Full Version: More Information About The Domain Name Stellar Dawn

Darth Irule
It seems that Stellar Dawn is the new name for Jagex's upcoming sci-fi MMO codenamed MechScape. Ever since I announced that Jagex had registered the trademark Stellar Dawn (here) there have been rumours that it might be the new name for MechScape. These died down a bit when Jagex made the domain forward to FunOrb.com, but flared again when Mod Korpz was reported to have said that it wasn't a FunOrb game (source).

The RuneScape client, which seems to be shared with MechScape, was recently updated for RuneTek 5. In old versions of the client when run in a specific manner it would state that "MechScape is loading" instead of "RuneScape is loading". However, it now states:

The trademarked logo of Stellar Dawn is (Source):

For an explanation for why Jagex were looking for an alternative name please read Mark Gerhard's public statement on the matter which also gives some background for why the game was originally called MechScape.

Note: The game itself is still inaccessible.

Yeah, I saw that earlier today. The problem is that it's not confirmed yet... Should I reserve a domain name related to that for my website or not?
Mohorak
Your last link is faulty.

It certainly sounds reasonably possible - stellardawn.com only turned into a 302 redirect to FunOrb after speculation about it being a potential FunOrb game started being taken seriously. It could also be Jagex playing with us, but it's the start of September rather than April. cute.png

Heh, I'll change the frequency and settings of various update checks to make it even more likely that I'm on the ball when something does finally happen. tongue.gif

I think that'd be a waste of money.

Also, I hope people are respectful enough not to register any domains that look like the domain names of other MechScape fansites. I hope we can have that much of a dignity.

Anyone else doesn't get this? "If run in a specific manner"? MS Paint fake right there.

Go through the thread and there's a link to another thread that explains how to do it (plus when Ren says something like this, I'm fairly willing take his word for it).

From Andrew's 'live' QA session on the subject of 'Mechscape'...

Robinhoodrs asks:
Most of us by now know about the up coming MMO by you guys codename "Mechscape", but
it seems you guys have gone with the name "Stellar Dawn", can you confrim this? Also any
new on the Beta?

Answer:
MechScape is indeed a codename, but I'm not sure if I'm allowed to confirm the real name yet, although I believe the name will be announced soon. Work is still ongoing, it's going to a be a while yet. Want to make it better!

No Ore Left asks:
I heard in order to advance in MechScape you have to "search and conquer and explore". Can you elaborate on that?

Answer:
I really can't talk about MechScape here sorry. I'm going to skip MechScape questions from now on. So If you asked one and I ignored it please don't be offended. Just can't talk about it.

That last answer was ignored... cute.png
Woiduser asks:
Q: 3) Do You think that Mechscape could ruin a bit of Runescape, as many players might switch to Mechscape from Runescape?

A: We are carefully designing it to be quite different, and are targetting a different audience to minimize the impact from this happening.

If anyone wants comfirmation and wants to know how to do the trick:

More stuff now. Here's a little trick. First download the RS Client. http://world1.runescape.com/runescape.jar

Then run this piece of java code
CODE
java -cp runescape.jar client

Then this will show up:
CODE
java -cp runescape.jar client
Bad argument count, Usage: worldid, <live/rc/wip>, <english/german>, <game0/game1>

Then run this
CODE
java -cp runescape.jar client 1 live english game1

A loading bar that looks exactly like RuneScape's loading bar will show up. In the past it used to say "MechScape is loading - please wait...", today it says "Stellar Dawn is loading - please wait..."

(fullscreen just for extra proof it works)

Credits to MechScape World for this.

We can't tell what it will called for sure yet as Jagex has not released info on the name but, all the evidence points to Stellar Dawn.

Which means all the 'Mech' sites will be obsolete. How depressing. Someone should make a 'MechDawn' site for both eventualities. Or 'StellarScape'. I think the last one sounds better.

Getting domain names for your fansite before the release was a gamble, and this was to be expected, and I'm sure every MechScape (or should I say Stellar Dawn) fansite admin knows that.

Whatever, I want a StellarScape site to pop up tomorrow. And believe me, I'm going to look.

EDIT: There already is one. I checked. Also, the guys on tip.it are talking about a "MechDawn" thing, but the domain name isn't taken, far as I could see.

Looks like MechStop has faith that it will be Stellar Dawn

He means you run it in the Command Prompt. Usually located in Start → All Programs → Accessories. You'll also have to navigate to the location you saved the client file to. Syntax: cd [location], where [location] is where you saved it as. If you're running Vista, and you saved it on your desktop (most likely scenario), you would go to C:\Users\[user]\Desktop, where [user] is the name of your computer account.
