Beret

Over, that's around $514 with tax and discounts.

What do you guys think. Comments?

Also, I already have the other required parts, I'm just upgrading my machine for the best tune-up of its life!

MAJOR thanks to Chris for, after long conversations, helped me set this up. Thanks man xd.gif
Chris
You forgot about the PCI Network Card, the only problem with the motherboard would be fixed with that. wink.gif

His other Case Option was the Centurion 5 but he chose the 690 instead for superior cooling and looking nicer.

Your processor is going to be holding you back, but then again I guess you could throw in a Phenom II x4 later when you need to.

And the mobo has onboard LAN.

He's aware of a $55 Discount for the Phenom II 955 and EVGA GTX260, Beret is a little cheap though. rolleyes.gif

The mobo has known issues with the onboard LAN where most buyers must buy something seperate.

Oh, not cool.

I'm actually really liking this build. The dual core for now and then a quad when upgrades are needed is great if you're on a budget. ohmy.gif

Props to whoever's idea that was.

Do you really need a GTX260?

Do you really need a GTX260?

Beret likes overkill and playing multiple games at once at high resolutions with dual monitors.

Will the CPU be able to keep up?
Chris
His favorite games are not overly Crazy so he might be fine, its up to Beret if he wants the Phenom II 550 or 940/955.

Choosing one of these will break some other combo's also, so $50 may actually be $30 saved but it wouldn't be all that much extra for more cores according to my tired 5:40am thinking but...

GTX260-216's are most likely plain overkill and, unless you're looking for some specific feature (like PhysX), very much too expensive. There are some other choices on CPU/board, but if this is an EoL upgrade, how long is it planned to keep? It's effectively a new PC entirely... only reusing hard drives and optical drives I assume.
Chris
He wants the X2 CPU because of the combo deal and in the end will pay less for parts.

The Radeon 4870 and Geforce GTX260 are pretty close together in performance, after the MIR's it will only be $35 more and he will get the two games with the card (he wants cod5) and with more video memory on the side. Beret and myself already talked about the exact same cards and he chose the GTX260 since i'm not forcing him to take certain parts. tongue.gif

I'v never heard much about Seasonic Power Supplies.

I'v never heard much about Seasonic Power Supplies.

If you've read anything about actual quality power supplies, Seasonic comes up. Often. Between OEMing for Antec, Corsair, and PC Power & Cooling, they're responsible for some of the highest quality and most popular enthusiast units. They do a lot of OEM work and not just for those three. There are literally boatloads of servers running off of Seasonic-built power supplies. Most notably, look at the still-incredibly-popular Corsair 650TX and their own lines of S-12 and M-12 units. The reviews are almost universally perfect. The new PC P&C Silencer 910W is a Seasonic unit, the Corsair 400CX, 450VX, 650TX, 520HX, and 620HX are all Seasonic units. The 550VX, 750TX, 850TX, 850HX, and 1000HX are all Channel Well. The first two on the list and the last one (550vx-750tx-1000hx) are good for normal desktop use though really aren't in the same performance category as the 650/850tx or the 520/620/750/850HX's. They provide good power but it's not as clean as it could be. Quite a few of the Antecs (especially higher end) are Seasonic as well.

That CPU/GPU combination is a major bottleneck.

I would recommend upgrading it to a Phenom II Quad Core.

No, not really.

Now then; I'd actually say swap to a Biostar motherboard.

You can unlock the additional cores with the modified BIOS for any of those seven motherboards.

And no, Emo_Nemo, that CPU/GPU combination isn't a major bottleneck.
Beret
Changed to a triple core so that means a new CPU combo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDet...st=Combo.207024

Depending on what you find more useful... I'm going to do a quick outline for a mini-ITX system. For me, a college student, something like this would be much more functional.
