As of today, shops in RuneScape are now personalised for every player. The amount of stock you see in each shop is now unique to your account and, therefore, no longer affected by the actions of other players.
This has a number of advantages:
- Most importantly, it allows us to relax the price limits on the Grand Exchange. For somewhat complicated reasons, it means it is safe for us to drop the minimum price for many items, and raise the maximum price for some items. This means many items will no longer have their price set against an artificial limit, allowing prices to move more freely and better match player supply and demand. Similarly, many items that are popular for high-alching have had their lower limits relaxed to make the Grand Exchange work more smoothly.
- It means shops no longer have to offer unlimited stock to meet everyone's needs. Because each player sees their own stock, we can put in more realistic stock behaviour, where the stock (and price) goes up and down as you buy and sell, without worrying about one player buying out all the stock and depriving everyone else. Unlimited stock has weird effects on the economy of the game, and getting rid of it is vital for being able to relax the Grand Exchance price limits. Don’t worry, the stock is still very generous and should be plenty to supply ordinary play – particularly for items that you might need in greater numbers (e.g. arrows, runes and other consumables will be available in higher quantities than items like armour, tools and weapons).
- Shops may now be more worth selling your items to. A general store will never be full of other players’ unwanted items and specialist stores may offer better prices when they are low on stock. This means they are more useful for converting ‘junk’ items into cash, because each player has their own separate allowance for how much they can sell into the shop before the price drops.
With this personalising of shop stocks, we realised that it would negate some of the rewards earned from the Varrock and Karamja Achievement Diaries, so we’ve substituted them for other rewards.
The majority of Karamja diary’s easy reward is that you get better prices from Karamja’s shops. We couldn’t take this reward away without replacing it, so we have added Dell Monti, a pirate with a passion for pineapples, who will freely share his fruity bounty with you on a daily basis (if you are wearing your Karamja gloves).
Varrock diary’s smaller reward regarding shop prices is replaced with a greater possibility of obtaining skull sceptre parts from creatures in the Stronghold of Security, as well as doubling the charges it has if you make it while wearing your Varrock armour. Please note that the reward for buying battlestaves from Zaff while wearing Varrock armour has not been affected by this update in any way.

I've disliked unlimited stock from the first minute they put it in. I'm always wary of any update JaGEx adds that reduces the effects players' actions have on each other's games, though some have been to the good. This update has an effect like that too, but it's so much better than unlimited stock, I'm happy.

Unlimited stock shouldn't even be here anymore...I thought the update should've gotten rid of it. Quote please?
Edit: I might've misunderstood you I'd just like to see where this is

I was only recalling when they put unlimited stock in and how I didn't like it, not saying it was still in anywhere now, after this update.

Atleast they got rid of the horrible unlimited stocks, maybe Rune prices will rise again?
Honestly, I would like it if the stores went back to the way they were (with a set number of items that everyone could buy). Atleast then you had three ways of getting an item: wait around at the ship, buy it, or make it yourself. Those ways were better then now, in my view.

These new shops aren't that great. Hammers and Chisels are still at some crazy price (around 20 coins). Rune and arrows stocks are only around 200 or 300. Like someone said earlier, the best way was when the runes had a set amount that everyone could use.

That was also my first thought on this update.
Oh well, this is slightly like how it was back before they unlimited stock. I'm curious as to how this update will effect everything.

Oh noes how can I get goblin armor now

That means I have to go around killing goblins now

Other than that, sounds pretty good. It stops RWT so the general stores probably don't sell at GE price anymore

Personally, I dislike not having infinite stock, and I wish I could switch between private store and public store. What else is the use of a store?

Umm, well it is better than full stock shops but I don't see how it's gonna help economy, it will just make runes not grow, but I don't think they'll drop either. It also does not bring back the old way to make money, so it's like a simple update.
EDIT: After reading Pastas post I do think that it could stop the RWT, very good point of why they made this, cause I was confused why. Since RWTers could of sold something like GS to General Store and RWT buyer could of bought it for cheaper and sold it for higher and this update stops than.

Actually, they already solved this. General Store buys at around market price on GE, then sells for like 25% more.

But if it helps the economy then that's not a bad thing

Horrible update....
When items dont sell in GE (using pineapple pizzas in this case) I either put an offer in for pineapples go to warriors guild and buy a bunch of regular pizzas and put together my own pineapple pizzas, OR I put an offer in for pineapples and go to lumby chest and buy a pizza base and go through all that trouble of making a pizza, It wasn't delieghtful but it was progress.
NOW pineapple pizzas dont sell at all, the pizza stock in the warriors guild is only 10 and restocks 1 every 30 seconds, and the pizza base stock in lumby chest is 1 and restocks every 30 seconds, this is ridiculous, I burn 200-300 pineapple pizzas a day when I corp that is 2 hours work for the pizzas (+ any addition effort that may be involved) for 1-3 hours worth of corp killing. Theoretically that cuts the cash p/hr in half, no deal.

What exactly was the purpose of that post, 1chiknhed? All it was was a quote- you could at least have said, "I agree", or maybe "Aw, that must suck- I sympathize". Just constructive criticism

I actually have grown to like most of the Personalized Shops. I sold about 3k fire runes to the Tzhaar shop for about 17k tokkul! Of course, it makes it hell to buy any runes from the G.E. (and fire runes dropped to 5 ea yesterday and suddenly all sold for some odd reason), but I might at least suffer this update without moaning

Well, it's great news for newbs (I do not consider myself as one). They could 'buy' a free sample at a sword shop and sell it at a General Store for like 10 coins

In my opinion, 'Personalized Shops' wasn't made to 'help' the economy. It was designed to make it more realistic; do any shops you know have infinite stock on something? But I am a little disappointed because people used to sell useful stuff to the General Store, like Law or Cosmic Runes (I'm F2P).

I like the update, though they made the General Store even more useless now.

"One man's junk is the other man's treasure."
Now the only purpose it has is buying your junk.
Before the G.E. lots of people sold their goods in the General Store, I used to look in the Store everytime I went by and sometimes I found some useful items.
The nostalgia...
