I'll post up the older versions to i guess. But here for now, we have the 4th installment on the design. What are your opinions on this design? I've left out most of the header still, because it's the hardest part tongue.gif!

Personally I don't like the Armour on the top left and right, but I absolutely adore the rest of the design! Really well thought out Fatalysm, i've loved watching your progress on the designs. Good job biggrin.gif

I don't really like the armored knight, that's it. Other than that, everything else is fine. I like the parchment-styled layout, the design on the parchment, and the navy blue hardwood background. However, I still prefer either the second or third older version to the new one. Overall, the site design, in my opinion, should be easy to resize (dunno if you tested that out), as well as reasonably light on the total filesize of images used.

I'd also like to point out that there's a spelling error in the introduction. In the last line, you might want to change "any" to "and." biggrin.gif

Heck, I even love the armor! This is the best version so far in my opinion. Maybe change the color of the armor to black, white, or maybe blue...depends on how it looks...Sal's never did have red as one of it's colors. Red looks great, but a different color might look better and fit better with Sal's usual color scheme. Of course, the color scheme could change... Meh, whatever.

The only thing I can see that could be wrong with it is how easy it will be to manage. If the page ends up being shorter or longer, or if something on the left menu gets changed and the length of the menu has to change to accommodate it, how easy will it be to make those changes? If that's taken care of, then everything's great, and I can't really suggest anything important.

The armor was intentionally modified to look like dragon armour from runescape. Should i try and modify it to look different a different way? I think the red stands out to much, but it might become better once I've got the title into the design. This is something i'm hoping to develop more as the design goes on. There isn't much of an issue with the scroll. The pattern for the scroll can be repeated to make the page longer. It wouldn't be to difficult to sort this out.

I'm going to edit where the search bar is and add in forum functions suggested by Agent F, this will give a friendlier feeling when visiting the site and is just very neat in general. So that is that area sorted out for now tongue.gif! The castle walls don't really work there, i was hoing to cover it up anyway but we will have to see what happens. I'm also thinking about adding castle towers down the sides to enable the use of advertisements.

I love this web design; it's clean, attractive and looks easy to navigate. I look forward to seeing the finished design.

I believe that you forgot to add a link onto the page to link to the forum...

This certainly wasn't the case, I've simply changed the word forum to community. Thank-you for keeping me on my toes though! Although once it comes down to it all the links are for this design is a filler. I assume Salmoneus would take control of what links to have. Thank-you anyway, what did you think about the rest of the design?

You need to work on your typography.

I said I'd take a proper look at it so...

The vertical line between 'Website & Community News' and 'RuneScape Updates & News' isn't symmetrical.

I love the background for the 'new content' headings.

The font used for headings in the left column seems slightly too similar to the background and is a tad difficult to read.

The black gap above the 'Welcome back Fatalysm' bit seems like a waste of space that could disappear. The same from the cream line across the top.

The 'summary' description at the top seems pointless and could probably be put to better use - skin switchers / translated versions of the site... though that'd seem a bit too Zybez-ish, so possibly get rid of that line at the top and add those things to the row with the 'Search' box instead of the Forum Stats - most site users don't use the forum, so other things would be better suited to that prominent position on the page.
It'd also bring the 'News' further up the page and make it easier to see - currently it's 800px down the page (more than a screen on 1024x768), while having it at 300-400px down would be much easier to see even on 800x600.

If the design stretches to fill the screen (as it should), the armour wouldn't be visible. Adverts would slot into the 'General' / 'Guides' / 'Media' column. A 3rd column would be easy enough to add into this design if wanted.

Holy crap that looks awesome! Textures look great and I definately like the faded/muted red armor of the new version.

Only thing that bothers me in particular is the updates font color. It seems a little too light. The color of the headings works great, but the underbit/explaination parts could be darker?

By creating that header which says "Welcome back <username>... controls... blog.. messages" you require that Sal's embed the forums onto the main site. This will create a lot of work. I suggest you remove it.

And why don't we use this instead of Light-blue RS classic Sal's with Santa-hat?

Look's great! I'd use it. happy.gif

The knight, no.

You need to put Sals Realm of Runescape in the blank spot in between the two armors, then it's perfect.

You could change the armor to blue though. More Sal's color and of rune armor. Makes more sense

Up the top it should say "It's Sals Realm of Runescape, your one-stop etcetera" not "I's Realm of Runescape, your one-stop etcetera"

And even though you've done a fantastic job on the design it doesn't work for me slanty.gif, sorry but the old one has been there forever and I can't see it going tongue.gif.

I think it's meant to be scrolling, so it actually says Sal's Realm of Runescape *insert here* but since it's scrolling it says l's Realm. tongue.gif

Ooh, thanks bleh.gif. Scrolling seems like a pretty cool feature cool.gif.

Fatalysm, the latest design is looking good! I'm definitely liking the texture/background of the brown-colored strip (the one containing the search bar) - it's unique! biggrin.gif I also like the border around the news boxes, and I think the armor hanging on each side of the design looks very cool. An important point to note is that I'd like the page to fill the width of the screen (for the most part, anyways), and the armor may end up getting hidden behind the content area.

As for the scrolling text at the top - it somewhat seems redundant to have a description both at the top of the page, and at the top of the content area. Also, do we really want the first thing a person sees when they visit the site to be a scrolling marquee? tongue.gif

I know I said that I might be able to integrate the forum with the main site, but I can't guarantee it (certainly not for the initial release). With that said, if you want to include forum-related stuff in the design, you can, but just be aware that it might not be included in the final design.

Overall, another nice design, Fatalysm - I'm looking forward to seeing how it progresses! 2thumbs.gif

Marquees don't look very good in modern web design. You could use a Javascript alternative to make the scrolling go more smooth and controlled (eg stop the scrolling on mouse-over), but I think that'd be unnecessairy effort (plus you'd also have to make a quite long MySQL code to fetch the topic titles, because you probably don't want to edit the template every time there's a new news item.)

The design looks stunning, but making it functional is another thing. tongue.gif

THAT WOULD BE GREAT!

It needs to have more interrogation!

It's a nice design.

It just seems too medieval. Too typical of a medieval game.

I agree with you on the colors and the blank space, something should be filling it up. Although the colors could be adjustable if Fatalysm and others were up to it.

I like this layout alot! Good job!
Darth KJ
I think it could have some more Runescape images on the front like the current look.
It currently looks a bit too stereotypical as well.
Maybe add a background with some players from Sal in it thumbs.gif

Very nice! What does this development include(CSS, Buttons, Pictures, PHP, etc.)?
