We have redesigned the way autocasting combat spells works so that it no longer requires a magic staff. Now, you can set a spell to autocast via the redesigned Magic Spellbook interface. This change is designed to make autocasting spells easier and more intuitive.
A summary of the changes is as follows:
- Autocasting no longer requires a magic staff.
- Autocasting is now controlled via your spellbook. To set a spell to autocast, simply select the “Autocast” option from the spell icon in your spellbook.
- You can still single-cast spells by selecting the “Cast” option from the spell icon in the spellbook.
- In the standard spellbook, “Autocast” is now the default option (left-click) for combat spells, with “Cast” as the alternate option (right-click).
- In the Ancient Magicks spellbook, “Cast” remains the default option (left-click), with “Autocast” as the alternate option (right-click).
- As with before, there are no spells in the Lunar spellbook that can be set to autocast.
- You can still choose whether to receive Defence XP or not when autocasting spells via the new toggle button in the bottom-left corner of your spellbook.
- You can now also receive Defence XP for single-casting spells that deal damage, if you have this option toggled on.
- Four buttons have been added to the bottom of the Magic Spellbook interface that allow you to filter what spell icons are visible. Click on these buttons to toggle the visibility of combat, teleport, skill-based and miscellaneous spells.
- As staves are no longer required for autocasting, we have granted some of the more special ones the ability to cause 10% more magic damage. The following staves receive this bonus:
- Ahrim’s staff
- Master wand
- Void Knight mace
- Zuriel’s staff
- Corrupt Zuriel’s staff
- Ancient staff
- Finally, it is also now possible to autocast these spells:
- Saradomin Strike
- Flames of Zamorak
- Iban Blast

I always wanted a new fishing minigame. /sarcasm
I like the updates

It'll make it so much easier to do stuff that you don't want to use a staff in.

This looks like it is pretty good although while they were updating magic they should have made it so miasmic spells only half the attack speed of melee.

@ Egg: Why? They're not amoung the staves that make spells do 10% damage, so wouldn't they go down since they are no longer required to auto-cast spells?
Anyway, I don't get why they'd give us this update now, considering how the uprising of fail-casters is getting pretty bad, but it's still quite a cool update. Auto-casting God spells would probably be very helpful for certain things.

Wut? I thought they said there were taking action against failcasters but they just made it easier!

Now you don't need a staff, dropping the mage bonus even more in failcasting
Edit: Not that that really does anything anyway

I think a lot of ppl missing the point here... Yes you can autocast without staff however if u want to then attack with non-magic weapon you have to switch off autocast to do so therefore this shouldn't affect hybriding too much. That said failcasting is a little bit easier now...

I think all you have to do is select the attack mode on the weapon tab (when you're autocasting, all the buttons are grey; none of them are lit up), so it's not as hard to change from autocasting to melee attacking.

I really think stuff like the Ancient staff and Ahrim's staff should give a larger damage bonus, while 10% goes to the Mystic Battlestaffs. Full Void Mage should give a huge damage bonus.
That said, awesome update. As a person who loves magic I'm glad it's finally seeing some upgrades.

Particularly happy to be able to autocast God spells and Iban Blast.
I don't get why everybody hates failcasting. Quite frankly it seems like a good, if slow, method of training magic.
Tapping 5 with your toe to alch is still the best though.

Like this update, makes using magic a lot easier now.

Can't wait for the combat tiangle rebalance, next year.
