Yay!

Darned one-word posts.

Hmm... So what does very soon mean?
It could mean next 2 months or even this week.

So Jagex is clearly do a number of things right. And it will be exciting to watch as the company's latest MMO tears up the internet later in 2009 (on which note, watch out for news on the forthcoming closed beta test for Jagex's 'codename Mechscape' right here on TechRadar very soon indeed).

Yeah. Soon, when used in the gaming community, just means that they're working on it, lol. Members of one Star Wars related MMO even started using the term SoonTM whenever they referred to the ETA of expected updates. laugh.gif

Okay take this with a grain of salt especially if they have no source from Jagex stating the game will launch soon.

Its just another tech site they know nothing more then anyone else.

They say they interviewed Mark Gerhard, but it doesn't say what information in the article actually came from him. You could be right...

Actually, it couldn't have been. It was put on that site 9 hours ago, according to the site itself. Probably less than an hour before I posted it on here.

Twitter FTW, lol.

Even then, after the closed beta there still will be a few months of tweaking. I believe end of 2009.

If you look at the way the RSOF is set up, it's not really surprising, though - it's bare minimum and if compared to something like these forums is clearly lacking quite a few features that'd be nice to have.

With the use of 'very', plus that MMG recently said that they have a rough idea about a release date, it sounds like a beta will appear within 1-3 months, then full release late '09-early 2010. Of course, nothing is set, but ye, random guessing is fun!

Most of the developers also seem to think the beta won't be released any later than October, so I think that random guess is pretty accurate.

There's also a rumor going around that it's coming out on July 20th, but there are no sources to confirm that. It's a good thing to hope for, but don't count on it.

The sooner they launch MechScape, the sooner they stop trying to "fix" things on RuneScape so frequently. As such, I am counting the seconds.

Think you could find the link for me? I would like to check it out myself. Right now it sounds kind of like that faked Mod Craddock post a couple months ago. Odds are there's absolutely no truth to it at all, to my knowledge Jagex hasn't done more than slightly lean toward a very broad time range.

Wrong. MechScape and RuneScape have completely different teams working on them. These teams do not overlap. Work on MechScape will not affect work on RuneScape in any way, other than bringing in more income for Jagex to spend.

I wish they'd just FINALLY give us the name the game will be. It's ridiculous. I've never heard of a company first claming for months that a game will be named MechScape, for example, and later on say it's just a codename. Then give us the damn name. Some really bad advertising they're doing.

Well, they claimed for months that it would be MechScape because that's what they were going to name it. It's the players that convinced Jagex that it was too similar to RuneScape, giving the wrong impression. It wasn't a codename until Jagex was convinced of that.

As far as advertising, they're not trying to advertise. They want the hype as low as possible until it's actually released, so it won't be like Summoning, with so much hype that expectations were much higher than Jagex could possibly deliver, causing a lot of disappointment and a quarter of the RuneScape players refusing to use it at all.

That said, if they do have a name decided, I would sure like to know what the heck the name is. It would be so much easier to change my site's domain name now and give it a couple months for Google to recognize it than trying to get it all done after MechScape is released.

In my honest opinion, they're just stalling. Betas are to TEST, at least release the beta for us to TEST it and REPORT BUGS.

I agree and feel with ya man, and I'd bet they changed their minds and remained the name MechScape, whenever it is a codename or not.

Anyway, I don't care about MechScape, I just don't see why everyone's hyped for this new MMORPG - it is simply going to be same as RuneScape, with different future things. slanty.gif

Wrong. Completely, totally, unbelievably wrong. Their motto throughout the whole creation process was "NOT RuneScape in space." This is a completely different game, more different than World of Warcraft is to RuneScape. Better graphics, different gameplay, different stories, different world (not planet, world. MechScape will likely be based over a whole solar system, galaxy, or even universe), there will even be four different playable species with completely different storylines, quests, etc. The whole reason that they changed their minds about actually naming it MechScape is because it will be nothing like RuneScape, and the whole Scape thing gives the wrong idea to people.

Meh, maybe I am. Ignorance and pessimism just get on my nerves, though. Oh, yeah, and hatred for the company who makes the game they spend five hours a day playing.

And soon, for most gaming companies, usually means they're working on it but they have absolutely no idea when they'll finish...or don't want to share that idea. Very soon, on the other hand, who knows? Jagex hasn't used that term yet, lol. I'm still thinking early October, hopefully earlier.

An MMO is an MMO-- you do quests, kill stuff, get items, level up, improve your character-- end of story-- some are just more than others-- atm, runescape is nothing but grind. I'll probably look at Mechscape, but it won't be enough to pull me away from WoW.

I have to say I agree with you to some extent. RuneScape has plenty of things to do besides grind, but a large percentage is grinding...too large, even though it is better than most MMO's. However, Jagex has specifically said that they have a completely unique leveling system that has never been used before that should eliminate grinding. That's really one of the features I'm most excited for.

There is no way to eliminate grind completely. But'll see what they do.
