Long story, but for my Runescape site, RuneHilt I need a forum for my site (not hosting any more). I need to get either Phpbb2
Phpbb3 or Simple Machines. What one?
Caboose
Have a look at this site.

It's a good round up of the most popular pieces of forum software available. Have a look and see which one you like, or which one will be best suited to your site.

I thought you hate phpbb 3 huh.gif
Spirit Shield
I hate being a member of it but if evreyone else likes it then I might as well install it. (its only smf phpbb2&3 because its a 1 click installation.)

Do not use phpBB2. It is outdated, unsupported, and has a number of vulnerabilities. I strongly suggest using phpBB 3 over version 2. What don't you like about it? You do know you can switch the profiles from the right to the left in the proSilver theme or opt for a different theme all together, right? That part seems to turn a lot of people away.

You have to use a hell of a lot of ftp and my uploading speed is really bad. thats why

PHPBB 3 is fine and easy to use.

PHPBB2 still requires uploading.

If you're all out on going for PHPBB3 (which is what I suggest out of the list you've put forth), I suggest InvisionFree, Zetaboards or ProBoards. Despite the negative comments on them by some members of Sal's, it's very decent, flexible and easy to use. Those are the free choices mind you, requiring no use of the FTP Server/Uploader.

If you want to use one that doesn't involve much uploading, has easy and hard versions of admin area, i recommend this

Example HERE

Or, THIS
Its a lot harder to set up, but the end result is much better.

Much better in what way; forum display and layout, base features, Admin Control Panel organization, security, availability of forum mods, support, permission masks (though this ties in with features), limitations of the free forum host, etc.? What makes freeforums.org better than ipbfree.com? The same question if you were comparing phpBB 3 and IPB 1.3 instead of the free forum hosts.

Edit: Grammatical error.

IPBFREE is better, more user-friendly to members, but takes ages to set up and is a LOT harder.
Freeforums is good for a beginner. (No CSS/board wrappers/macros to worry about. It shows a preview, and you click install)

You can't really generalize it being better and more user friendly because that's up to each individual to decide. I'd personally go with a phpBB based host just because I find that more user friendly and enjoyable to operate. That's only my opinion though, the same as yours is only yours.

You don't have access to ACP > Styles > Themes > {style}: Edit in FreeForums?
