, his first ship would be of the Destroyer class.
Personality: Argyle is a true Malus. Headstrong, proud, easily offended and a lust for battle. Unlike other of his race though, he is a bit more intelligent, which put him in a leading position. Though he tries to think things through before doing something rash, his violent nature often gets in the way.

Character's Name: Asterick Comma

Race: Asyians

Ship Type (credits to Deimos for this): Fighter

Military Rank (considering you will be on a military vessel when this application starts, most characters will have an active military rank): Figher Pilot?

History (How did you come to be on this ship): Asterick developed a love for space warfare since he was a child when his father told him how his ancestors fought great battles up in the stars. He was very good at evading when the big bullies came and he was especially good at hit and run tactics, throwing stones at the bullies and running away. When he heard another war was imminent, he wanted to join the army and become a fighter pilot but his mother made him stay at home because she would be worried everyday if he went fighting battles. Asterick ran away from home and ventured to a nearby recruitment office where he signed up to be a fighter pilot.

Personality (What drives this character, and how does he/ she act?): Asterick loves space combat and dogfighting. He loves the feel when he just blew up something with his fighter, the 'Mother's Worry'. He always wanted to go away from the dull farming life and be in a more exciting line of job.

This is my first Role Play, so if it is lacking in details, let me know and I will fix it up. If you wish to suggest a race, you may. However, non of the "usual" aliens: tenticals, gray with huge eyes, etc. etc. tongue.gif.

This is obviously a nicely thought out rp and it is saddening to see it enjoy such little attention.

With this however I'll announce that I won't be applying for your rp simply because I'm just not good at this type of rp.

However, I'll try not to make this spam and give some pointers:

- No Character control: Basically this usually turns everything into chaos, usually forcing people to one line IC and although this is easy to read it gets annoying because the story will only slowly progress, definitely for the rper who can post but can't participate in long sessions of switching ICs between two rpers (believe me, I've seen this happen more than once. As per example in my first rp: The Tensasei) so this person would be lmited to making a shot IC for that one post he can make for that day for example and he'll come on the next day only to see the topic having progressed almost 5 pages by now, which can be dishearthening and won't allow him to develop his character well. This is why generally people allow slight CC, ofcourse how much is up to the DM to regulate. As another rper once told me: "A DM is there to provide the background for rpers and ensure that everything runs smoothly and stays fun.'

- You might want to add some NPCs if you've got something planned plot wise for the story yet (for example: important figures that head each of the races.) This not only gives rpers an example of what you expect from them app wise but also gives them more direction of what they could do with their characters and might inspire them. Also, a section titled Characters in which you have the character filled out that you are going to use would be nice as well. tongue.gif Unless of course you're only going to IC using NPCs.

---

Don't take it as offensive, just trying to give my thoughts so this post wasn't completely spam to try and give your topic more attention. :<

Meh.

The set up sounds nice, but I'd like some more information about the way this rp will go. Will the characters only stay on their ship, or will they also go down to planets to research stuff/kill things? Also, will you have a character yourself too? If I apply now, I'd be the only one. tongue.gif

Sure, I hope the following is what you were looking for. This is a little hard for me to explain. I tried to just start you guys off with a base, and from there the story would evolve. I have two "points" for this Role-Play, "Point A", which is where we all start, and "Point B", where this story ends. And one-two mid points: alien contact, and the discovery of their homeworld. The rest I figured would be somewhat up to you guys. For example, there will be contact with this six-race, but what your character does, is up to you. For example, if you see the alien ship(s), do you attack them, and try to board their ship? Simply blow them out of space? Or do you try to talk with them? If their homeworld is discovered (trying to be a little vague, or else the entire plot would be open for you guy, and where is the fun in that? tongue.gif), do you try to blow it up? Learn from them? Or what have you. For me, I will be controlling most NPC's. That said, it is not just going to be me running every NPC that is not your character. If you are a captain, for example, you are going to have to control some of the crewmen on your ship (giving orders, talking with, etc.). Otherwise it would be a little hard for you to write. Perhaps this will give you an idea (not trying to sound rude, it is just a little hard to explain tongue.gif).

Example IC (the kind I do not want): "Hay [NPC] hard to starboard..." OoC: Sorry, I cannot IC bigger then that because I would control the NPC.

Real Example IC (the kind that are usually allowed in this Role-Play): "Hay [NPC] hard to starboard." [NPC] "Hard to starboard, aye captain!" following the pilots' hardjerk on the wheel, the battleship slowly turned starboard </snip>. Captain William III held on for dear-life as the ship almost flipped over. "What the hell was that [NPC]?!" William shouted as he rounded on the pilot, once the ship settled. "I could have been killed!"</snip>.

Keep in mind, it is just an example, not how I expect your IC's to go.

My goal was to more or less not have an "iron-grip" on how exactly this role-play would happen. If I had wanted that, I would have published my novel (that I took the base of this from) and been done with it. I more or less supply the plot as we move along, how it pogresses is your choice.

For example, if your character ends up on their homeplanet face-to-face with the enemy, you have the choice to talk with it, or shoot it (if you are carrying a gun). I will not make that choice for your character, that will be up to you.

It always starts with one tongue.gif.

Why would it be offensive? I thank you for your help. I never did this before, so what you posted was very welcome smile.gif. If the writer allows it, I am not going to object. I just do not want to see one writer controlling five other writers characters because they felt the story was moving to slow and did not want to give the others a chance to write tongue.gif.

