I've got a very simple suggestion to present to you today. You know when you scroll down the screen while posting in a topic and you see the Imageshack uploader? Well what if we replaced Imageshack with another uploader such as "Tinypic"? I'll number the top few reason's I thought about this change.

1. Tinypic is about 2x faster for uploades for me.

2. When you upload it doesn't give the Thumbnail option. This eliminates the new members going, "Why are my pictures so tiny?"

3. It wouldn't be too hard to change. Unless there is some mutual agreement between Sal's and Imageshack.

4. Imageshack has been blurry lately. So I have been using Tinypic.

5. Both are free uploaders.

6. There are more sizes to resize your photo's.

Just a simple suggestion. Post what you think. This just seemed like a good idea to me.

Well - it isn't for many others.

Now we can't take charge of people's unwillingness to read and comprehend, can we?

If there's a similar 'widget' for Tinypic as there is for Imageshack, it wouldn't be too hard, true.

Iirc, it only messes with the picture if it is above 1.53MB, which at any rate is an image size screaming bloody murder - especially for Runescape pictures!

No real objections to points 5 and 6. However, frankly, I don't really see the point (nor do I use the Imageshack uploader anyway...but meh)

I'm using tinypic, its not bad but my pictures get deleted more... I'm not sure if the link was broken or they had to delete pictures to get more space, but sticking with Imageshack isn't that bad.

Instead of replacing Imageshack with Tinypic why don't we just add it in as well. It would give people a choice of uploaders rather than just one.

That's weird, I have uploaded images there almost two years ago and those still work.

Personally the images that are uploaded on imageshack take a lot longer to load than those of tinypic.

EDIT: Uploading an image of about 30kb:
tinypic: 3.40 seconds
imageshack: 7.66 seconds
tinypic is 2.25 times faster in this example.

EDIT2: To copy the code without links takes one click on tinypic and on imageshack you need to click it, copy it, past it and remove the link.

Roy you can get the image link without the links but, without the image tags. You just need to get the link from the box that is yellow and has direct link to image next to it. I have put a red box around it for those who are blind.

But at the same time it is for a lot of us.

Yeah you can. At least in a situation like this where you're trying to help these new members out.

I'm for the suggestion. I don't see much reason for it not to be implemented. I've always found Tinypic to be faster than Imageshack, anyway.
LightSlei
Just a question, how many users on Sal's use tinypic? How many use imageshack?

If the number of users prefer to use tinypic over imageshack then why are we supporting an image host that is less desirable to the majority?

I'm with Roy. The only time I've had my TinyPic pictures deleted is when I manually deleted them from my TP account.

Same here, my pictures i put on TinyPic probably a year ago are still there, i've only seen the "Image has been removed from TinyPic" twice in these forums.

I think TinyPic is more reliable and easier to use.

If one is faster and easier to use, wouldn't the point be that the uploader we're offering is much more cumbersome? If changing would be an improvement overall, even if only a small one, I think it's worth it.

You guys both have accounts right?
Magic Of Woodcut
I think that there should be loaders for huge images and smaller. If you have a huge image and use Imageshack your going to have to wait anyways, and Tinypic for smaller photos aka RuneScape size.

With photoshack you are required to register which is just unnecessary hassle whereas neither tinypic or imageshack require you to.

Thanks for the support on my suggestion all of you. Hopefully if enough people post and agree Sal/Neo will take a look too

The imageshack tool bar is available from imageshack and has a mod from invisionize, tinypic does not suppose a tool bar that I know of and has no mod because of a lack of a tool bar therefore switching to tinypic is a mistake, if you want to use tinypic then use it on your browser, otherwise, no.
Ph201
Not enough reason. Simply use tinypic for your pictures. It doesn't have to be implemented into the forum. Also I always just go directly to imageshack's website to upload my pictures anyways.

My computer disagrees with imageshack. I tested it with uploading like 60MB in images on flickr then on imageshack. It toke very little time on flickr and I wasn't timing this but a very long time for imageshack to get the same task done.

I'm sure tinyPic would work great for uploading images. I'll use that from now on. happy.gif

There is a very smple soltion to this rather than aruging over which is better why don't we have both Imageshack's and Tinypic's uploaders then people can choose to use which one they prefer.
Kuraudo Sutoraifu
honestly, i don't even notice the uploading function slanty.gif

i use tinypic personally as it's faster.

but i havent seen a tinypic upload bar anywhere... even on other forums. maybe thats why tinypic doesnt feature here? because it doesnt have a bar in the first place to put here.
Chaoss
Actually to add onto this, my ImageShack uploader hasn't worked for days, so it might be my computer, but i think it's broken somehow.

Maybe Neo would know something like that?

The reason behind only having an option to use Imageshack is the fact that Imageshack has a readily-available forum mod that can be used, while Tinypic and Photobucket do not. Unless a host offers a method to upload via an external site (ie. a toolbar or plugin), there's no way (that I can think of) to display an upload bar for that host on our site.

With that said, after some digging I learned that Tinypic does have an API which site/forum owners can use to offer uploads to Tinypic... I'll look into it. smile.gif

tinypic ftw it's faster to type and uploads perfect resolution pics

Furthermore if you want to have something that allows you to use tinypic whenever you want you should download this, that gives a tool bar on firfox, safari and IE.

http://tinypic.media-toolbar.com/ffinstallation/ -Firefox installation thing for the tool bar.

There is nto a mod on invisionize or invisionmodding that has a toolbar for tiny pic but here there is a tinypic tool bar for phpBB, I am not sure if sal can modify mods but I think that it is better for him to stay with imageshack and not change to tinypic in case something goes wrong,
