I'm sorry that you feel that way. I really thought simplicity would be the best way to go.

It usually is, but this just looks... unworked on. It doesn't look finished at all, and I made things like the last one when I was 8 years old.

What?! It's a rectangle with text in the bottom right corner. Ugly text at that. That's not simplicity. You mention a lack of a light source, but how could there be a light source if it's just a colored rectangle. In 15 minutes I made gradient buttons for my games in Paint! I'm sure you could have at least put some effort into these.
Sorry to be so rough, but I've seen better images with more effort put into them from my 7 year old sister when she's messing around with paint.

It works best as one piece of art itself...truly amazing, imaginative, and thought-provoking.

ok...1/10 i did that when I was 6 no offence meant. You see my current sig? Its about as simple as they get. I found a divider brush that i liked in my brush set, messed with the size of it to fit the sig, then used the marque tool to select each divided section and i colored it 4 different colors, basic red, basic yello, basic blue, and basic green. I had some grunch brushes arround the sides to give it like a reflective light effect in the middle(brushes are below colors) and i set each color layer to vivid light or overlay i dont remember, i went through all the blending modes till i found one that fit just right. and added plain black text. Took me like 30 minutes cuz I wasnt sure what I wanted to do with it, and randomized it as i went...but only would of taking 5 minutes if i know what I was going to make in advance.
