This will (kinda) help with minimap fakes.
And this will (kinda) help with world map fakes.

Just like all the thousands of other articles on the Wikia that help with faking.

Yeah, it's sort of common knowledge that, thanks to RuneWiki's staff who love PNG's, cropping, and 100% graphical accuracy, it can be considered an unassembled fake kit tongue.gif
But it does not at all target the problem at hand: It's very difficult to actually create things with our new minimap sad.gif
I'll try working on a guide for that, but it may take a month - I'll be very inactive for a while. The only reason I got on now is to download some resources for my AP Computer Science class pfft.gif. I think I'll be dropping AP US History (the homework and course load actually seems more than AP Euro was sad.gif), so that will free up some time, but there's some issues going on irl, so I still won't be too active in the coming month sad.gif
However, I did figure out the solution to how to fake minimaps, but throwing it all into an explanation that other people can understand will still take me a while pfft.gif. Also, my method/soon-to-be-guide won't work in MS Paint alone sad.gif
First I'll be releasing a "test fake" to see how accurate you guys consider it, so I may have to modify my method before I can actually make the guide pfft.gif

The RuneScape Wiki is awesome, except some people just can't not save stuff as .JPG. Look at the World Map they have--.JPEGy goodness.

I've noticed that the minimap shows the textures where the shadows or objects are placed. So a little shading or burn tool at those places on a normal minimap might help get that new feel.

Good luck on the kit Wolfie. happy.gif

Btw, he didn't use his in the post. tongue.gif

That's because Jagex's map download is only available in Jpef.

Jagex only allows us to use a .JPEG map? What?!?

Erm... He's referring to the downloadable copy. It would take forever to reconstruct the entire map at 100% (or rather, 200% blink.gif) just by taking screenshots of it and patching them together. I was planning on doing that, but I barely got done with the northwest isles and Fremmenik region after hours of incredible lag. The amount of graphical data needed for a 100% full quality map at 200% zoom is usually too much for most computers' RAM to handle, let alone to be feasible to attempt to upload or download through most connections pfft.gif
I have all the shots needed (and that took hours too), but it takes up several gigabytes. I can see why Jagex opted to do their download at 37% as a JPEG, even though making the download available is, for them, a simple process of writing some code (as opposed to taking about 5000 screenshots and cropping and overlapping their parts perfectly ohmy.gif)

Oh. Well, why'd they take out the world map they had available from the front page? Because of the lag and download times?

That was at the same time that they added the world map icon in-game. It wasn't a PNG, it was another Java file, and their map is constructed, apparently, as primarily vector-based (which is why they were able to add 200% zoom with little hassle), so it doesn't take nearly as much room as a PNG version would. I think the main reason they removed it was because it took longer to load a separate Java applet outside RuneScape, and the two applets (one for RS, one for the world map) could cause major lag when running on slower computers. But, since it was never really a download, putting it in-game doesn't really affect server lag, it only reduces lag on our computers. Although, I wish they would also have kept the old/separate applet, letting you see the full-quality world map without having to log in, as well as the in-game copy ohmy.gif