New Race Suggestion: Calatians

Spoiler: Click to Toggle the Spoiler.
Calatians have a mix of wisdom and courage. Standing between 5-6 feet tall, Calatians always assess a situation carefully before leaping into a battle. Every member of the race considers themselves sworn brothers and sisters, and betraying one another is considered an act of ultimate heresy. Though they are cautious about a fight, a Calatian captain will not hesitate to go head-on into a battle in which another is threatened. One of their weaknesses is the ability to save only a number of people depending on their chance of survival; this leads to many innocent casualties that the Calatians feel blamed for but feel that there was nothing they could have done about the death.

Calatians are known for their skill in close-combat fighting; a standard weapon for militants and commanders of a ship is a short-bladed scimitar. Recently, all military vessels were given rifles and guns to use for long-range fights.

Calatia is a relatively large planet, with many inhabitants. The surface is covered with snow-covered mountains, plains and some forests. Occasionally, there will be a drought or some floods, but most of the time, Calatia experiences sunny days, good crops and prosperity.

The political system of Calatia is a liberal-socialist kind of thing. Every 2 months, a new leader is elected by the Council, whom are in turn themselves put in place by the President. The President has full control of military operations, Internal Affairs and the Intel Agency. The Premier runs the day-to-day tasks (tax collection, security patrols, etc.), but is also given the power to evacuate the planet in an emergency.

If I might add something, I'd like to say that for me, one of the interesting things about this RP was the ongoing strife between five races on a planet when they are forced to work together to find out about and possibly fight the new arrivals. No, not that at all, I have had so much work to do, and not enough time to write an opening IC.

As you probably already know, I have yet to write an opening IC for a role play, I hope this lets you guys spring-board off of.

IC: Over the comlinks of the Malus fleet, a deep male voice boomed out over the intercoms of all Malus vessels.

"Soldiers of the Malus fleet." the voice began "Word has reached our King that there is a new threat to this world. Greater then any threat that the Malus raced has faced prior. While our King holds no doubts that we can defeat this enemy on our own, he has decided to share the lesser part of our glory with the other races of this world. To this end, he has decided that we shall lay down our hostility with the other races, as they toward us, and we will embark as one fleet to combat this new threat. As it is our right as Malus soldiers, we will be the first ones to seek out, and if need-be, distroy this new threat. We will form the vanguard against this new threat, that is our Kings order. Long live the King!"

"Soldiers of the Asyian fleet." a whispy voice reverberated inside the hulls of each of the Asyian ships. "Today a new threat has come to pass, and the citizens and soldiers of Asyian are once again under threat of death. This time thou, it is from a new source. It has been decided by the council that we will form a part of the fleet sent to look into this new threat. Gods willing, we will find ourselves a new ally... One more then those we remade this past month. It has been decided that we are too take the second place in this fleet, to that end, captains, bring your fleet around and take up positions behind the Malus fleet. We are to withold hostilities against the other races until this threat is explored further, and, Gods willing, beyond then. May the Gods bless our voyage." the comlines fell silent as each of the Asyians said a silent prayer, then came alive again with the sounds of orders from the many ships' captains.

"Mechaoracles," a voice began, putting as much ego as possible into each word "Today is a great day, for it is on this day that we are once again on a common path with the other races. It is the order of the council that we continue on this path, to this end, we are to join the fleet of the Malus and the Asyians and embark on a new path of exploration, and if need be, war, with the mysterious ships that have been detected. May peace and unity prevail on this mission."

"Altarians," a deep voice began "rejoice, for it is on this day that the destruction stops. By mutual agreement our King has joined with the other races, and has ended the war. Today we go forth on a new journey, to seek out this new race, whoever they may be, and work with our allies to discover their true intent. Captains, you have been ordered to bring your vessels behind the Mechaoracles ones, and provide assistance, and if need be, combat support to them. May this day bring new wonders to the Altarian race."

"Adonis," a voice began slowly on the radios of the Adonis fleet, "By mutual agreement... of those on the planet... we will join behind the fleet of the other races... and embark on this new journey, it is unknown what awaits us... but we will go fourth..."

Argyle looked around the bridge of his ship, trying to see what his crew was thinking as the voice died out. He saw nothing, not even surprise. Like any Malus, they only seemed eager to get underway, regardless of what they were heading into. For him, the message hardly came as a surprise. There had been rumours of a 'new threat' for weeks. He didn't know the details, nor did he care to know them. All he knew was that some smart scientists discovered some sort of signal or something emanating from space. According to them, it could only come from an intelligent species, and since they could possibly be violent, it had to be investigated. Even their age old racial differences were put aside for this mission. Officially, that is. Underneath all that, their biasses and prejudices were still strong.

The last words echoed throughout the ship. "We will form the vanguard." Of course we take the lead. No surprise there. The Malus like it that way and the other races were eager to let them do the dirty work. He stood up and addressed one of his officers. "Ensign, comm link, full ship." The ensign pressed a few buttons on his station, after which a yellow light started to flash. "Ready captain."

"Crew of Royal Class Destroyer The Hammer. This is your captain. As you all heard, we have a new purpose. We will seek out this new threat and do what's necessary to protect our race. For the glory of our race. For the glory of our king. For the glory of ourselves!"

Throughout the ship, cries of "Glory!" could be heard, as Argyle disconnected the comm link. "Set a course for deep space." He sat down in his chair and looked up to the screen displaying the endless space around them.

"Make it so."

OoC: Beam me up, Scotty. I am going to do a time-skip, if that is okay with you.

Yeah, sorry about that, was AFK for about two weeks. If you still want to continue, I have no problem with a time skip.
