I have played runescape for 7ish years now which is 7/17 of my life! Iv put way to many hours into runescape to quit now. I don't even plan on trying it. I know that if i do i might get addicted and take away time i could be playing runescape. I feel obligated to stick with runescape since i have put so much time into it.
Anyone else plan on not playing it?

From all the stuff I've heard about this game, it'll be awesome. I doubt I'll quit RuneScape entirely, but I probably won't play it as much. At least not once I get my quest cape, anyway. I don't know how much I'll play before that. It depends on a few different things. I've played for almost 3 years now, but I play games to have fun. I feel very little obligation to keep my RuneScape account moving.

I'll try it out, but it's way too early to judge if I'll play it. I don't understand why people are talking about this like you have to play one or the other. They're two completely different games; not just in name but in substance. Not trying it because of all the work you've put into Runescape, on the off chance that you might LIKE it too much, doesn't make any sense.

You're right, but many of us don't have time to seriously play two games. We'll probably all try the other game when we're bored of the one we play most of the time, but we don't have time to seriously play both games.

I don't have time to "seriously" play any game, because it seems to "seriously" play Runescape, here, means to treat it as a job. This Stellar Dawn (or whatever the hell it will be called) sounds like something I could just play when I felt like it and actually have fun. NOT something I would have to play constantly and grind my way to having a good character.

I like REAL sci-fi games, but not FANTASY sci-fi (which I think they said this is not going to be). So help me, if there's an 'energy sword' (or 'laser sword', or any other variation thereof) in the first hour of playing it, I'm never logging in MS again.

Yeah, a person's definition of 'seriously' can vary, but mine is to devote enough time towards it to advance fairly well, not just a level every week or two. I play an hour every day or two, and I'm a bit under my definition of serious. Perhaps that was the wrong word to use, but I think you get my point. Few people have enough time to split between two games and do remotely well in either of them.

Technically, an equivalent of the lightsaber already exists, the problem is getting the energy source into the handle. Oh, yeah, and making it useful. It's kinda hard to block a bullet or laser with a thing like that when the force doesn't exist. It's simply plasma controlled by a magnetic field into the shape of a blade. It's hot enough to cut through just about anything (the coolest forms of plasma are about 3,000 degrees centigrade) and it would repel other swords of the same type because of the magnetic field.
But I get your point. I like real sci-fi better than fantasy as well. I enjoy fantasy too, and I enjoy it much more than medieval games, but real sci-fi is still better yet.

You need enough time to "devote" towards it to advance enough, and you consider it impossible to play two at the same time and do well in both. You should be able to play two games at the same time, unless it is a job for one. I'm not saying yours is a job, I'm just saying how you describe it would be a job.

You're forgetting how to contain it- how to make sure that it only extends out from the handle so far and never varies. But this isn't a discussion about science, so....

Yeah, I'd rather have a game with a basis like Stargate than a game like MechaQuest *retches*. I'd actually not mind the energy sword thing if they gave it an original name, used it logically, and didn't use it for half the weapons (like MechaQuest).

I'll definitely give it a good go, it seems like it could be more fun than Runescape in that you progress by trying out a number of things, and not by grinding away at one area of the Game. I can't really say if i'll stay or not until I've played it, can I!
