Hey hey hey, 50 Cent's first album was pretty good. Soulja is just a good entertainer, not rapper. The man can dance and make a song to it, which I respect him for that. As for rapping, no, he is not a rapper.

Because he sucks, how about naming off some you find to be "talented" then?

For starters, the top undisputed 5 (no order): Nas, Jay-Z, Biggie Smalls, Big L, Eminem

As for guys who are really good: Mobb Deep, MF Doom, Army Of The Pharohs, Wu-Tang Clan, Lil Wayne before autotune (Suffix-Drought 3 basically), Aesop Rock, Curren$y, Fabolous, Juelz Santana, Hell Rell, Jadakiss, Rakim, Kool G Rap, Outkast, CL Smooth, AZ, & Gangstarr.

I bet you're one of those guys who listen to Immortal Technique because of his "deep and meaningful" lyrics. Guess what, he's good but dude is nothing but awkward flow and shock value lyrics.

Saying Biggie Smalls sucks shows how little you know about rap. Biggie was the master of flow and was great because he appealed to commercial audiences as well as people who appreciate rap. His subject matter was somewhat one-dimensional but 99% of other rapper's material are fabricated tales anyway. He's one of the few rappers with a certified classic album (Ready To Die) and people still talk about his music even today. Biggie was a complete rapper, he had punchlines, flow, metaphors, subject matter, and he could still make a radio hit. It's qualities like those that get his name mentioned in debates over the best rapper of all time.

Yeaaaa- no... Biggie's lyrics were dull and boring. Nothing worth listening to sleep.gif
I guess I can agree with your top-5 (minus Biggie and Big L).
When I listen to rap, I want to hear wordplay. I want to hear a metaphor that makes me think twice about the line. I want here something that can go 'silly' and serious at the same time; And only about half of the people on that list can do that, sadly...

50 cent or Wayne don't even come close to being my worst rappers, Soulja Boy isn't my favorite either, and yes they do talk a lot of shizzle but for all their downfalls they do one thing a lot of rappers don't do these days and that's move a crowd, and people respond to this by buying their albums.

People these days when it comes to music feel people who aren't afraid to show who they are, they respect honesty. To the artist who steps up to the microphone as self proclaimed preacher and rap saint and spits his tales of hardship, talks about social ills and his trials and lessons of life is only kidding himself within his delusion, no ones that selfless, and they know within themselves that their interior motive is solely to make money from suckers they can convince that they care and buy their albums, no one gives a rats ass about the world these days or the lyrics no one ever has, it's all about what you can gain, it's all about the money.

That's why i like 50 cent, he came into the business just being himself, talking himself up, talking about how he loves his money, he needs his money, his money makes him happy and the endless hours of sex he gets on the hour from countless women is enjoyable, hes not lying hes not being an goosedown or talking shizzle the mans simply being honest and i respect that, and I've yet to see one thing so far from him, and that's not back up his bullshizzle. The same goes for Eminem who also never backs down from a fight or his words, two artists above all i admire for their steel balls.

Worst rapper imo for me was biggie smalls, i never really felt his music, he was a fat slob who always seemed to talk about drugs and "all these hoes" he was apparently "macking", despite being a supersized mc'xxxxl version of an already oversized ruben studdard. The only songs of his i felt we're the ones that feature diddy, otherwise he was as crap as the words that left his mouth.

Most popular artists have made a song explicitly about sex, and a lot of these are well-respected and acclaimed. Mick Jagger wrote a hit single called Brown Sugar that expresses his lust for black women, but no one direspects him as a musician for the countless number of dirty songs he's written. The same goes for Jay-Z. You can hate him if you wish for his dirty lyrical cliches, but you can't deny his talent as an MC. He's really good at rapping, and that's all that really matters.

There's a line between "sexually explicit" and "ridiculously ridiculous" and that pretty neatly crosses it bleh.gif

Mabey 90% of the ones you listen to. I could say the same thing for any genre (Rock puts nonsenical words over some instruments?). There are some rappers out there that never even should of thought about picking up a mic; But, there's alot of rappers who's lyrics have roots and meaning. First learn about the rapper's past, then integrate it with his lyrics.

Eminem would be a prime example. Sure he makes some crazy songs, but then again, he made songs that were deep and compelling. Kinda sick of people who find rap to be about money and hoes sleep.gif

Putting your own personal vendettas towards rap in general into your comment only makes you look silly, and lets no one expect further from you than more garbage.

It's the same thing, except that a lot of rappers say it bluntly instead of speaking figuratively. I have not seen the respected artists of rock'n'roll slammed because they sing dirty sex songs. Jay-Z won't sound so dirty once you pay attention to AC/DC lyrics (try any of their songs with "balls" in the title).

Yeah, you never hear about good rap. And it does exist. I have found a few good ones on myspace and Garageband.

Probably, as far as Garageband goes, the reason is that those guys aren't making $385982655683925628956392/second.

I agree with you 100%. The best music one can ever find will be that which is in the underground and outside of the mainstream. I simply hate all music that merely celebrates an inauthentic lifestyle of conspicuous consumption and rampant materialism. And Rap seems to do this more than any other genre sadly. Regardless, my record collection is no stranger to Rap and Hip Hop.

Some rappers hit mainstream, for the money. Mainstream has access to the best beats. That's the key difference between mainstream and underground. Mainstream is owned by producers, who make all the beats you hear. Underground is someone who got a beat put together and puts his heart out. One thing I recommend is getting an album with a real famous mainstream song on it, and just listen to the other songs on that album. You will see a difference.

Ya, I can dig it. The lyrics in the rap and hip-hop I listen to are more complex (both syntactically and semantically) than those from most other genres.
Especially the likes of Doseone in Subtle or Busdriver.

Honestly Mike Shinodas Rapping was alot better then Jay Z's on that album Jay Z had alot of akward pauses and messed up his flow every once in a while.
