To be honest i wasn't sure where to put this exactly; however, i was just looking through the list of contributors and it appears that some of the people on there where mods so i looked into this and found that after they contributed money to the site they became moderators a little latter now i'm sure that this isn't the case for all of the mods or people who contributed but isnt it a little unfair that they are given the role as mod for contributing money? i thought that to become a mod you had to earn it and not pay for it?

How do you know that they were promoted to moderator because they donated to the site? Don't make blind statements like this. People become moderators because they are the most helpful, honest, and friendly people on the forums. Not because they have some cash in their pocket that they use to buy themselves into the position.

Check the contribution date and the promotion date. Then tell me who paid before becoming a mod.

I see Hawk, Lilshu, and AnImp3HitMe. Hawk donated long before he got promoted, Lilshu donated after he became mod, and AnImp3HitMe has been retired since I joined. I don't see where you got this from.

Well, trust me, they didn't.

Obviously, I can't speak with 100% certainty. Maybe it's a closely guarded secret among the Elder Mods (*drums play ominously in the Deep*), and people used to get promoted because they donated cash to Sal to keep the website running. But I doubt it. During the last three promotion rounds I've participated in (not all of which resulted in actual promotions), nobody even brought up donations to the website. And a good thing, too, because bribes are not cool.

Plus, if they bought their way in, it obviously wouldn't be public. [/conspiracy]

You know, if Sal actually sold out that idea that contributing=promotions, I think we could be a much richer site!

In reality, their contributions to the forum are far greater than any monetary contribution.

Dragons donated a more than once and he's the opposite of a moderator. There's no corruption here, otherwise everybody on that list would be a moderator.

i know that most mods got their title from hard work and a lot of helping on this site but its just a little odd that some of the mods were people who donated to the site

It's even more odd how many helpful posts and guides they made.

And anyway, they're not mods because they paid. That's the farthest from the truth you could get. They're mods because they're helpful, and they probably donated to the forums because they're great, not because they wanted to be a mod.

No, it's perfectly logical. Isn't it kind of reasonable that a little fewer than 10% of site donors cared about the site so much that they were actually good, reasonable members who worked to make the forum a better place?

i know that they got it for their helpful guides but you have to admit its a little interesting that theres a link between mods and the contributors page.

I'm sorry if I made it sound worse than you meant. But it sounded for a second that you were questioning their contributions besides the money. If it was just a bit of fact that you thought didn't exactly have anything to do with anything, nor did it need discussion, why was it posted?
