Okay im going to buy a new wireless adapter for my desktop. I was thinking of this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16833314027 but i was reading my compatablity for my linksys wrt54gx2 and it said it was compatible with b and g and the one im gettign is b but does that mean that i would only be transmitting 54mbs instead of 300. I just want to know if my speed will be faster than my current wireless adapter http://www.frys.com/product/4396325?site=s...CH:MAIN_RSLT_PG

The router you currently have is a b/g router. This means that the maximum possible speed you could get is 54mbps, using a wireless G adapter (the description of that router says it has technology to speed up wireless G - I don't understand what it is so I'm just assuming normal wireless G speeds). The adapter you wanted to get is wireless G, so you should get the best possible speed with it. However, I can't guarantee it will be faster than your current adapter - if your current one is also a wireless G adapter, you'll just get the same speeds (I know you linked to your current adapter but the link wouldn't work for me, sorry). Hope that helps?

Your speed is only as fast as the slowest component.

Assuming you have a G router then yes you'll still only get 54mbps
