I created this topic to see what are your opinions in relation to this.
Which of these free antiviruses is the best?
Avira
Avast
AVG
Please give your opinions and the reason for it.

They all have about the same detection rates. I've always used AVG because it has a friendly interface and has the google search protection thing (that combined with mcafee site advisor makes it almost impossible to get a virus online).
My dad uses Avira and likes it. I never bothered with it. Avast! I've never tried, but I'd imagine it's like the others.

I use Avira and have been just about virus free since I got it (around 2 years ago?). I had AVG but it slowed down my computer a bit and a couple of viruses slipped past it. But all 3 of them are great.

Avira AntiVir for me, though I've used AVG in the past. I disliked Avast!, so that one in particular didn't last long. I don't really even need an antivirus, though I still run one to see various "patches" throw up unknown-virus warnings. Aah--the joys of software cracks!

I use AVG and Spy Bot. Both are free and easy to download. Also for the safe google search thing.
I've only ever used AVG out of them 3 so I'd have to go with that.

AVG is a huge resource hog when scanning compared to other anti-virus programs that I've used unless you slow down the scan rate (and then it takes forever to finish), but it has a good detection rate and it has the site scanner thing on searches, so I've stuck with that.

It's a good idea to cease using other applications when scanning for malicious content, so the resources are available for use anyway. Of the three, I tried AVG first and have been happy with it for years. No reason to try something else when what I have now is great for my needs. I disabled the search scanner because it was causing the searches to take longer. Not worth it IMO because I do a lot of Google searching.

About the resource thing, I guess it depends on your specs and what's running.
I never scan for viruses. Last time I scanned was almost a year ago with Malwarebytes. I monitor my system so closely, though, that I really don't worry about it.

When i used AVG i didnt enjoy it at all, it may be user friendly but i just find it to be inefficient in relation to scans etc.

I use AVG because the interface is easy to use, it has good detection rates and I've never had any problems with it. I tried Avast! but didn't like the interface and seemed to spend far too long hunting for the tools and functions I wanted. I've never used Avira, but others speak very highly of it.
As for which is the best, it depends what you mean by 'best'. They all have similar detection rates, I think the 'best' one is more a personal thing depending on which interface you prefer.

Yeah... after reading the posts i must say that the preference depends on a personal level.

Avast.
If this was a few months ago I'd say AVG, but AVG really got on my nerves, so I switched. Interface is alright, not too hard on my laptop. I assume it's working...

I'd choose Avast or AVG. They are about the same.
