What is the "Root of your forum's directory" and how do I get to it?
Ptolemy
1) Agent's Post.

2) FTP Client is probably the best.
Agent F
The root of the forum's directory is the parent directory that holds the other forum files and folders. If your forum is located at www.mydomain.com/forum/, the folder forum is your root directory.

Alright, but I am trying to install a skin and it says to upload a file into the forum's root directory. How do I do this?
Agent F
It depends on the forum software. Based on your other posts, I'll assume you're using phpBB 3. If you had a skin called proSilver (the Olympus default skin), it would be located here: http://www.mydomain.com/forum/styles/prosilver. With that, you'll just copy the forum skin folder to the styles folder. If it says to put them in the forum's root directory, it's a typo.

I am actually using MyBB.
And they say to upload the XML file, which I did. And then upload the one folder for the skin with a bunch of images and stuff into the forums main directory, which I am not sure how to do, should I follow that link, or will that not work with MyBB?

If it's like my PHPBB forum, open your ftp, go to your forum directory, open it, and upload your unpacked skin in the skins folder.

If you remember right back to desys domain we had a folder in ftp called "forums" that is where all the forum files are installed. If it was mk portal then the folder would is "mk-portal".

Upload the folder into the images directory. I believe that's what you do for MyBBoard.
